We were visiting family who live near the hotel and all our family events weddings, funerals and special birthdays have been celebrated in the hotel over many, many years. It is always nerve wracking to come back in case standards have slipped. However although some things have changed we were not disappointed. Staff on reception were fabulous. Friendly and efficient. Room good. Quiet ambiance. (Asian restaurant? Didn’t quite work for us). Bar food well served and tasty.

Diana , the owner , met us on our arrival and showed us around the property. She was very friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast was cereals / bread / toast / preserves etc ,which was self service in a communal kitchen. Great views over the river but sadly the weather wasn't warm enough to use the outdoor area.
An Italian restaurant (Knowledge) is situated on the ground floor of the hotel which was very nice and reasonably priced.

You need to book well in advance if you want to watch the Black Cats at the stadium of light! There is a nice railway connection to nearby Seaham if you want to visit. You can walk along the Wear through a sculpture park and the city centre is excellent for cheap food and drink.

Sunderland was good, but if you want 4* service at 4* prices don't go to The Grand. Only pub food and you make your own bed and carry out own room service. REALLY NOT ON.
Good point, staff lovely and very helpful

The accommodation was really lovely and to a high specification.
We had a fabulous meal out at Antico who fitted us in early when already fully booked and a really nice walk down pier in the evening.
Struggled with finding DC chargers for car though :0(
“Lovely Hotel, made extremely welcome by Diane. Little kitchen available to use and bread and milk to make complementary toast tea and cereals. Room clean and kettle with refreshments. Hotel attached to a fabulous bar/restaurant
'Knowledge' where we had beautiful meal and drinks. The hotel is within walking distance to Sunderland centre with shops and The Stadium of Light for the football. Our second stay, and definitely not our last ❤️”
Location was good. It's a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre of Sunderland but a drive to the beach area. Depends which one you prefer. The cottage was very nice, clean and comfortable.Very relaxing. meeting up after such a long time it was enjoyable sitting in the comfort of a lounge and catching up rather than in a hotel room or a cafe.
Very quiet at night.
Excellent customer service, amazing value for money. Our room was freshly decorated: modern and stylish. The hotel is not on the main road so it is quiet for a great night's sleep. It is within a 5 minute walk to great restaurants, pubs and the never-ending sandy beach. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. Thanks again for a wonderful stay, Aquib.
perfect location! just a few minutes walk from Sunderland empire, where we were seeing a show. I had the best nights sleep the bed was so comfortable and the pillows were perfect. hotel staff were very friendly and the hotel was spotlessly clean. I would definitely choose this hotel again.
The most important thing the staff all were fabulous!!! The hotel itself emaculate l visited in November for a football trip the hotel is across the road from the beach and a summer stay I imagine would be fantastic. The hotel is also placed easily to access Sunderland city centre.
Location. Right on the seafront. Bars and restaurants within walking distance.
Hotel is next door to The Stack.
Free car parking at the rear of the hotel.
Regular bus services into Sunderland and South Shields.
Stadium of Light is about a 40 minute walk.
The rooms, particularly living and dining rooms, kitchen are very spacious. Very convenient for family group. Closely located to access Sunderland city centre and other sight seeing places. Several convenient stores also located at walking distance.
Clean and professional, with toiletries and cuboard staples provided at the outset. Very safe and secure location with easy access to shops and city centre, enjoyed my stay immensely and highly recommend to any travelers in sunderland area.
Breakfast was splendid, Room was clean, tidy and well kept. The host was very hospitable and accommodating. The location of the hotel is great. Its two minutes walk from Roker beach and well connected to Sunderland City Centre by buses
Clean well presented and maintained room. Tea, Toast and cereal available for Breakfast as downstairs is being renovated. I will stay again when I'm back in Sunderland working👍
Room was huge Breakfast was typical English breakfast and included in the price of the room. Staff was excellent and the service very good! I would fully recommend this hotel.
Close to the city centre and much better than a hotel with 4 of us so we had more space that a room. Useful having the kitchen and dining area to chill before we went out
The staff in this hotel are brilliant, from reception desk staff, the restaurant staff during the wedding and the hotel bar staff - everyone was great.
