Company info

I'm Kay, I am an artist and I have worked hard creating The Ceramic House since I moved to Brighton in 2008. I am a ceramic artist and I create sculpture for public and private spaces and installations for exhibitions. I live with my partner who is also an artist. We both make a living from our art. I am originally from Scotland. There is a very relaxed, friendly, creative vibe here. I love having people to stay and you will feel most welcome and comfortable here. I have travelled extensively and can speak various languages so try me! I might speak yours! Anyone and everyone is welcome who is considerate and friendly. You will find a very helpful, attentive, caring host in me and a very special place to stay.

Property info

The Ceramic House is the creation of architectural ceramicist Kay Aplin, who has transformed her home into a living work of art and created a permanent showcase of her ceramic installations. It is also a pop-up gallery, an artists residency, and a unique guesthouse where you can experience staying in a living artwork. Many surfaces inside and out are covered with Kay’s large-scale tiled installations, all the bathrooms are tiled with hand-made tiles and the garden is a very special, unusual space filled with colour. The furniture is an eclectic mix of vintage and antique and the whole house is filled with artwork. This is a true artist’s home which Kay would like to share with you.

Neighborhood info

The Ceramic House is situated on Stanmer Villas in Fiveways, specifically Hollingdean, just around the corner from the Fiveways junction where there are many shops, cafes, and some pubs. There are more great pubs a short distance away in Fiveways. The number 50 bus goes down Stanmer Villas which goes straight into town (10 minutes) or it’s a 25 minute walk. This is as close as you can get to the city centre and still have free parking. At the end of Stanmer Villas you can access Hollingbury Woods and the golf course, which leads directly on to the South Downs. Hollingbury Iron Age Hill Fort is 10 minutes’ walk and has stunning views along the coast.
