You need to book well in advance if you want to watch the Black Cats at the stadium of light! There is a nice railway connection to nearby Seaham if you want to visit. You can walk along the Wear through a sculpture park and the city centre is excellent for cheap food and drink.

Sunderland was good, but if you want 4* service at 4* prices don't go to The Grand. Only pub food and you make your own bed and carry out own room service. REALLY NOT ON. Good point, staff lovely and very helpful

Sunderland is a lovely city with lots of things to see and do. The coast here is beautiful with interesting beaches and walks. The people we spoke to were welcoming and friendly everywhere we went. Food was great, reasonable prices and delicious. Will definitely go back to see more of this lovely part of the country.

    It far exceeded expectations.

It far exceeded expectations. The accommodation was really lovely and to a high specification. We had a fabulous meal out at Antico who fitted us in early when already fully booked and a really nice walk down pier in the evening. Struggled with finding DC chargers for car though :0(

The seafront is beautiful and very clean.

The seafront is beautiful and very clean. It has designated area for dogs to run on. Perfect place for children to play and have fun. There are plenty of cafes/pubs and restaurants. Not forgetting the arcades. Wonderful beach can't recommend it enough. Excellent cafe called the bungalow cafe at Roker end of the beach. Amazing cooked breakfasts and very good prices. Good transport and regular. Sadly the town centre has suffered from covid. Lots of shops are now closed.

Booked this hotel as we were going to football match but also wanted to revisit places from my childhood. It’s 53 years since I’ve been back to Sunderland and staying at this hotel made the trip Excellent value for money, very clean and comfortable Added bonus was the craft beer in the bar. Breakfast was also excellent Would definitely recommend a stay here

Location was good. It's a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre of Sunderland but a drive to the beach area. Depends which one you prefer. The cottage was very nice, clean and comfortable.Very relaxing. meeting up after such a long time it was enjoyable sitting in the comfort of a lounge and catching up rather than in a hotel room or a cafe. Very quiet at night.

Stayed whilst on C2C cycle tour, hotel was very good. They found a room to safely store our bikes. We'd recommend a sea view room, ours was spacious and comfortable. Sunderland's beaches were a really pleasant surprise! We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both were very good and the service was excellent. Would highly recommend the Grand.

Great location in Seaburn, just off the main road so lovely and quiet. Nice and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast cooked to your requirement. Excellent value for money compared to some of the nearby hotels. Lovely walk from Sunderland train station along the river and coastal path to Roker and Seaburn. Beautiful beach.

The hotel is probably the best placed in Sunderland. The Inn / pub below is very nice but tees you up for a bit of a let down once you get to the rooms. Balcony / views are excellent.
