FAQs about hotels in Norwich

A Center of Commerce Through the Ages

Once an important medieval trading centre, Norwich remains a popular shopping destination. The Chapelfield centre is the newest addition, whereas a historic shop sells the city’s most famous export: Colman’s Mustard. Castle Mall is underground, in a hill topped with a keep, part of the 12th-century castle founded by William the Conqueror.

Dating to the same era is the large cobbled square housing a 6-day market. It was said that Norwich had a church for every week, and while that is no longer true, over 30 medieval churches still exist. The cathedral was built using stone from Normandy and boasts England’s 2nd largest cloisters and 2nd tallest spire.

Colourful medieval façades line Elm Hill and the Guildhall is another fine example of the period. Half-timbered Dragon Hall was a trading hall, while St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls constitute England’s most intact friary. The 14th-century Cow Tower sits by the River Wensum upstream from Pulls Ferry, the train station and Norwich City FC.

Reportedly, Norwich once had a pub for every day, and today’s traditional inns and modern bars are certainly popular with the student population. Other entertainment options include the Theatre Royal and Playhouse.

Norwich accommodation on Booking.com includes historic hotels with pools, city centre guest houses and riverside apartments, all near to Norwich Airport.

Only stayed one night but a visit to Norwich cathedral on the Sunday morning for the sung Eucharist service was very enjoyable, with choristers, a characterful cathedral cat called Budge, tea and coffee afterwards and the chance to admire this beautiful historic building

Norwich - the only hill in Norfolk is famous for Elm Hill the Tudor street, cathedral and castle. The centre is compact so the touristy bits are easy to walk round. The market is well worth a visit as is a walk along the river to whet the appetite before stopping for an excellent sandwich at the Britons Arms.

Easy access to bus and train station.

Easy access to bus and train station. Lots of historic sights to visit. Good shopping including a market. Great old bookshops. The cathedral is fabulous. Lots of varieties of cafes, restaurants and all sorts of pubs and bars.. But need to book. Good entertainments including street musicians. As with all other cities not good to see rough sleepers. They should have safe places to go.

Norwich is a walkable city with some historic buildings, (Castle, cathedral and churches), and less attractive modern buildings. Plenty of pubs and restaurants but signposting in the city could be clearer. It took us a while to locate the cathedral which was disappointing from the outside but more impressive within.

Norwich is very well arranged city and kept in good order.

Norwich is very well arranged city and kept in good order. Shopping is good with a well appointed department store. Restaurants abound and cater for most tastes and budgets. The Ivy was particularly good. The local population are very helpful and will return or even offer a smile. The centre of town has a permanent covered market stall area which is definitely worth exploration. One of a few towns that I will happily revisit.

Lovely range of shops; lots of interesting little independent places and a lively market. And excellent range of eating places. Lots of lovely old buildings; Victorian and Georgian streets. I recommend the walk through the Cathedral Close down to the river. Also a visit to the Forum where there's always something to see.

I needed a cheap simple hotel for one night as I was in Norwich for the evening. I checked in late and left early so didn't need many facilities. But the bed was comfy, the TV worked, the room was clean and quiet, the shower was hot, the towels were clean and there were tea & coffee facilities plus a fridge if I'd needed it. Plug sockets by the bed are always helpful. Plenty of parking. Check-in - receptionist was nice and the process was easy Check-out - simply pop the key card in a post box and leave

Spotlessly clean room with coffee and tea sachets so could make yourself a brew. On suite shower/toilet. Clean fluffy towels supplied and plenty of coat hangers to hang your clothes up. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel is ideally situated just a 5 min walk from Norwich train station and city centre where there are many good pubs and eateries. If your staying in Norwich you would not regret staying at the Marlborough Hotel. Highly reccomend and can't wait to stay here again

This is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Perfect location with the city centre in walking distance, yet incredibly quiet. My room was a little haven, superbly comfortable bed, tastefully decorated, plenty of power sockets and storage for clothes - and luxury of luxuries, a bath! Hotel food can be very hit and miss but here it is outstanding. But the best thing about the George is the staff, e wry single one of whom are welcoming, friendly and incredibly helpful.

Excellent staff, all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble to sort out. Food was first class and the whole ambience of the hotel was so welcoming.Given the hotel's age, all alterations had been carefully thought through and did not detract from the history of the building. Location was excellent for the Cathedral and the city generally, just a short walk to anywhere central. An excellent idea to have a hotel provided i pad in your room too!

As the name suggests the hotel is right by the train station which was great for us. Also only 5/10 min walk to the city centre. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Also given it was brutally cold this weekend it was nice to be able to whack the radiators up and get the room nice and warm. The fellas who run it were also polite and friendly.

The hotel location is great and the room is a good size. The shower is nice and powerful and the bathroom clean. I did not use the microwave and fridge but they were clean and easily accessed. I am disabled and sometimes use a wheel chair, I was not in a disabled room but found the hotel easily accessible. The staff were friendly and approachable.
