FAQs about hotels in Coventry

The Legacy of Legends

South-east of Birmingham, Coventry is best known for the shell of its old cathedral, a poignant reminder of the damage sustained during World War II. Part of its northern wall joins the new Modernist cathedral, designed by Sir Basil Spence.

In the neighbouring gardens are remains of an 11th-century Benedictine monastery set up by Lord Leofric. His wife - Lady Godiva - became Coventry’s greatest legend by riding naked on horseback in protest at her husband’s high taxes.

St Mary’s Guildhall is built on part of the old castle, and Baginton on the city’s outskirts houses the reconstructed Roman Lunt Fort. Also here is Coventry Airport, by the Midland Air Museum, whose exhibits include a Vulcan.

The Coventry Transport Museum houses examples of vehicles manufactured in the city over the years. Also historic are the canals north of the city centre, lined by Grade II-listed buildings. Other attractions include the Warwick Arts Centre – the UK’s 2nd largest – and the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City FC. The Sky Dome Arena is an ice hockey and music venue, while the best shopping is found in Arena Park Centre.

The city has 2 universities, so naturally features many bars and restaurants. There are also several Coventry hotels, guest houses and country houses on Booking.com, most with parking and some with pools.

I have visited Coventry a few times and every time I come back I am pleased with my trip. Beautiful architecture and friendly people. The diverse food options are great and the food is tasty and cheap! Citizens are helpful and polite which is refreshing when you’re from down south. Popeys and Chinese kitchen are always a bargain and full of flavour, although they are not in the city centre but they are worth a try :) The cathedral is always worth a visit! As well as the museum which is next to it, there are lots of statues and details which hold the city’s culture and history. The market is also worth a visit full of culture from Irish to African, the people are welcoming and are not trying to haggle your money. It is easy to get around as everything is closer than you would expect.

As the ‘motor city’ Coventry should have better traffic...

As the ‘motor city’ Coventry should have better traffic management; it’s a bit of a nightmare to navigate at busy times. But there are many worthy attractions and Coventry is starting to move out from under the shadow of Birmingham. The new rail station is good to see and there are so many lovely old buildings to explore. (The latter somewhat reduce the impact of so many high rise student flats. What possessed the local council to dish out so many permits for student accom? They do not enhance the skyline, never mind the well-being of residents.)

We adored the water features in the middle of the pavement!

We adored the water features in the middle of the pavement! So many sequences and lights ,fascinating. The Museum and wildlife photography exhibition brilliant, the Cathedral and ruins, the wonderful market. Neither my sister and I had visited before so were delighted not just to see the statue of Lady Godiva, but the amazing event which happens every hour on the building behind her. Amusing and well worth watching. ( Naughty peeping Tom ! ) All in all Coventry has amazing choices of where and what to eat. The Old Wetherspoons is well worth a visit. We went twice. We are certainly planning another visit before the end of the year. Shirl

I'm from Coventry and know it well.

I'm from Coventry and know it well. Although I feel affection for my home city, I don't actually like it very much. There are some brilliant attractions, nice restaurants, and the city centre can be pleasant on a summer's day; however much of the city looks dirty and worn, and I don't always feel safe walking in the city at night. For this reason a city centre hotel with parking on the outskirts entails using cabs or buses to reach the car, which adds expense. I think for a visitor though those things are manageable; Coventry's no worse, probably better and safer, than many cities; it's just not like it was when I grew up there. I'm surprised the Transport Museum and the Herbert Gallery are not listed as attractions to rate here. The city also has a proud and deserved musical heritage (Two-Tone) and there are exhibits about this, and some wonderfully preserved mediaeval buildings (Spon Street and elsewhere). There is a fascinating preserved archaeological dig in the cathedral quarter that was extensively covered by Time Team.

There's plenty to do for a weekend visit: the Transport Museum is one none of the best in the country & certainly one located in the middle of the city centre. Herbert Gallery has a great location in a terrific building & location. Coventry Cathedral is beautiful & unique & a wonderful example of post-war British architecture as is the shopping area made up of a series of interlocking pedestrian precincts that was Britain's first. The 1950s architecture is fantastic & a little bit like time-travelling as it is largely complete & unspoilt. There is plenty of shopping opportunities with a really wide mix of shops that makes the city centre a place for everyone & this is shown to be true as, at the weekends, it's full of people & provides a dynamic atmosphere to the city.

Chose an apartment opposed to a hotel as was travelling with my daughter and newborn grandson to visit my parents in Coventry and I wanted us all to be together. Clean and modern with great facilities. Great central location. Connivence store close by if you forget anything. Messaged staff to request guarantee we could have a cot for my grandson and they replied straight away to confirm they would assure this. Cot was excellent . Would definitely return.

The hotel is in a great location, only 5 minutes away from the city centre. Room had a perfect view of the transport museum and Coventry cathederal. I was also travelling with a disabled family member and thankfully certain members of staff helped make our stay easier. Some staff members were lovely and helpful, especially the security guards who were very friendly and bubbly.

Staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and the staff were, again, very friendly. Room was large, comfortable and clean and I was lucky to be on a high floor with a nice view of the Coventry skyline. Very close to Coventry Butts Park Arena (3 minute walk). Pleasantly surprised by how good this hotel was. Would definitely stay again.

The property is located right in the centre of Coventry City Centre. There was no noise at night from the outside seeing as it is so close to all of the attractions. The property is pet friendly so we bought our dog Enzo (huge cane corso) who was a hit with everyone in the town. We definitely recommend this accommodation over any hotel

I was given a full refund. Location to conference is good as hotel is inside the arena (this did not make up for the issues I had and if I was to stay in Coventry again I would choose to stay further away from the arena rather than endure another night here!)
