Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

We enjoyed rhe mixture of ancient and modern & it was great for a short break. We found the free tour of the guildhall very interesting, the castle is well worth a visit & what we could see of the cathedral without paying the £11 entrance charge is wonderful.
Parking was provided at property from midday on day of arrival until midday on departure day. Parking in city is very expensive but there is a park & ride which we used & found convenient .

A great city to explore on foot.
A great city to explore on foot. The Cathedral is amazing, dog friendly and very welcoming. Unfortunately the Castle isn't but there is plenty more to see and do. Wonderful selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. Perfect for a short break.

The hotel is situated well within the city, we used the local walk and ride buses to get to the Cathedral as it can be a long climb up the steep hill but walking back down brings you past some great pubs and into the main shopping area.

We met in Lincoln and love the place.
We met in Lincoln and love the place. One issue this time is that the Car Parks have an app for paying online but it has been phished by scammers, we had contact bank and cancel our cards so beware of this!
We have visited the cathedral a few times but this visit we joined the hour long free official tour. The guide was excellent, we learnt so much.
Recommend a visit to the High Bridge Cafe.
Arrived at the Loudor and filled out my cooked breakfast request with what ever I wanted. The room was so quiet and the bed super comfy! Breakfast the next day was amazing! It was such a surprise to be served by a talking robot- loved every minute of it. There were plenty of cereals to eat, the cooked breakfast was excellent quality and the owner Wendy was so friendly. The parking is free and the hotel was super clean and felt just so safe which is important to me as a single traveller.
For those who enjoy walking, excellent location, walkways to city centre well maintained. Hotel accommodation is separate from main building ensuring privacy. Rooms are spacious , well presented & all mod cons. The Hotel is picture perfect and staff more than helpful. Breakfast varied & plentiful, Full Breakfast was very tasty. Evening meals offered a good choice. We had Stilton Burger and Haddock, both were delicious. Definitely a place to stay if visiting Lincoln & surrounding area.
The Hamilton Hotel is spotlessly clean, and comfortable, and shows signs of a recent renovation. Parking is excellent. It is a level, easy walk (about 1 mile) to Lincoln city centre. The kitchen/diner is well equipped, and would be ideal for someone looking for self catering but serviced accommodation. I chose a room with a private bathroom, which was tiny but adequate. The bed was comfortable, and the room had all the amenities one expects in a hotel.
Lovely, comfortable, clean hotel with very friendly and welcoming staff.
Our room overlooked the Brayford wharf area which is attractive both night and day.
The hotel is situated a short walk from a large number of bars, restaurants and Lincoln City Centre itself. The breakfast options and quality are absolutely top drawer, the choice is formidable. This was our third mini break here this year and it certainly won't be our last.
I loved the location - set back behind the main road so it was very quiet.
The rooms have been tastefully decorated and there’s have thought of everything you could need whilst there.
My son used the sofa bed and it was surprisingly really comfy. The main bed was also very comfy.
Parking was directly outside which made it easy … and it was walkable into Lincoln if we didn’t want to use the car.
All in all it was a great stay!
Everything, we asked for a room with a walk in shower and it was provided at no extra charge.
We had dinner at the hotel and it was most enjoyable.
After breakfast we had intended to visit elderly relatives in Lincoln prior to attending a funeral but we discovered the car had a flat tyre. While I had to stay with the car to await the AA my wife was well looked after by the hotel receptionist, who arranged tea and a taxi.
The hosts were so kind and welcoming and friendly; it felt like staying with family, in beautiful, heartwarmingly decorated house rather than at a faceless hotel. I will make an excuse to visit Lincoln again, just to stay with these lovely people. Thank you, Ian & Anna (PS: THE COOKIES!!!!!)
The hotel is located 10-15 minutes from Lincoln city centre, easy to find and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are a good size with comfy beds, the restaurant is just a minutes walk from the hotel. The prices to stay are great and would definitely stay again
Evening Meal and breakfast was excellent. Hotel located in a good area of Lincoln to visit the Bailgate Area, Castle, and Cathedral. Staff took ownership of my problems to help resolve, and offered redress without having to request it. Bathroom was clean and modern
Excellent hotel in the old Lincoln Town right by the castle and cathedral with parking, friendly staff, nice lounge area with excellent cocktail bar, comfy clean room, nice tasty breakfast, didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening and so many restaurants nearby.
It was close to the city centre the staff were so friendly upon on arrival and when coming back after a visit to the city and leaving. Hotel was spot on from cleanliness and easy accessible to the room would definitely recommend and 100% comeback
Really beautiful, unique hotel, exceptionally clean and well equipped in the heart of Lincolns Old Town. Fantastic facilities with a really lovely receptionist and really great value for money. Highly recommended!
The location was great. There are about 20 restaurants in walking distance and the hotel is right on the water. The hot breakfast is great with a marina view. The staff is exceptionally friendly.
