We were travelling, so unfortunately only one night in Azay but managed to see the amazing chateau. Smaller than some of the others in the Loire but really interesting. Loved the small streets and ate in a great local restaurant. Would definitely come back to this town and hotel. Can’t wait in fact .

A lovely little town that has as its central draw the fabulous chateau. Unlike many French towns which present a grey, shuttered facade to the visitor, this one looks almost like a film set of a quintessential French town - which is not to say that it's tacky, just right. Nice bars and some great restaurants with a couple of Michelin jobs.

this town is a very picturesque and is a great place as a base for anyone looking to travel around Loire Valley. The town has great boulangerie for coffee and pastries. Cute wine / cheese bar and a couple of great restaurants at a reasonable price.

This place was a hidden gem.
This place was a hidden gem. The host Eric was very helpful and the hotel was immaculate. The room was really spacious and had neat old world charm. Quick access to your castles and friendly places to eat.

Lovely little town!
Lovely little town! The chateau far exceeded our expectations, and we took longer to go round than we thought we would, as there was so much to see and admire. Some of the restaurants weren't open in the evening, but the ones we went to didn't disappoint, although the menu at one of them was quite limited, and didn't change from day to day.

A busy little town that is the centre of the tourist industry locally but not overwhelmed with tourists. A really good base for cycling and castles. Some very interesting villages nearby. Nice restaurants.
Located at a roundabout, 1.5 km from the village of Azay-le-Rideau and the castle. It's good to stay here for a day or two. The room has a small fridge and a kettle with tea and coffee; the toilet is separate from a tiny bathroom. Big parking lot. Breakfast was decent (coffee from a vending machine, bread, jam, salami, cheese, butter, eggs, and croissants); a set dinner is also provided, which was fine. Across the street is a shopping centre with a large Carrefour supermarket, an eatery, a pharmacy, and a gas station.
I enjoyed the hospitality of the hosts Jerome and Isabella. Very friendly people trying to make you welcome and happy. I particularly enjoyed the conversations I could have with Jerome. Very nice breakfast with local artisanal products. Perfect location in a beautiful village with famous castle. The place is pretty as well, with dug-out cellars made to extract natural stone for the castle. If I pass by Azay-Le-Rideau would definitely stay here again.
Wonderful, small hotel. Right in the middle of the old town and literally steps from the entrance to the Chateau Azay. Clean, comfortable rooms. The amazing staff was courteous and helpful. They insisted on taking our luggage to our rooms. Great breakfast. Parking was provided in their own garage. This was a great hotel experience and I would highly recommend this hotel to others. A very good value for the money.
Lovely and very helpful couple who own this Chateau. Switched the room we had booked when they realised how unwell my wife was, for one on a lower floor (with no charge for a bigger room as well...very kind).
The Chateau is beautifully decorated and stands in fields outside the nearest town. Peaceful and absolutely idyllic!
The restaurant they recommended in nearby Azay-le-Rideau was astonishingly good.
The little hotel is friendly and up to date. Very clean too. The hosts went out of there way to make us feel at home. We stayed four days and enjoyed the grounds and the locally sourced breakfasts. The owners, Jerome and Isabella, were able and willing to answer our questions about the area and make suggestions to us about the places we were going. I highly recommend a visit to L’Ombre d’Azay!
Lovely Isabell and Jarome. Great, friendly, helpful in any situation. Great, comfortable room, access to a quiet, well-kept garden. Complete relaxation after a day of sightseeing. Excellent breakfasts with local products. It is a pity that the top rating is 10, because the hotel and service deserve much more. Thanks a lot. I sincerely recommend.
It was a disaster!
Nobody there when we arrived, very poky with a dreadful outlook on a dirty courtyard etc. We had to book in to another hotel! Extra expense of course. You should check the 3 stars rating . Really not deserved. A refund might go some way in restoring my faith in your choice of hotels!
Mireille Farrow , an unhappy customer!
A delightful location and a beautifully decorated house. Very comfortable and well proportioned for 4 people with excellent amenities. A short 10 minute walk to the centre of Azay-le-Rideau and very good restaurants. Great base for sightseeing. We will certainly return. Francois and Sophie are lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
On arrival, it was clear that the hotel not only were expecting me, but realised I had stayed before some 3 months earlier - so was greeted with a "welcome back". This is a very powerful greeting, and shows a hotel which values their guests.
Great rooms, pleasing public spaces, lovely design features in this refurbished old hotel.
Fabulous location for an authentic French village. The rooms are spotlessly clean and nice. The private carpark in the rear of Hotel, was an extra bonus (especially in high season). The receptionist is a very helpful, polite, provisional person.
The Hotel is dog friendly, our stay was a pleasure.👍👍👍 . Excellent value for money.
We had a warm welcome on arriving at Hotel Biencourt and we were shown to a lovely room. The furnishings were very tasteful and we were fortunate to have an outside terrace - a real bonus.
Breakfast was a very good continental spread. Our hosts were very helpful regarding the local area and places to dine. Would recommend.
Loved everything about this hotel and seriously considered cancelling the booking we had at other hotels for later nights of our trip so we could stay here longer. The room was beautiful and the atmosphere created by the excellent staff was supremely efficient and relaxing. Really loved it.
Staff is available and very helpful. The hotel is extremely clean, probably freshly renovated. The breakfast is very nice. And of course the location is quite strategic if you want to visit the castle, one stone throw away. A handy closed car park is available for 6€ / night.
Fantastic location close to Azay Le Rideau, lovely property and great welcome. Children really enjoyed the swimming pool and breakfast was something to look forward to every day!
The rooms carved into the rock were very cool and interesting. We arrived by bike and the hotel is very close to the chateau Azay-le-rideau that we wanted to visit;
