varanasi can be any place anyone wants to be - boatrides, walks inte narrow streets, maze and confusion, good food and even boat rides along the river at sunrise (expensive)
one of the oldest habited places on earth it is a fascinating mix of culture and religion
wishing that the place was cleaner and the crowds a little less
the history and the reputation and the current realities are totally asynchronous

There is an abundance to see in the old and new parts of the city. Also great bargaining prices from sarees to real jewelry to puja items. This was our second trip and right before leaving we got struck with the stomach bug, even with being careful with handwashing/sanitizing. We went during festival time, so perhaps the crowds of people may have resulted in this.
If you think your budget won't allow you a tour, please research. There are tours for every price range. Aarti ceremony is definitely not to be missed.
Also, if travelling with kids, please we aware motorcycles/bicycles like to zoom through the narrow alleys regardless if there are people walking. It takes a bit of maneuvering, but you will get the hang of it.

One of the most amazing places I've been (and I've traveled around a lot)! Varanasi is extremely filthy - wear shoes - but in an ironic way it adds to the feel. The poverty is difficult to see, but it's India. To be fair, I didn't travel extensively in India, but nonetheless, it seems like if there's only one place to go in India, it should be Varanasi.

Stayed very close to Dasashwamedh Ghat made it very easy to watch Ganga Arathi.
For dip in Ganga, best way is to take the boat, and head to the east bank. Less crowded, shallow patch. Water is generally clean.
Enter through Gate 1 of Kashi corridor and there are restaurants, clean toilets, place to sit and relax.
If you have a pre-booked darshan ticket, head to Gate 4(as of Dec 2023).
Avoid taking smart watches. Lockers in the temple complex do not accept them.

Great spiritual and historic holy city.
It is sad that we Bharatia s have ignored it's past glory and importance.
Hope the city will be reviewed to it's true glory.
Lot of work is pending to be completed.
I have stayed at dozen of hotels all over India but this was on the top of the list of best stays ever. Staff was very hospitable and there for every need of mine. Thank you so much. And now this would definitely be the place I would stay every time I would travel to Varanasi.
If you're a solo backpacker who would want to enjoy Varanasi then I would definitely recommend you to stay here.
Nice hotel in excellent situation. Room was also very nice. But the best of all were the hotel guys, very friendly and helpful - they nearly bent over backwards to help me organizing my stay at Varanasi.
The only drawback was that the room was infested by moskitoes - so bring a big bottle of insect repellent if you are going to stay there!
I am come in India first time to exposed Varanasi. This place is so awesome, either i had booked fabhotel siddhi , the hotel is so good and very budget hotel at Varanasi, the rooms is good and location is so quit and awesome. So I enjoyed the stay this place. The staff is good . Either when I order the Indian food is delicious and spicy.
Amazing Place, Amazing people and amazing food. Mr. & Mrs. Kapur depict the Indian hospitality to its core, with their warm welcome and their warmest smiles. My mother and I felt at home, Mrs. Kapur even packed us breakfast for a 6am check out (no hotel does that). Beautiful and peaceful home, do stay at Aashray when in Varanasi
We had an amazing time, one of the best places to stay in Varanasi for sure. The staff is so nice, the rooms are very clean and we even got a birthday cake because it was my husband's birthday.

Great location, easy to reach the Ghats from the hotel, even though the alley thing is a bit weird at first, the staff was very nice and helpful, massive room, clean and well equipped, proximity of small shops around, relatively quiet (by Indian standards).
Lovely and amazing hotel. I have been to Varanasi with family. Hotel is the good location and suitable for family member. I booked the hotel on booking.com and got best of the price. Room was big and quality of food was good with reasonable price
This hotel offers exceptional location if you're planning to attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony. The staff is amazing and fluent in English, making communication effortless. The rooms are pleasant and well-maintained. Cleanest we saw in India.
