Sidmouth was a beautiful little seaside town with plenty of places to eat and drink! Dog friendly beach in winter and lots of dog-friendly pubs/cafes! Beach is shingle/large pebble so not for everyone, but there’s a promenade/path the whole way along! Lots of nice little independent shops & charity shops! Parking gets very busy so you’re better off parking in the ‘weekend and walk’ car park slightly outside town - not far at all! We visited in February but I’ve been told is gets very busy from May onwards. There is a folk festival on the first weekend of August every year which I hear is great (but very busy)!

Clean and friendly, lovely relaxing atmosphere.

Clean and friendly, lovely relaxing atmosphere. Great local pub, The Anchor, right in the middle of town, great service and food. Really good variety of shops, with hardly any vacant stores. Clean beach and great walk along the front. A very well kept resort which makes a change.

There's nothing there but the countryside. Great for a solo weekend trip, but probably 1 week was too long. Especially when the accommodation was disappointing. And from London, I don't think it's worth the drive.

Lovely seaside town offering lots of cafes and restaurants.

Lovely seaside town offering lots of cafes and restaurants. You can walk to the shopping area with a good variety of shops including gift shops. Plenty of opportunities to buy ice cream too. Very clean town and felt very safe. Clean beach and easily accessible for all and easy to park. Connaught Gardens are beautiful with lots of flowers, shrubs in various different areas to explore and plenty of seating. It also has a little cafe with outside seating. Overall a pretty little seaside town with lots of beach front hotels and facilities.

This is a wonderful, traditional hotel, well run by owners and friendly staff. Having afternoon tea on the lawn, sitting on exceptionally comfortable garden furniture, we felt like we’d left the busy world behind and stepped into an oasis of tranquility. Our room was comfortable and very clean. We didn’t eat dinner there but breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Great location too, just a short stroll through a pretty park takes you into town and then the seafront.

This Grand Old Dame of English seaside hotels is in sparkling condition throughout. She is not cheap - but she is an excellent hostess and she will fulfil your every wish if you let her. Some may find her old fashioned - but that is a major part of her charm. From Martinis in the afternoon to sunsets over the sea in the evening, she has everything you need for a relaxing weekend. The sound of the waves playing us to sleep at through an open window was an added bonus!

LOVE THIS HOTEL, and the AMAZING staff, truly a 'throwback' to an earlier more genteel and mannered time. From the moment Anthony, in his dapper suit & panama hat, met us at the curbside we knew this would be a special stay. It is worth splurging to get a room at the front of the hotel with views of the sea. Sidmouth is incredibly charming, without massive crowds. We are from California, and we will make the journey to return here!

Small quiet hotel, with a family run feel, set in lovely gardens in a peaceful area of Sidmouth, within easy walking distance of the sea front and town. Lovely choice for breakfast which fills you up for the day. Evening meal, which needed to be booked in advance, was delicious and served by friendly staff. There is a lovely lounge to enjoy an evening drink.

Small but very clean and comfortable. I stayed on a b & b basis and couldn’t fault the food. My single room was perfectly adequate for my needs and the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The history behind this hotel makes it quite special and it’s location is perfect for the beach, the town and the lovely walks that surround Sidmouth.
