FAQs about hotels in Oban

Gateway to the Inner Hebrides

Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.

The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.

Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.

Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.

As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

    GORGEOUS little port town.

GORGEOUS little port town. Lots of lovely little shops, an interesting war time museum, and excellent food and drink in the numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants. Easy access to travel by bus, ferries, and trains. Walked (some of us VERY SLOWLY!) up the hill to McCaig's Tower and enjoyed the spectacular views; followed by a delicious late lunch at Cuan Mor.

Oban is lovely especially in summer I have been many times over the years and mostly stayed in great Western Hotel with my late husband. This year I travelled in February it was cold and raining but that did not detract in any way from my enjoyment of oban. I love the place

i went at new year hoping to find a ceilidh on somewhere without success i went to the coreyvrecken wotherspoons for my meals which was also first class. what i would avoid on my next visit would be tescos £5.25p breakfasts. i ordered the breakfast with a cup of tea the teapot was out of a dolls house and the cup was like a soup bowl. i also got two slice of toast with butter full cost £8.65p i went back and queried the price and they said it was right. £1.90p for the dolls house teapot £1.50 FOR 2 SLICE OF TOAST WITH BUTTER and £5.25 for the breakfast a total of £8.65 a shear rip off. in wotherspoons i got the same for £7.04p but with a huge mug for your tea and as many refills as you like first class. i tried to see the tescos manager but he wasn't there in this day and age £1.50 for 2 slice of toast a whole loaf only costs £1.30 hope you can take it up with tesco

Oban is the gateway to the islands so lots of ferries operating here and plenty of choices for other places to visit while staying in Oban. There are lots of shops and restaurants within a few minutes walking distance and plenty of fantastic views to be had along the esplanade. All in all a great place to visit.

Beautiful Victorian building right on the waterfront which is always spectacular in Oban. Despite the reviews we booked last minute for a break away just 40 minutes from home and we were not let down. Whilst for the price I do not expect this to be like other hotels we use worldwide but it was clean, comfortable, warm, shower and bathroom were great, parking right outside and we walked into town for dinner, drinks and some live music. Staff were courteous, polite and fun. Did not eat or drink with them but everything else no complaints

Jacqueline and Stuart were welcoming, gracious and had genuine concern for the comfort and well-being of their house guests. We visited during very treacherous weather conditions but they were a calming presence and offered good solid advise for our onward travels. If we visit Oban again we will most definitely stay at the Rose Villa Guest house. Our room was well appointed , very clean , offered instant hot water shower and had all the comforts you would expect in a top notch hotel room. Good job Jacqueline and Stuart !!

Hotel breakfast good and reasonably priced. Room comfortable. Booked sea view and it was worth the little extra. Parking adjacent to hotel. Would recommend The Olive Garden next to the train station for good food and service.....and great sangria. Ganavan Bay is a very nice local beach with parking. Enjoyed Oban and it's a lovely place to stroll around, with a good atmosphere. Plenty going on in the bay.

This is Scotland at its absolute best! The hotel is better than its current Booking.com pics as it has undergone a beautiful refurbishment. The staff were absolutely incredible - very friendly, engaging, professional, immaculate, and attentive. We spent 4 nights here, leaving totally relaxed and pampered. The hotel is about 15 minutes out of Oban, such an easy drive and worth every minute.

Great location on waterfront at harbor. Plenty of on-site parking. Some parking allocated to hotel, other spaces in lot were free overnight, so no problem there. Very convenient to local pubs and restaurants. Nicely sized rooms. All around good location and good stay. Really fun little pub fight across the street - check it out. PLUS, Oban Distillery is right there!

The hotel was perfect for our overnight stay in Oban. Our room faced the water, which was a plus. Wonderful breakfast and dinner included. Both delicious and filling. Enjoyed the sunset in the bar area. Staff made me a perfect cocktail! Wish we could have stayed longer and we would definitely stay at this hotel if we return.

The place is very clean and neat. It’s basically like a big hotel room. The hostess, Carolyn, was super kind and concerned about our needs. Oban is a great little town, with excellent seafood!!!It’s a great place to stop if you want to take a tour to the isle of Iona or Staffa. Would definitely recommend!

Being a premier hotel in Oban it does cost more. The fact that you are just yards from the train, bus and ferry terminal make it a prime location. It does have a spa but I didn't have the spare time to use any of them.
