The monasteries are lovely but the public transport (bus) to move around them is limited if you only want to visit one or two. Our time was limited so we took the 9am bus up to the main meteron monastery and walked down to Varlaam and Rossenou (St Barbara) convent. We were finished here by 12 but had to walk back to Kalambaka as there was no bus until 14:30 and we had a bus to catch for our onward journey. We walked down to Kastraki and had a quick bite and walked on to Kalambaka. It was an easy walk and took about 40 mins but this was in April so not too hot.

Kalabaka is a city with traditional houses and Meteora is very close. You can visit some of the monasteries. We went to the museum of physical history with animals and birds that lived there, which was very nice, to the mushroom museum and to the digital projection center of Meteora's history and culture. The food also was excellent.

The monasteries of Meteora are place of spiritual renewal.
The monasteries of Meteora are place of spiritual renewal. The Byzantine art and the historic architecture elevate the soul. I was fortunate enough to half ten minutes alone in the chapels of both the Varlaam and Holy Trinity monasteries in between the flow of tourists and found it to be peaceful and prayerful. The natural scenery of the area, including the sunsets, has no equal anywhere I have been, and watching the sun change the colors of the rocks and the monastery buildings as it set in the west was truly amazing. Kalabaka is a bit built up and a mile or two further away from the rocks. Stay in Kastraki for a really Greek village experience.

Kalambaka is an interesting small town with many restaurants, gift shops, souvenirs shops. But the main attractions are the mountaintop monasteries from the 14-15th century that seem to float as you look up.
Taking a tour is very helpful because you get the history of the area and the monasteries, and you do not have to concentrate on driving.
Don’t forget to visit the Natural History Museum and the Mushroom Museum housed together. We have such respect for mushrooms now!
The hospitality and comfort of this hotel was incredible! Anna Maria and her son welcome you like a member of their family! And I was so impressed with the sleek and intelligent design of the guest room. The rain shower head, the slippers, the cozy pillows and linens. Perfect! Every need was met and then some! The location is also wonderful to enjoy the area while also keeping quiet. Easy walk to town and brilliant suggestions made for dining and things to do! This stay was one of the highlights of our trip to Greece. We are so grateful!
This property was outstanding. My husband and I have vacationed in Greece many times, mostly the islands. This property is significantly nicer than most Greek hotels. The quality and workmanship was excellent, the room was also exceptionally well decorated. Our balcony had amazing views over the town and looking straight up the rocks to the monasteries. If you are lucky enough to find a vacancy here - take it. Stavos the owner has thought of everything and was a great host. We wished we could have stayed longer.
One of the friendliest staff that I encountered. Hotel staff went out of the way to make us feel at home. Always smiling. Always checking to see how they can make our stay even better.
Rooms are very well equipped and the beds are very comfortable.
Hotel has too much character. It is filled with Greek statues and feels like living in a beautiful museum.
Good free breakfast.
Hotel is centrally located in the town center and close to all the monasteries.
Highly recommend this place. Must stay place in Meteora
The hotel is very good for a few days trip to Kalambaka or to explore the Meteora. Good location, close to the bus stop and the train station. The staff is very very helpful and kind!
The breakfast is sufficient, the room is equipped beyond expectations ( free air conditioning, soap, etc).
The hotel is a very good choice for the price, it is a 2-star hotel, accordingly, the furniture is a bit old, some rooms face a side street, but the price-value ratio is excellent!
The hotel was in good location, next to the main street and close to Kalambaka. The room was large, clean, hot, with a lot of facilities. The bed was very comfortable and soft. The ceilings and the walls were decorated very nice. The view was wonderful, you could see Meteora. Breakfast was amazing, healthy with a large variety of products, everything you would expect. The staff was very kind.
The room/entire hotel had spectacular views of the city of Kastraki and the rocks of Meteora. The breakfast and coffee were exceptional each morning, with an adorable seating area with a view. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was large and had a very comfortable bed. Since the hotel is nestled in the rocks near the top of the city hill, the evenings were quiet and serene.
Hotel is located just outside Kalampaka in a cosy and quiet environment that offers a wonderful view of the rock fomations and a coupe of the monasteries. It has plenty parking space, roomy, clean, bright, and stylishly furnished rooms with big windows and cozy beds. There are many sitting areas in the hotel including sunny terraces and patios. Coffee and jam offerings were excellent.
The room was not so big, but it was comfortable. The bathroom had a window, which I find always good, and my room had a big terrace. Kastrakis is a wonderful town, there are many restaurants just close to the hotel and Meteora is a couple of kilometers distant. Everything you will see around here is wonderful! I have enjoyed it a lot, thank you!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was small but enough. Breakfast was simple but perfect; I loved it a lot, even better than a more expensive hotel I stayed at in Athens. They even provided toothbrushes, an amenities kit, and a shoe cleaner, something I have never found in accommodations in Greece. Everything else is perfect.
The hotel room is small, but very cozy and with a good view of the mountains. Everything is nearby, the best restaurant, shops, and a tour desk, where we booked an excellent excursion (30 Euros per person) “Watching the sunset at Meteora.” This is an unforgettable place. as if we had visited another planet.
Hosts were very gracious and hospitable. Host came down to help us find the hotel. Very nice efficiency apartment, 5 minutes from the road leading to the monasteries. Great value for the money. One of the nicest places we have stayed during our many trips to Greece!
It's a solid budget option in the Meteora area and I used it as a break from hostelling. The hotel was clean and useful for what it was. It's kind of in the middle of town and close to restaurants. It is not especially good or bad either way.
Good location in Kalambaka close to the road leading to the monasteries. Tasty breakfast - restaurant also overlooking Meteoras. Great room, large bathroom, shower larger than any bathroom I rented in Greece :) In hotel is a large parking.
The room was gorgeous, with a nice patio to see the sunset and some of the meteora rocks. Best room we stayed in during our 2.5 weeks in Greece. Clean, spacious, and very comfortable. Ample free parking at the hotel.
The view if the Meteora was spectacular! Can't comment on amentiies since the hotel had just opened for the season, but our room was comfortable.located a short drive from town in a quiet rural location.
Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. they even let us borrow a pair of binoculars for our stay! The breakfast was outstanding, possibly the best I’ve had in a hotel in Greece.
