Breakfast was great. Location was coinvent to shopping and local restaurants. Parking was a little hard. Public car park nearby, but had to get free ticket every hour till 5PM, then free all night. Out the next morning. Small town and able to get our clothes washed in a nearby laundromat.

We were a group of adult women staying in Kirkwall. We had one of the family rooms that worked out really well for us. Shower and amenities were good and perfect location for strolling around beautiful Kirkwall.

The location was good. The food was excellent. The rooms were comfortable. There was a lounge with games, sofas, and a large TV, but we were too busy to take advantage of it. Eric, the host, was very friendly and accommodating. He got us everything we asked for. The water was very soft, so only a small amount of soap or shampoo was needed. It didn't feel like we were intruding in someone's home. It felt more like a mini hotel with a fair amount of privacy for coming and going. Also, we had a ground floor room where we didn't have to drag suitcases up, which is hard being older adults. The stay was very enjoyable.
Kirkwall has everything for a relaxed holiday. Lots to see food is excellent Roads are very good driver behavior is excellent . Local residents are very friendly and helpful.
The Cathedral is fascinating , would have loved to hear the organ being played during the afternoons

A place combining plenty of history of different periods (we went on a fantastic trike trip (https://orkneytriketours.co.uk/) - great experience, visiting the Italian Chapel, standing stones and Scara Brae. The town itself has a 12-century cathedral, historical ruins, and museums, including the wireless communications museum, which was created and is being run by enthusiasts. There are also different daily art groups at Gallery 25 (https://www.facebook.com/Number25Kirkwall/?locale=en_GB) which we enjoyed joining. And the local English is very melodic - it is a pleasure listening to it! I can't say we discovered the fantastic seafood, but there is a lovely shop, The Brig Larder (https://www.jollysoforkney.co.uk/pages/the-brig-larder, one can also order local delicacies to be delivered) - again with lovely staff and a good selection of locally sourced dairy, cheese, seafood and preserves.

Kirkwall is a beautiful little city.
Kirkwall is a beautiful little city. I came for the incredible Neolithic history and to search for family ties in the area. There are many jewelry shops as well as artists studios and tweed or wool shops. The museum is also fantastic. It’s a fibre artist’s dream.

I would not stay at this hotel again out of choice .
I would not stay at this hotel again out of choice . We visited a restaurant out of town for a meal and it was superb. I then read the reviews for this restaurant with rooms which was in a beautiful location with lovely views and they were excellent also far cheaper.
The restaurant was the Foveran and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Also visited the Italian chapel and the site of the discovery of a 3000 year old settlement both of which are a must to see.
I played golf at the Kirkwall golf club very friendly and welcoming although totally self booked with honesty box available .

It is a small, clean quiet town with some good restaurants and things to see like St Magnus Cathedral and the town museum. It is a good base to visit Scapa Flow, Stromness, the various assorted standing stones and the neolithic ruins at Scara Brae - how you do it is up to you but we took a tour, you could hire a car, you could ride bikes. You can hire wheels if one of you needs assistance when walking. But if you want to island hop then consult the local travel centre well in advance as the ferry time tables are tricky - or do it on your first day, And be aware that some places close Saturday and Sunday and not all stay open late - book your restaurants. They seem to stop serving by 9pm so think of eating probably from 6pm to about 8pm. They take bookings. Taxis are easily hired - phone for one - you will need to take a taxi to the Highland Park Distillery and you MUST book your tour there in advance - just turning up doesn't get you in.
From arrival we were met with a friendly lady on reception, unfortunately I can't remember her name but she was very helpful, professional and made us feel welcome. The hotel in general was clean, tidy and had a homely feel. Myself and my partner had a great sleep, comfortable bed and a warm and clean room. We were just a few minutes walk away from everything that we needed. We didn't use the other facilities in the hotel but we definitely will if we return again in the future.
The hosts had a welcome grocery pack, with milk and butter etc. I have to say that due to a ferry cancellation we had to get out of our original accommodation at the end of our stay. Donald and his wife were very helpful at arranging the let at their house. Being in the heart of Kirkwall it is handy for everything. We popped out for evening meals at local restaurants. This holiday let passes the test, we would stay again.
This bed and breakfast is truly exceptional. Everything about it is simply amazing, from the comfortable rooms to the wonderful breakfasts. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly and attentive. The attention to detail in this house is rather incredible. We had a lovely stay and happily recommend it for a very special experience in Kirkwall

Clean, comfortable, nice kitchen, great location — walkable to restaurants, shops, tourist sites. Laundry in the apartment!
When our flight was delayed on checkout day David very kindly let us keep our luggage in the apartment for an extra three hours.
Probably one of the best B&Bs I have ever stayed in. The room was spacious, the bed was soft and comfortable, and the owner prepared us a packed breakfast because we had an early boat. Next time in Kirkwall that's where I'll book again!
Historic, unspoiled. So glad the property has not been ruined by too much modernization. (But we highly approve of modern bathrooms!).
Restaurant exceeded expectations and staff there and in bar just great.
Location in old town. Lovely host. Close to everything. Free pkg. Nice feel. Love Orkney & Kirkwall! Recommend Orcadian Restaurant at Ayre Hotel for scallops & a visit to Skara Brae!! ❤️
Great hotel, helpful staff, good food, excellent access to the centre fo Kirkwall and the inter island ferries. Large clean and comfortable room, very good indeed, would stay here again.
The rooms were large and comfortable. The staff at the nearby Kirkwall Hotel who were running the Shore Hotel were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast at the Kirkwall was excellent.
Great location in Kirkwall. Lovely and clean house with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Great shower, warm and cosy, lovely spacious living space and kitchen/dining space.
Breakfast was good, staff friendly and helpful, as was the owner Andy.
Location was perfect for walking into Kirkwall for dinner and for visiting the island.
