Ashtree House Hotel, Glasgow Airport & Paisley, hotel in Bridge of Weir

Set in an oasis of tranquility in the heart of Paisley’s heritage and entertainment district, this splendid Listed Regency Georgian Town House boasts its own private courtyard and walled garden.

The hosts, Marjorie and Tom, were delightful. They took extra care to make sure we had everything we needed including the best whisky choice and setting up our early a.m. cab ride to the airport. We weren't sure that the hotel was in the best location (safety-wise) on our drive in, but it turned out to be a convenient and safe location. Marjorie was exceptionally attentive and made sure we were comfortable and happy during our stay. She had great suggestions for a place to pick up lunch and to visit the local abbey.

Bridge of Weir is a nice little village.

Bridge of Weir is a nice little village. It has some lovely restaurants & cafes dotted along the main street. Bernie's does a lovely breakfast & the staff are very friendly. There are some nice walks that you can do to sites of interest around the area. You can get local buses to the main shopping center which is about 30m away. There isn't a train station in the area but it is only a short drive to Johnstone.

I knew that there would be some noise when staying above a pub, but this was excessive; the noise level from the bar below was like standing beside the speakers at a music festival. I had earplugs, headphones with a white noise app playing, and the room's TV on high volume, yet still the music from below drowned all this out. The room was shaking and the window was rattling in its frame fit to fall out. This went on until 1am Friday and Saturday, and midnight Sunday. I only survived because I found somewhere else to crash for a few hours before returning to my room very late. You can either be party central or a B&B - you can't be both simultaneously, and had I known the music situation, I would never have booked. I understand that there will be noise above a pub, and I also understand that this is a listed building so alterations may not be possible; but the noise was at what I would consider dangerous volume levels, I wouldn't be surprised if the staff and patrons suffer hearing loss due to it. Even my own preventative measures (headphones, earplugs) couldn't help. On another note, the room could have done with a good clean; the carpet definitely needed vacuuming, and the cups in my room had not been cleaned (I had brought my own flask with cups, so it wasn't an inconvenience for me personally, but nasty if you wanted a cuppa and had nothing else to use). There was minimal heating (not good in October), and the milk in the disposable little containers had gone off. How long do you have to leave UHT milk to go off?! All in all, very poor. I would never book again, and will warn my colleagues and fellow event traders to not book here.

Quarriers Village is (thankfully) quite remote from Bride Of Weir. The town itself is a bit of a contrast - some really scruffy areas, takeaways and pubs, but the two restaurants are great. The Shimla provides an excellent curry, and the Italians will deliver back to Quarrier's if eating in. Kilmacolm is nearer to Quarriers Village and is a much nicer village/town for a visit and shopping. has a good butchers etc. Quarriers Village is really peaceful, has gorgeous grounds, buildings, and surrounding parkland and river walks, and has a really interesting history.
