If you like fish and chips, kebabs and amusement arcades, Herne Bay will probably suit - provided it doesn't rain as there is very little to do.
There is a serious lack of decent restaurants and almost none open before Thursday!
Whitstable and Broadstairs are definitely better to visit.

Attractions in Herne Bay are limited, but worth walking out to the pier to see people catching crabs. Very peaceful walks and lovely sky scapes. Good access to nearby Canterbury, an interesting town and Cathedral to see. Also easy to get to Whitstable which has a great High Street and quirky shops. Whitstable has lots of restaurants and coffee places and is a lovely town to explore and plenty of history with the oyster catching. So using Herne Bay as a base there are lots of interesting places to visit around that part of Kent.

We have family who live in Herne Bay, so I’ve been a few times for various reasons, though this was the 1st I’d stayed anywhere outside of their home. I like it there! There’s always something to do, a good choice of shops-more than you see initially. When we’ve visited in the summer, we’ve enjoyed Air shows, classic car parades, live music and Caribbean food on the pier, the Cartoon festival or even just a BBQ on the beach. The beach is mostly sandy but nearer the beach huts, the sand turns to shingle.

On a walking holiday so only stayed one night but the Aqua Bay Guest House was spot on - would recommend. Ate in a Turkish restaurant - A La Turka - on the seafront in the evening and it was excellent.

Herne Bay is a charming seaside town.
Herne Bay is a charming seaside town.
Good choice of cafes and restaurants.
A very good Sri Lankan restaurant opposite the pier. Lovely food.
Good transport links to other seaside towns, and very close to Canterbury.
So easy to reach from London.
I found it very friendly as a lone traveller.
A had a lovely short break.
First of all Olive! She's absolutely fantastic host, and an amazing and caring person. Contacted us many times, even down to how we like our coffes, to make sure theres fresh milk in the fridge. The apartment was cosy, spacious and pleasant to stay, shower was great and location is just incredible. Value was fantastic too, for this amount our best alternatives were a tiny room in a hotel somewhere. Super great, thank you very much.
The B&B is on a quiet residential road within walking distance of the parade/High St of Herne Bay.
Hot breakfast was prepared to order and it was all really well done; Luke's scrambled eggs were really good.
The room we had also had a lovely sitting room with very comfortable sofa and the decor throughout was very stylish.
Luke and Rachel were charming and helpful hosts.
The property was located on the Central Parade of Herne Bay, parking was no problem as it is out of season. Property is spacious, clean an furnished to a high standard. Views of the bay from the living room are amazing.
Host communicated excellently an was available to answer questions when needed. Lovely touch of leaving goodies in the fridge which were appreciated.
Normally we stay in hotels but there were none near on this occasion so we tried B&B and it was really good. Our preference would be a hotel with air con and dining but we would be happy to use a BB again based on this experience if no hotel near our chosen location. Check in was smooth and friendly and the room was nice and clean and a great shower. We loved the decor.
Such a lovely couple that run this place! Communication was superb between myself and the hotel with queries from either side.
Room was nautical themed with beautiful bed linen and a cosy atmosphere. Lovely comfy bed
Right on the sea front
It was a gorgeous two night break in a quiet and peaceful part of Herne Bay. The apartment was very clean and the owner (Lisa) was so helpful and friendly. I definitely would come back. Thank you for such a lovely stay.
Very central location, easy to get to the beach and amenities. Dog friendly accommodation for a small refundable deposit. Herne Bay was friendly and welcoming, and mostly dog friendly too. We really enjoyed our stay
We absolutely loved Herne bay, lovely seaside walks. The apartment was spotless clean. It felt like home from home. Communication with a host was clear, no problems with anything. Thank you very much!
The location was great - very central and near the seafront, but also quiet... we took long walks on the beautiful beaches and also took bus trips to nearby Canterbury Whitstable and Broadstairs.
location, location, location. really easy to get to all the Herne bay attractions. Mainly the water front and the pier. Nice and quiet in the evenings to relax.
