A departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centered around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.
There is much older history in the city center where the 15th-century city walls are amongs the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.
Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Center, while main street stores in the city center and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city has great theaters, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.
There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks is a historic site. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.
If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

Southampton is a lovely city with a bustling town centre.
Southampton is a lovely city with a bustling town centre. It's famous for being the port from where the Titanic set off. I really like West Quay as a shopping mall - there's a lot of good places to eat at. I also like the entire stretch of High Street, there are weekly markets and also some pop ups stalls sometimes. The art gallery and library are free to enter, and you can also enjoy SeaCity Museum for a small fee. It's a wonderful city to walk in and just chill, but it's not as jam packed as London. However, from Southampton you can head to Winchester, the Isle of Wight, Brighton, Bournemouth, Beaulieu and more! There's also Paulton's Park which is home to Peppa Pig World. The buses are usually very efficient, and you have Uber or taxi services everywhere. All in all it's a great place to visit.

Southampton is like most cities in the UK.
Southampton is like most cities in the UK. Large shopping centre with various high street options and eateries. It has a leisure centre for swimming, plenty of gyms and large green spaces / parks to walk and talk in. It has strong ties to the Titanic story, as the ship left from one of the docks there. The museum is worth a visit. The Mayflower theatre has great shows on regularly.

Would have been nice to have stayed but I wasn't permitted to change my booking. I booked for one night for an early hospital appointment that was changed at the last minute. Despite there being vacancies for my changed date the hotel would not allow me to change my original booking so I lost my payment.

Lovely historic port city, great shopping facilities and choose of restaurants in and around the city centre. Parking in multi-storey was best as outside parking restrictions mean it can be congested. Great pedestrian shopping areas too. Coastal parks and green spaces make the areas for recreation great to explore. Port for departing cruises and being a university city means a diverse young population. Would recommend over nearby Portsmouth any day.
Lovely hotel, everything was superb. Just a bit pricey. Would definitely go again though, and book earlier to get a better rate.
We really liked the very comfortable bed, the spacious room and bathroom, the superb restaurant, the pool, jacuzzi and steam room, and the glass lift!
Proximity to Southampton City Centre and the waterfront was brilliant too - so easy to see the city and all it has to offer.
The hotel is very impressive, set in the heart of the docklands area of Southampton. The staff were excellent and so friendly. Nothing was a problem to them. I had dinner with colleagues in the more casual dining area on the 6th floor beside the bar. The food was good, and the bar was very cosy with a chilled vibe. They had a great selection of spirits, an extensive drinks menu, and a lovely cocktail list.
The Moxy is fresh, modern, funky, the main lobby/bar and rooms are very clean and well appointed and a great location for West Quay, food outlets, bars and the sea front. We have stayed in both the Moxy & Premier Inn just next door prior to cruising, the Premier Inn is a good hotel & brand, but i am sorry to say the one at West Quay needs a makeover as its looking slightly tired.
The location is good and the price is fair but the property is not easy to access as entry codes are not provided early enough to allow us to receive them before departing from our home country. Having no internet access in the UK, it made it almost impossible to enter the hotel without the help of a kind stranger who had internet access.
Fantastic location ; easy to walk into Southampton to the shops and theatre . Despite being on busy road , quiet and rooms at back of the hotel have a great view over the old walls . The staff were so warm , welcome and friendly , the food was fantastic and the rooms were spacious , clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back .
Great location. I stayed here for a cruise departure the next morning. Hotel is a very quick walk from the train station - and the cruise terminal was a cheap taxi journey.
Room was a decent size. Convenient refrigerator in room. Separate bathroom and toilet room will be a benefit for some.
Staff were friendly when I arrived.
The hotel was situated in a good location and we were able to walk to restaurants, shopping and even a launderette. The host was very helpful in assisting us with amenities and places to go. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Will definitely stay again when we return to Southampton.
The location was an easy walk from the train and a minute to the downtown. The hotel was much nicer than I anticipated for what seemed like a bargain price. I loved the little touches of tea and coffee service set up in our room with cookies. We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious.
Our first short trip to Southampton and this was a lovely apartment. A good location close to the marina and town centre. Bars and restaurants very near by too. The host, Paul, could not have been more helpful. We can definitely recommend this property
The hotel room was fine, clean, comfortable, lovely shower room, and you could control the heating temperature. the position was good with easy access off M271 and a straightforward run in to Southampton and Cruise Terminal.
We like the hotel and the rooms are a really good size with a full size bathroom. Parking is plentiful although the bays are odd shaped so be aware for larger vehicles. Breakfast is buffet but can get busy so book.
Hotel great location both for a night out in Southampton and cruise terminals. Always found the hotel met our expectations. Clean good rooms and hearty breakfast.
Hotel was amazingly clean and tidy, the staff were excellent and very friendly.
And we absolutely loved the fact it's dog friendly.
All round a wonderful hotel.
The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good. The hotel is in the High St and convenient for the centre of Southampton and the train station.
