Stroud is quite a big town in Gloucestershire and, as such, it has all of the shops and amenities one would expect. Plus, with a taxi rank, train station and frequent bus services to/from Cheltenham and Gloucester, among other places, the town is well connected. I would recommend it as a base from which to explore Gloucestershire.

Vibrant, friendly and historic town full of stylish places to eat and drink, unique gift shops surrounded by beautiful countryside. Local bus service was also very reliable on the Saturday ( well - better than my own at home anyway!). Public toilets in the town were clean and convenient. I was on my own but felt safe even at nighttime. Would recommend the indoor market, Stroud Bookshops, as well as Cornflower and Calico for kitchenware gifts. The Coffee House and Curio Lounge Cafe Bar were great places to visit as well.

Amberley Inn was in a village outside Stroud, the area was very picturesque and plenty to do in the area. The Aboretum at Batsford was exceptional with lovely autumn colour and the Cotswold Villages are a delight.

Stroud is only 2 miles from the home of my childhood & youth 58-74 It the focal point of 5 Valleys all beautiful every season. The whole area is protected, as are the Cotswolds and its a must stay. Well connected by the train and buses with a labyrinth of country lanes and greenery for car travellers. A canal and lots of old industrial history, once a main centre of the SW England WOOL TRADE, it remains rich with villages pubs restaurants, hill top views and lowland vales, many clear for 20 to 30 miles 360 degrees, a paradise to behold

This is a lovely place to visit mainly because of the friendliness of the locals. Everyone I met was helpful and clearly very proud of their town. Loads of independent cafes and coffee houses in the town centre. For a special treat, The Corner House is a great place for a lunch or evening meal. Note that this town sits in a valley surrounded by a number of picturesque but steep hills, so if you are walking out and about, be ready for a climb. Terrific scenery though, so worth it. I was particularly impressed by the number of independent shops of all kinds, especially those selling local artisans' wares. A great centre for all kinds of crafts.

Made a last minute decision to away for the bank holiday and were delighted to find an apartment available. We had apartment 2 on the ground floor at the back of the building. Incredibly spacious and well set out. No view but, on the other hand, absolutely no noise from the road which we were concerned about. Ideally placed for exploring the surrounding area and we picked up 3 great circular walks nearby from the information sent by the owner before our arrival. Also worth a walk along the canal to the town center.

A good looking building and very easy to find, with views over the valleys of Stroud, We stayed two nights in apartment 12 on the top floor it has a comfortable super king size bed and large living room area, the kitchen was well equipped and in all a quiet room. The sofa was comfortable for just two people but the metal folding table and chairs was not what i was expecting from an advertised Superior apartment

The breakfast was more than adequate and the location (i.e. the village of Painswick itself) was absolutely lovely - particularly when taking into consideraton that it is a few miles from Stroud (which is where we had originally intended to stay) - it was a very pleasant surprise for us. Each member of staff was very friendly and accommodating - and seemed to go the extra mile in attending to our needs.

Lovely location for this mini-manor house, on a hill overlooking the Stroud valley. If you can have an 18th century boutique-style hotel, then this is it: a delightful Cotswold gem. Super friendly staff, and excellent food and ambience. Not cheap, but well worth the experience. We were there in winter, but must be even better in summer looking out over that lush Cotswold countryside.

We really liked the apartment, it's very spacious, clean and well presented. Very quirky inside with lots of different levels and rooms, and the two full bathrooms (one with bath and one with shower) were very useful. The Old Fleece pub/restaurant next door, was fantastic. The food was wonderful and the staff so friendly. There are some lovely walks in the area.

The room and pub were both lovely - a traditional English pub set in the heart of Stroud. Ken , the landlord , was extremely nice , welcoming and a joy to talk with . The room was extremely nice - giant single beds, clean , welcoming and cosy , and a great nights sleep was had by myself and my friend . I would highly recommend this lovely pub 😊

Well-situated in a heritage area, close to the town centre, public transport and other local services. Comfortable, warm flat with quiet neighbours, good facilities and pleasing views to the hills and Severn Vale. Particularly liked the canal-themed photos on the walls. Provided a welcoming 'second home' during my stay.
