A very warm welcome awaits you at The Great Grubb. Awarded Trip Advisor's Certificate of Excellence and achieving the rating of 'Superb' as reviewed by our guests, we aim to make your stay just perfect. Situated in the beautiful Elizabethan market town of Totnes, we are only a short walk from the railway station, castle and town centre. Guests enjoy relaxing in our peaceful conservatory, terraced garden or under the grape vine on our south-facing patio. We have ample private off-street parking and areas for cyclists to store their bikes overnight. Our selection of single, double, king and twin rooms are all ensuite and include free WiFi, a flatscreen TV, hair dryer, towels, toiletries and beverage tray with filter coffee. We have several dedicated hypoallergenic rooms. We serve a comprehensive breakfast menu and are experienced in catering for those who have specific dietary needs or preferences. Families are welcome. We have a travel cot and high chair for young infants as well as a futon (suitable for children less than 10 years of age) which can be set up in one of our rooms.
Arriving in Devon in 2018, new to the hosting sector and indeed the area, we could never have predicted how enchanted we would become with both! We love getting to know our guests and take great satisfaction in making their time with us memorable for all the right reasons. Sandra was born and raised in the West Country and comes from a background of 25 years in primary school teaching. She loves exploring the local countryside and the stunning beaches that are close by. She is a keen kayaker and loves wild swimming when it's warm and watercolour painting when it's wet. John has Scottish routes, is ex-military and more recently an IT consultant. He loves to cook! His hobbies include wood-turning, whittling, pyrography and leather craft. Together we love to get out and about, relaxing and recharging in the variety of gorgeous local settings, from the gardens of Dartington, the creeks of the River Dart and the local woodlands to our favourite coves and bustling harbours.
Guests tend to love the Great Grubb's location, set against a rural backdrop of trees and sloping fields and yet only a 500m walk to the hustle and bustle of Totnes town. Just a few minutes up the road are the open public grounds and edible gardens of the Follaton Arboretum, a great place for a short evening walk where guests enjoy panoramic views of Dartmoor from the top of the winding path. Totnes itself is a captivating, historical town with a high street full of unique, independent shops and cafes. Guests love to explore the galleries, trendy boutiques, Norman castle and Elizabethan museum as well as finding a bargain in the lively food and craft markets which take place in the heart of the town centre. Many of our guests come to visit the South Devon Railway, exploring the stunning countryside by steam train, whilst others favour the river boats which leave from the quay at the bottom of town. There are so many things to see and do the area that we recommend you visit the Totnes Information Centre website.
