I came up to Kelso with my Husband intending to look for a house in the Borders. Whilst looking for accommodation overnight, I came upon Janet and Allan's property. Kelso is a lovely town and the accommodation was a 3-minute drive from the town centre or 15-minute walk. The room was integrated with the main house, though had its separate entrance. Janet was a lovely host and I was delighted to find that we were both from a similar area in the North East of England. Janet was very knowledgeable about the Borders area and the town of Kelso too, recommending where to eat and what to see. The house is in such a lovely quiet area and the room was warm and comfortable, the bed was super comfy too, enabling us to have a good night's sleep. Breakfast was tasty and fresh with a few options, and the whole experience was lovely and very good value for money. We will continue to visit the borders area in our pursuit of a property and will make Janet and Allan's lovely home our place of choice to stay en route.
We ate at The Cobbles and also The Cross Keys. We had a takeaway from the Chinese in Kelso. All Good and enjoyable.
Kelso is compact and all on the flat. We used it as a base to visit other places in the Borders.

The history is all within walking distance. it has enough going on but like all towns since COVID, there are hopes closed that may never open again. the bus is regular so you can relax and watch the very beautiful scenery while having visits to other towns.

It was a very nice apartment on two floors. Steep stairs up to both floors but apart from that very nice indeed and would highly recommend. We were visiting my sister who lives up the street from the Bakehouse so the recommendations below are not applicable as it was Christmas and all was closed.

A lovely little area with some amenities round about.
A lovely little area with some amenities round about. From our hotel in Roxburgh it took 5 minutes in a taxi to the town square. The town itself has everything you need Greg’s, chemist, co-op, coffee shops, antique stores, few pubs. So you can definitely spend a few hours toddling about.
There is also a castle about another 2/3 minutes drive by. But do check the website for seasonal opening times.
For great wholesome food I’d definitely recommended cobbles inn. You’ll probably have to book a table so be prepared, it’s a busy little place.

Floors castle is a must see, not many shops open on Sunday Monday
Ate at The Contened Vine which we had to book on a Monday night at 6pm would definitely recommend eating there
Not many more pubs or restaurants to choose from in Kelso
The food the friendly staff the view and old world atmosphere. Second stay at the Ednam House. Tucked away by the riverside but still right in the middle of Kelso with lots of old world charm. The standard room was quite large and bathroom looked recently updated. On our four night trip to the borders the hotel was better value, more comfortable than others we stayed in by a long way. Staff seemed as if they were actually happy to be at work there and not just going through the motions. Ask for room with a river view😀
The apartment was very comfortable and the living-room spacious. The kitchen was very well equipped and we had everything we needed to cook for ourselves. Because the apartment is near the town square it was close to several restaurants. We enjoyed burgers and a steak at the Saddler's in the Cross Keys Hotel plus the food at the nearby Contented Vine. The bookshop in the town square was well worth a visit - a great range for a relatively small shop.
It was absolutely a marvalice weekend at union Street suites we stepped out the door to all the amenities pubs restaurants shops and the main thing we were there for kelso races 10 minutes from the door. The apartment was immaculate definitely be back without a doubt.
The hosts are lovely people, very welcoming and helpful. The location of the property is in a quiet residential area just outside the town centre, walkable in 10 minutes. The recreation room is excellent with plenty of entertainment and a fully kitted out kitchen.
Everything you’d need and in the perfect location for touring the area. Hosts were lovely and the cooked breakfast was perfect! Off road parking available at the property and very short walk into Kelso market square, with plenty of places to shop, eat & drink.
The cottage was cosy and everything I could want for a solo stay with work. The bathroom is fabulous, the cottage roasting and the bed very very comfortable. Close enough for travelling each day to Kelso for work.
This was our second visit to Castle Nook, and once again we could find no fault with the property. It is handy for the centre of Kelso, there is parking close by, the property was clean and well looked after.
We stayed in a suite in the orangery , which was lovely very spacious and quiet .
With lovely views of garden and river .
The hotel has a unique charm .
Food excellent and staff friendly and helpful .
What we liked was the breakfast. It was a real Scottish meal for black pudding, bacon, egg, and your haggis was wonderful. We were about town. Kelso has a way to tourists to make them feel at home.
The whole house is amazing.
Very comfortable, clean and bright.
Right in middle of Kelso Square.
The main bathroom is stunning, feature bath it's lovely.
