Location wise, you are in the absolute center of the City! - The square of King George was built under the Kapodistrias government as a part of the 1829 plans to rebuild the devastated center of Patras after the Greek War of Independence. - It is an ample square with two fountains on the north and the southern side with statues inspired by Greek mythology. Around the square, many Neoclassical buildings exist, among which the Apollo Theatre and the National Bank of Greece. - In the 19th and the 20th century, this is where all public events and open balls were held in Patra. Today, this is also where demonstrations and carnival events take place and where most of the activities and shopping are concentrated.
