The local pool was lovely - we went in the evening, so it was dark (I really like this).
There was a local cafe/bar that served some great value meals - the lamb chops were sublime.
There is a lovely friendly vibe in Borganes, and I would highly recommend putting it on your trip.

It is a bit run down but it is quiet and the beds are comfortable. Like most of Iceland in our experience, the pillows could be better. Hot pot, coffee, tea, cream and sugar are provided, which was nice. There is free parking, however I can imagine at times it may be hard to find a spot as the lot supports the restaurant as well. We had dinner at the restaurant, food was good and the portion was large.
In a nutshell, this is a decent budget accommodation, with a restaurant on site which makes it convenient. If you plan to eat at the restaurant, make a reservation before 5pm. They were able to squeezed us in without one but there were many who were not as lucky.

Borgarnes is underrated as it doesn't have any bucket-list sights. It's a mid-size small town by Iceland standards, but it's got a lot to recommend it - it's a very typical Icelandic place, and one with a variety of landscapes and bay views.
The Settlement Museum is overpriced (as most Icelandic museums are), but even without a visit there, Borgarnes is a good place for walking. It also has some decent to excellent eateries (the Bara bar and restaurant in the heart of the town is outstanding, and even the N1 station cooks up some of Iceland's best meat soup.)

Beautiful views. Lots to do and see.
Beautiful views. Lots to do and see. An area with a lot of history. A good for both people who like to do independent activities and people who prefer guided tours. It is the place of viking settlements and the sagas. There is a Settlement museum to learn about it. Waterfalls and a la a tube cave you can take a tour of.

We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel. Car parking was free. There was a pathed route to walk around the coast. We had coffee and lunch at a wonderful place called Blómasetríð - Kaffi Kyrrð. We sat outside in a beautiful courtyard/garden. The food was excellent and the staff were polite and kind.

Drove by car from Keflavik at 10 AM - visited Akranes lighthouse and nice museum - had great vegetarian buffet lunch in Borgarness - at a vikkingmuseum.
Drove to our hotel and then to the KRAUMA spa and we had dinner there.
Next day we drove to the waterfalls Barnafoss, then to visit the lavagrotto and took over the highland on the road 550 back towards Reykjavik. Great tour!
This small-ish boutique hotel is a typical hotel and local pub in one stop. The rooms were spacious, and bathrooms lovely. The spa experience with hot tub, steam and sauna were as expected. The gym was an incredible bonus with weights, cardio machines and mats for yoga or calisthenics. Breakfast was exceptional and for a single person traveling alone, the bar area with food and drinks was perfect. Friday night DJ played a mix of dance and Christmas songs to set them mood. Location was excellent for a walking tour of this delightful city.
We chose this hotel because of its location, which was close enough to Reykjavik to begin our touring of the surrounding countryside, fjords, Snaefellsnes Peninsula, etc. Upon our arrival to the hotel, the building was not at all appealing from the outside. It looked like a very basic motel, and clearly was catering to the golfers on the site, wheeling their golf equipment through the parking area directly along the building entrance. Inside, the rooms were adequate and pleasant as was the buffet breakfast.
The property was off the beaten path with a charming room. The host welcomed us with champagne, shrimp and cavier. The bed was very comfortable and the facilities were modern and updated. There is also a hot tub to enjoy and breakfast in the morning with a wonderful view. The breakfast was better than any restaurant we’ve been to here. By FAR one of the nicest ladies we’ve met in Iceland; she was welcoming, informative and gracious. This place does not disappoint.
Beautiful Hotel / Hostel! The staff is so awesome and friendly and welcoming; I cannot express that enough! Especially as a solo traveler a lot of times you're not sure what to expect next. Breakfast was soooo good; I loved it! It wasn't really what I was expecting, definitely more of a luxury hotel type experience, but hey - it was awesome! AND it's one of THE cheapest hostels in Iceland. (I know bc I checked the entire island lol.)
Fjola and Jon were outstanding hosts. Our apartment on their farm was a haven for our stay near Borgarnes. Views of the surrounding fields were great, and such a nice change from city hotels. The apartment had everything we needed, including a filter coffee maker. The weather turned overnight, and roads were closed the next morning. Fjola kindly informed us of this and offered that we could stay longer, which was very generous.
Very good value - we had a 22h layover in Iceland, and we were able to rent a car and whole trailer cottage for cheaper than staying at a hotel closer to airport. It was an easy drive with nice views. Great place to sleep before next days flight - we also drove a little more to look at views in the evening. Cozy and functional, with a view to mountain tops.
We booked this location on the road because our travel plans changed. The bungalo was awesome. We didn't expect such an adorable stay. The bed was comfortable and our place was away from the main hotel which we loved. The view was fantastic of the moutains and the bay. The kitchenette was put to use for a home cook meal.
The hotel is very nicely located. The rooms face either the hill or the ocean. There is free parking available.
The room was spacious, clean and warm. The bed and pillows were comfortable.
There is sauna available. Supermarket and restaurants are a few min drive away from the hotel.
Good value for the money!
Our stay in Borgarnes was excellent. The hotel is modern and clean. The room was very spacious and the beds were so comfy! The breakfast the next morning was very good. There is a bar and a few eating options downstairs during the evenings. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would stay here again.
This hotel was overall fantastic. The staff was very friendly. The room was big, with amazing views and big windows. The hotel also has a hot tub which is included. We had the chance to hike to a waterfall 15 minutes away from the hotel which was an amazing experience. Would definitely stay here again!
The guesthouse is impeccably clean and has an amazing view. Mila is a wonderful host. She made us feel so welcome and made delicious breakfast for everyone. Would highly recommend for those looking for a “homestay” experience. It was the perfect way to start off our Icelandic adventure!
This cabin was my favorite out of all of the places we stayed on our 10 day trip to Iceland. It was very comfortable and extremely well equipped. I wish we would have stayed here for several nights. Everything is new!
The room had a good size and was clean and had good blackout curtains. Bed confortable. Parking options right between the two hotel buildings and in general a very good location in Borgarnes.
Very helpfull staff. The hostelroom is located in a fancy hotel. Very beautiful interior. For that price... Best price-quality I booked in all Iceland. Good beds, nice food at the restaurant.
Hotel was in center of town and had easy access to the museum close by. Hotel had a great view of the fiord just to the south. Breakfast was very good with many different options.
Really friendly host in a beautiful location. Borgarnes is a great base to get out and discover this part of Iceland. The accommodation is a real home from home place to stay.
