Pécs is a lovely place in Hungary with an expansive cultural heritage. The Cathedral, Széchenyi square and Zsolnay quarter are just a few of the must see spots. You can have very good food and wine (or beer) in Király street.
If you're feeling adventurous, Mecsek has the most amazing trails But even if you don't have whole day for hiking just make sure to visit Tettye and walk up to the observatory there.
Pécs is doable by foot most of the times, but has very accessible bus service as well. You can buy tickets on the bus with cash (forint).
Make sure to check the actual events (and book in advance) to experience the street market vibes, when all the best wineries of Hungary and traditional food stalls represent themselves.
See you in Pécs!

Pecs is a terrific little picturesque town with heaps of interesting churches, a mosque, a synagogue, museums and ancient burial sites. Most things are very close by. On Sunday everything is closed except cafes and it's like a ghost town which is good for avoiding hordes of tourists. Pecs is neat as a pin and would probably win a tidy town contest. There's plenty of food places and our favorite was the Korheli pub. I'm glad we chose to stop here for a couple of nights.

Not a crowded city, plenty of things to see. Older waiters and cashiers don't really speak foreign languages, even basic stuff was hard to convey to them, so have that in mind. Younger ones are more fluent in that department.

Many of the sights -- the Csontvary Museum, the Cathedral, in particular, are within easy walking distance of the Fonix hotel, where I stayed. The city is the home of a university, so the streets were filled with students and other young people. My trip was a Wednesday day trip by train from Budapest, so other than the main sights and the fact that the performance in the theatre was a one-man show in Hungarian, which I do not speak, I regret not having planned another, full day. The next time I visit Hungary, I'll spend a couple of days in Pécs; for what I saw whetted my appetite for more.

Roman ruins all over Pecs, St. Istvan tee with beautiful cathedral. Underground Roman ruins.

Lively nightlife , very vibrant, very clean city.
This hotel is up the hill. 20 mins away to and fro the center on foot, however bear in mind that steep return may be strenuous for some people. On site restaurant is very good, you can park on site. Rooms are comfortable and breakfast is very good and hearty. Check to see that the location is convenient for you purposes while in Pecs, else this hotel is a clear ten. Our room had a small balcony with nice view of Pecs in the distance. If in Pecs again we would definitively stay there.
It has been a great experience. The truth is that the hostel is a classic. old building, spacious and being in it is an original experience. everything is very well organized and safe.

The hotel is located in front of the Northern wall of Pécs and close to the Kalvaria chapel. The area seems quiet and you get to the old town in 10 minutes by walk. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the rooms were nice and had good views of the old town.
Charming- Traditional woodwork and linens were used in the decorating. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Beautiful view from the restaurant. The restaurant was excellent and not too expensive. The hotel is dog friendly (but an extra charge).
