We had a few hours to use before checking in to the Hotel so we went to Walter Scotts Court Room with a very entertaining guide - Julian?
Also went to the museum with equally informative guide - sorry not sure of her name. Both are FREE as is the parking!
Highly recoomend Peony Rose for food.

An interesting looking town that I would like to get to know better. Excellent meals out at the Fleece Inn and Kitchen and at Number One Bistro. The Riding of the Marches was on which showed the community spirit.

Selkirk is a small border town with small individual shops and cafes. We stayed 3 nights at Philipburn Hotel on the edge of Selkirk and really used it as a base to tour around other places in the borders, Floors Castle, Kelso, Melrose, Scotts View.

There's not a lot actually in Selkirk - it is suffering as are so many places with the impact of C-19, but it's a good base for Holy Island and the Roslyn Chapel.
We booked the County Hotel as it's in the centre and as we were travelling by motorcycle wanted to be at somewhere that provided food or was available in walking distance.

Selkirk is perhaps a little over-shadowed by the Peebles,...
Selkirk is perhaps a little over-shadowed by the Peebles, Jedburgh and Kelso within the Scottish Borders and while undoubtedly smaller should not be overlooked. There are a number of museums and Haining Park and Loch, just a few minutes' walk from the town centre, is great for woodland walks and a circuit of pretty Haining Loch. There are a few restaurants, including pub-dining, Chinese and Thai, in the town centre together with a range of take-aways. Selkirk makes a good base for a visit to the Scottish Borders and is a well-located stopping off point for a few days if travelling further north within Scotland and headling south into England.
We had a superb room and ate in the hotel every night, all the meals were perfect and filling, breakfast was equally excellent.
We have stayed in too many hotels to recall but Heatherlie House is exceptional - it is owned by the most wonderful family team who did everything they could to make our stay perfect especially Sonny who help us plan each day in order to get the most of our time.
The hotel is set in the centre of number of Borders towns and is just a few minutes from the town centre
I travel frequently and stay in a huge assortment of properties. While this hotel is still (quite rightly) exercising an abundance of caution regarding COVID-19 precautions it is not open to then general public and therefore the front desk isn't available other than for check-in/check out, so the place does tend to look closed at first sight.
However, the interior, the welcome, the unpretentious hearty food and the service from the staff couldn't be better.
It was a real pleasure to have stayed here for a couple of nights.
To say that we were made very welcome is an understatement.
We so enjoyed our stay at this really lovely hotel where our hosts could not do enough to make our stay memorable. Food was delicious, good selection of refreshments in the bar and the room cosy and very comfortable.
Would highly recommend and will definitely be back soon. Thank you for your hospitality, we had a lovely time.
The breakfast was basic, that did contain a cooked vegetarian option. The staff were very friendly. The formerly historic hotel was positioned centrally for all local amenities. The room was comfortable, well furnished and the ensuite bathroom, compact with a walk in shower. There was parking available on site. The hotel offers bed and breakfast only. All rooms are upstairs. There are plenty of places to eat within the town of Selkirk nearby.
The double room was fresh and clean upon arrival. With unseasonably hot weather, we were glad that fans were available for each room upon request. The rooms were cozy and nicely decorated. The staff were courteous and the breakfast was very good. The private, off-street parking was accessible and spacious. There are a variety of restaurants in Selkirk from which to choose, as well as numerous attractions within easy driving distance.
Absolutely delighted with our stay! The hospitality from Sonny, his wee ma and the team was exceptional. Sonny in particular was so attentive and made it such a warm and welcoming experience. The meals (breakfasts and dinner) were fantastic. The hotel's picturesque location added to the charm, and the hotel itself is lovely. Can't praise it enough, I just hope we manage to return soon ❤️
Stayed in Small King Room with my two dogs. Room very tidy and clean, good, powerful shower. Breakfast delicious and staff extremely nice and helpful. If you are looking for a big, glitzy lobby, then this is not. It is a quaint, old building on the High Street in Selkirk. We had a lovely stay, thank you.
The hotel was very clean and the room was great with fantastic views of the hills. Tried to do some photography in the area but weather not playing ball for me. Just meant more time in bar for food and drink.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Thanks for a great visit. I will return very soon.
Breakfast was an option, but we opted instead to use the communal refrigerator and eat a cold breakfast that we purchased at the nearby market. We were offered the use of the area for dinner if we had wanted to get takeaway. That type of flexibility is nice when you have been traveling for a while.
Spacious rooms, fitted out to a very high standard. A wide selection of books and board games. Fully stocked with kitchenware, bathroom & cleaning products. Spotlessly clean. A lovely quiet area in the countryside, but only a mile from Selkirk. Loved watching the swifts darting around outside.
Everything about the hotel was lovely. It was a beautiful clean room with a lovely view and the breakfast was delicious. You decided the night before from a selection of options what you would like and so everything was just as you wanted the next morning.
The Tushielaw Inn is a traditional inn that has escaped the relentless updating of chain establishments. Don't visit if you want a smart, modern hotel, but if the prospect of an experience evocative of past decades intrigues you, soak it up.
The breakfast was phenomenal and we enjoyed it a lot. The owners of the hotel are very friendly and supportive. We are recommending the hotel and we will join the hotel again when we visit again the scottish borders.
Family run hotel and the nicest family you could wish to meet. Rooms were comfy and we both liked the decor. Great food too. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and no hesitation in recommending Heatherlie House Hotel.
Great breakfast. Thought Selkirk was a little quiet but opportunistically got to shake hands with the King and Queen on their visit so changed our minds!
