FAQs about hotels in Catania

The Perfect Combination of Ancient and Modern

On Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.

On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. The Elephant Fountain is the city’s symbol and the entrance to the main shopping area. Surrounded by stunning Baroque buildings, Piazza del Duomo is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.

Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

Catania is easily accessible with Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, served by numerous European destinations like Munich, Rome and London. You can stay in one of the Catania hotels, guesthouses or hostels with Booking.com.

Catania history center was quite shocking.

Catania history center was quite shocking. Dirty, garbage on the streets, nobody cleans after the dogs, abandoned buildings, impressive old palaces uncured, decaying, facades ruined... However, the easygoing way gets under your skin in just a day or two. Lot of small eateries and bars where you can enjoy your food, coffee or drink and kind citizens, always ready to answer any question a tourist could have, beat the flaws. Palaces and city structure with long wide streets show the splendour this city had in the past. Pitty it doesn't apply for the present. It has so much potantial, and not only for tourism.

We stayed here twice: before and after a week of sailing. Hotel has easy, 20 min access to the AirPort, 10 min by taxi to plazza del d’uomo. It has a pool, is clean, has working AC, very good and varous breafast, staff speaks english! All the above is not obvious in Sycylia, and in Catania center. The hotel itself is great - nice room, helpful staff, good food in the restaurant, nice gardens and pool. The area around the hotel is not very appealing. But we chose it because we had an early flight the next day, it's very convenient for the airport. We were also able to get a bus into Catania from just outside the hotel. This was a better option for the evening than staying in the local area.

This is the strangest hotel I have ever stayed in regarding the location. It is surrounded by the rental car parking lots at Catania airport and some crumbling remains of old houses. Still, it is a 2 minute walk to the airport and made dropping our car very easy. The young man at check in was very nice, but it was confusing to find "where" to check in and it is not indicated very well...
