The view out the front window in the living room was lovely. The place gets good morning sun. The couches were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic. The host was responsive, gave us good information and made check in and check out simple.

We went out of season, reason being work from April until November. It was just what we were looking for quiet, peaceful. A few bars for drinks, cocktails and a few places to eat. Most others were closed, but really did not matter to us. Ideal base for visiting Vai beach and other places of interest.

Beautiful place to stay, relaxed but with a good choice of places to walk, eat and take in the sun. Try The Green Beach, it has a small restaurant down partly on the beach. A lovely quiet place to read a book in peace with crystal clear sea.

Makrygialos is absolutely lovely.
Makrygialos is absolutely lovely. The main beach is great and is perfect for children. We ate out every lunch and dinner time. Fantastic selection of restaurants. Found them very reasonable; you can eat cheaply or spend more if you wish. You can walk around Makrygialos very easily and everything you need is there. You won't find nightclubs or noisy bars! It is very much a family holiday environment. You need a car to get there or a taxi and definitely if you want to do some sightseeing.

Lovely peaceful place with a safe clean beach and plenty of places to eat. I don't think that there is a more friendly place in Crete and I am only sorry that it took us so long to find it. We are going to try and visit every year for as long as we are able to.

It's a beautiful village by the sea.
It's a beautiful village by the sea. The beach is shallow and safe, so great for swimmers and non swimmers alike. There doesn't seem to be a lot of hotels, (a selfish but good point) although there were plenty of tavernas catering for all tastes. There seemed to be enough people about to make the resort seem busy but not overcrowded.
I have been to Elafonisi and Balos beaches which are more beautiful but the facilities and clean beach means that I would rather stay at Makry Gialos. We swam every day that We were there.
Parking can be a bit of a problem as the car parks aren't large or well signposted and one is up a very steep hill.
We had great food at the Faros taverna and at the Cavern bar. A very special mention to Ian and Sharon at the Cavern bar for great (UK) food and the warmest of welcomes. We actually watched Queen Elizabeth the II funeral in the bar, as it was the nearest we could get to being there.
Most of the beach is covered with sunbeds although you only have to buy a drink to use them. I have been to resorts that charge up to 10 euros a day for two sunbeds and a parasol!
I am loving the thought of spending more time there next year.
The biggest problem for me were the fumes emitted by the Chrissi island boat drifting across the beach between 10.30 and 11.15 in the morning when it left its mooring.

Makry Gialos gave us the impression of a bit shabby place.
Makry Gialos gave us the impression of a bit shabby place.
If you leave the location of the appartment , you come onto the main road where ( if you turn right into the 'village' ) some little shops can be found. Best to stay near the location of big blue appartments.......
We had an evening dinner in a restaurant near our accomodation which was ok. There is also a fish restaurant on the end of the small boulevard.
Fantastically renovated sheep barns. Each one was different but with a nice setting. We wanted to have the see view ones, but got “Skinos” and it was great. Anyways the sea is far, so you don’t see much. Inside its really well done and comfortable. Outside its so pleasant to stay in the shade in the middle of nature.
From there you can do a beautiful hike into the Pefki Gorge. The village down on the seaside (Makry Gialos) has a pretty seaside and series of restaurants.
Very clean, high quality apartment equipped with everything you need for your holiday, very comfortable king sized bed, plus a single bed in a partitioned off area of the main bedroom fully equipped kitchen, everything as described and as per photos, very friendly host who is always on hand to help and advise. Great location. Highly recommended. Best accommodation we have had anywhere in Greece. Will definitely be back.
Apartment was absolutely lovely and clean with an amazing large balcony facing the beach. Hosts supplied everything you could possibly need plus they threw in a large basket of fruit, olive oil and local pastries. The apartment is in walking distance to the main restaurants and even has a good taverna within 50meters. We have been traveling around Crete for 3 weeks and this was our nicest stay by far. We loved it!!
Exquisite location, with wonderful sea view and very very polite and friendly staff. Hotel provided 24-hour reception, where you can also get an appointment by made doctor visits and beauty treatments. So amazing that! Room was unique beautiful and spacious. Nice ambiance, great and delicious breakfast which was served at the hotel's restaurant buffet. All in all was a great experience.
Like a well kept secret, Village is rustic but special.
Very relaxed hotel which lends itself to a very relaxed holiday. Chrisoulla and Nicos are honestly the secret ingredients to this place and I have no idea how the business would cope without them!!
Room(s) were ideal for our family of 4 with neighbouring front doors and a shared exit. Lunches were lovely
Ideally situated a short distance from the lovely village of Makriagialos, this apartment hotel has a good cafe/bar and two lovely pools as well as access to a nearby beach. There was parking on site. The apartment was well appointed with two bedrooms and two balconies as well as a large roof terrace. The views are second to none!
Beautiful pool area to rest in the sun or the shade after a busy morning on the beach. Food at the restaurant was delicious, drinks were tasty and the waiters very genteel and friendly. Would strongly recommend this hotel if you want Greek facilities, peaceful haven, friendly staff and clean room's and a relaxing pool area.
Great quiet place : no road, no noise, reduced electricity and wifi that forces you to disconnect. Nice place from where to explore the south and east of Crete.
The apartments are large with a real living room, a real bathroom and a real bedroom + a private outdoor terrace.
Equipement provided enables to eat on site.
The location is excellent, 79 steps and you are on the beach. A lot of Crete apartments are quite rustic. This apartment is modern with all the facilities you would need to dine at home. Decorated in keeping the a sea side apartment. The outdoor shower was fantastic, ideal for a cool shower on return from the beach
The highlight of my stay was the sea-water pool with its accompanying pool bar-restaurant. It provided the ideal setting for relaxation, and I indulged in some delicious treats by the pool. The hotel also thoughtfully catered to families with a separate pool for children, ensuring their safety while having fun.
We loved the hotel. The food was outstanding, the staff smile and are helpful, the sea and beach are great, and our room is marvellous. When there was a problem, it was attended to immediately.
If you like walking, do the Pefki Gorge. You walk there directly from the hotel.
We had an amazing time with my fiance, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The location of the hotel is great with an amazing beach and the pool bar was very close so we definitely enjoyed it !
A great family hotel in a quaint town away from the mainstream within walking distance from some great restaurants.
The beach is meters away, with a pool fed from the Mediterranean.
Great hotel, amazing rooms, welcoming staff and good priced. Overall, a fantastic experience with these added features that made my stay even more enjoyable.
