Founded by the Phocaeans in 600 B.C., the long history of Marseille has produced an interesting and dynamic port-side city bursting with cultural diversity. Watch the fishermen sell their catch by auction at Vieux Harbor or cruise along the Corniche roads with views of the Calanques, dramatic rocky inlets to the sea.
The le Cours Julien and la Plaine areas provide a trendy hangout and every Thursday and Saturday morning, the Plaine market offers its various wares. If a culture packed vacation is on the agenda, the Musée d'Archéologie Méditerranéenne, Notre Dame de la Garde and Palais Longchamp won’t disappoint. The unique Unité d'Habitation, designed by famous architect Le Corbusier, contains everything from a shopping street to housing and has spectacular views of the terracotta landscape that makes Marseille so distinctive.

In fine weather the port and surrounding esplanade is bursting with activity and colour, people, markets, boats, musicians and beautiful cafes and restaurants. The city bus tour is highly recommended to get a glimpse of the city and surrounding attractions, history, architecture and the spectacular Basilique Notre dam de la Garde that overlooks the city.

Not the safest city in the world, but with a beautiful and diverse architecture, and great things to see. A day and half is pretty enough to visit the whole city on foot, with a boat tour to Parc National des Calanques.

Fantastic city, with beautiful sunny weather.
Fantastic city, with beautiful sunny weather. Prices were reasonable and the locals were all nice to us. The public transportation was great, we could get to everywhere in a short amount of time.
All the sights can be visited during a long weekend.
In winter it is also possible to travel by boat. The life is pretty vivid at the port.

I love the city and ambient, however sometimes it doesn't look safe in the city center where many immigrants live. Unfortunately ugly graffitis spoil almost every building in the city :(
Anyway, perfect public transport, amazing cuisine and architecture are all the best about Marseille

Marseille is an overlooked destination--so much talk of the city being unsafe, dirty, gritty, etc. It is absolutely different than Paris or the other Med cities in France (Nice, Cannes, etc), but that is exactly why we love it. Marseille is older than France and has long been a port city with a mix of cultures--it is often "not French enough" for some, but we love the mix of North African, Arabic, and Mediterranean influences. Food is incredible, views are stunning, 300-plus days of sunshine a year. Yes, there is graffiti/street art--if that's a turn-off, stay away. We love its uniqueness--five days was not enough, we can't wait to get back.

Marseille is an eclectic and interesting city.
Marseille is an eclectic and interesting city. You hear different languages all day on the street. The old port is quaint and always bustling with people. As you go through the narrow streets, there is always something to see.
I particularly liked Ile de Frioul, which is a 20-minute boat ride away. It's a rocky island with fantastic views of the deep blue sea. Unfortunately, I could not see the Chateau d'If because of weather conditions.
The Museum of Marseille Soap was quite small and not worth the money, in my opinion, but the gift shop right next to it is worth a visit - the soaps are high quality and they smell absolutely fantastic! I regret buying only one soap because I only had a very small bag with me.
The apartment is beautiful in a great location. It has the first true king size bed in our travels in France, a quite comfortable one at that. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked. The wash machine was a surprise bonus. We were there two nights the first week of the rioting this summer and the apartment was a fairly quiet haven of peace as loud mobs, breaking glass, police sirens and helicopters roiled around us during the night. The wifi worked quite well. If we ever return to Marseille, we'd love to stay again.
The Staff are lovely and the Housekeeping is excellent. Reception gave us local advice, sold us bus tickets, organised a taxi and, generally, made us feel very welcome. Well done, the whole Team.
The hotel couldn't be in a better position for a visit to Marseille. It's one street away from the quayside of the Vieux Port and only yards from the Metro/ buses/taxes.The air-conditioning was silent, efficient and extremely welcome , the linen and towels are good and we appreciated the hospitality tray.
I chose the hotel mainly for the central location. I knew that I will be out also during the night and Marseille is not the safest place in France. Let's start with the positive things:
Staff was friendly, internet wifi was working well and the best thing was the breakfast. I was quite surprised that they even offered fresh pressed orange juice. The choice was really good for the level of the hotel!
The location was perfect: near the vieux port, in a walking distance from the metro and the tram stations. Monoprix is also in a walking distance.
The host, madame Solega, is very kind and helpful. She gave us several advices for things to do around Marseille. Plus, she was very responsive to our messages during the stay, even late at night and we thank her for that.
Top class staff. Reception at all times of day and night exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Great location right by the Vieux Port.
Comfortable room with good aircon and shower.
Would certainly stay here again without hesitation.
Really easy to get to. From Nice Charles Station take the M1 metro. Just a couple of stops to take and very short walk on to the hotel.
The hotel is perfectly situated, being only a 5 minute walk from Vieux Port. It is a quiet oasis with a wonderful Spa/pool area and large, modern and well equipped rooms. The staff are what makes this hotel special. Mathieu and the team were extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet boutique hotel close to the town.
Location 10/10
Few monutes walk to metro stations ( Notre Dame, and Estrangin ) , Tram T3 Line and buses Lines
10 minutes walk to Vieux Port
Staff were helpful, they accepted my early check-in/ late Check-out request, and changed/upgraded my room after a minor complaint.
Good Quality/Price services , you get what you pay for
The apartment was spacious, clean, comfortable and well-equipped. Location was great, a couple of blocks from the Vieux Port with lots of restaurants and bars nearby, and 2 minutes’ walk from the metro station so very east to reach from Gare Saint Charles. Alexandre was very helpful and responded quickly to our questions.
We stayed a long weekend in Marseille and the appartement was a great choice. It’s in a nice neighborhood, very practical with Cafes and Supermarkets around.
You can walk easily everywhere, to the Vieux port just 15min.
Communication with Xavier was great and the easy Check-in and Check-out as well.
Great stay in the heart of Marseille, few minute walk away from the Vieux Port.
Arrived very late, but there were still someone to welcome at arrival, and to make sure we got all that we need to have a pleasant stay.
Room is comfortable, and have everything we need for a quick stay.
Lovely hotel in a prime location at the Vieux Port. Rooftop pool which was very refreshing after sightseeing! The room was large and comfortable and we had a wonderful view of Vieux Port. Very accessible to all attractions. Loved Marseilles and would definitely return to this hotel.
Beautiful, grand hotel in the heart of Vieux Port. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Great for my toddler to run around and play. Great for family gathering. Excellent service. Excellent breakfast. Everything about the stay was perfect! I would highly recommend this hotel.
Traveling in the 70’s, I would look for these 0 star hotels in France for $8 and was surprised to find one still existed but with inflation $40 was not too much to pay. The owner was friendly, the room nice with 10 ft ceiling and attached bathroom.
Friendoy and helpful staff who answered all of my questions with clear directions.
The breakfast is the best I've ever had in a hotel in this price range. I will recommend this to anyone who comes to the Vieux Porte area.
Ben from reception was very friendly and welcoming and all other staff where nice. The hotel in the Vieux Port area of Marseille right near the entrance to the metro so very easy to get to. comfortable room.
The location is great, right at the Vieux Port of Marseille. The apartment has all the facilities you ever need from a home away from home and the host is kind. I would love to come back again
We enjoyed everything, as usual. This is one of the best hotels in Marseille: clean, comfortable, easily accessible, with a good breakfast and close to the beach. The best choice in Marseille!
