A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.
Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the center and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.
Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping center. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.
Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.
Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If traveling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.
I enjoyed Lille. But, as is often the case in France , a lot of restaurants /bars and places of interest were closed on Mondays. So I really wish I had gone home on Sunday. I felt two days was ample to see what Lille has to offer.

Lille is a beautiful town.
Lille is a beautiful town. You have not many things to see so it's ok to visit it for 2 days. Not more. The metro is too fast and frequent ( every 0.5 minute) so the movement is too easy. It was good choice.

Lots to do in Lille.
Lots to do in Lille. It's well worth visiting the Anselm Kiefer exhibition which is on at the LaM at the moment if you like modern art. It' s a little way out of Lille, but less than an hour on tube and bus. A cafe recommendation is Paddo on Rue du Cirque - wonderful coffee, cakes brunches and music!

Very pretty old town, lively markets and some atmospheric bars and restaurants. I recommend Le Petit Cour for fancy dining and La Popote (open lunch time only ) for real French atmospheric bistro and great food - both in Wazemmes area. Got around using the Metro which is easy to use or on foot .
Right in the center of Lille. The interior design is really colorful and - again - individual. Reception staff really listened to customers and had mandate to take decisions and resolve potential issues.
Most of regular breakfasts are run-of-the-mill but in the Adagio it was really exceptional. A little expensive, but an individual experience rather than a massive regular buffet.
The only reason I did not rate everything as 'excellent' is to avoid the accusation of exaggeration.
This is a terrible hotel with rude, unhelpful and disrespectful staff members. They charged us twice for our room and refused to give us a refund even though it was due to the fault of an incompetent member of staff who could not speak or understand English. Also, we would not recommend this hotel as it is within the ‘red light district’ of Lille and on many occasions we passed ladies of the night on our walk home from the city centre.
The apartment was new, big and comfortable. The indoor pool was fantastic for my young daughter. Being a residents building for older people, it was very quiet. Easy for self catering from the nearby supermarket or Wazemmes market, and just a few minutes walk from the Metro to get into Lille old town quickly. The staff were very sweet and tried to help us whenever needed, despite our poor French.
The location of this hotel is perfect for travellers using Eurostar. It is a short walk into the centre of Lille although possibly too long a walk if you have mobility issues.
The best thing about the hotel was the level of customer service from the staff. Every member of staff that we interacted with had excellent English and did everything they could to deal with our questions and issues.
We traveled on a budget for business and needed a place with parking outside of the city center. We didn't spend too much time on the premises but our room was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. Best part of the stay was after a long day, being able to hang in the back patio, eating the delicious pizza made on site and drinking a local beer.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good English spoken. Parking can be booked in advance or (if available) on the day. In addition to the standard continental breakfast they also served bacon and scrambled egg, which was a nice addition.
The hotel is in comfortable walking distance to the centre of Lille, and has a tram stop immediately outside.
Very Comfortable Room ... Breakfast was usual continental .. Location was PERFECT.. Right on the edge of the Braderie de la Lille with stalls outside the front door. City Centre just a very short walk. We arrived at hotel as planned just before the roads were being closed for the Braderie and was able to use the Hotel Car Park ,
Fabulous stay in the beautiful city of Lille. Chris was the perfect host providing us with all the information we needed to enjoy our stay in Lille. Accommodation was outstanding (best we've stayed in during our travels in France - yes it was that good). Stop reading this review and start booking your stay here.
Friendly and helpful staff. We booked two adjacent rooms, which have a door on each side so both rooms can decide to block the passage. Convenient with (6 & 9y) kids! Great location, just behind the opera and with parking garage in front of the hotel. Breakfast is very modern and plenty of choice.
The receptionists at the hotel were great, very friendly and helpful! Gave us great insights to the best places for food in Lille. The hotel was very well situated in the centre of the city and offered secured parking for 30 euro a night, just a 2 minute walk away. Would stay again :)
The rooms are small, but oh so clean and comfortable. Location is less than 10 min walk to Euro Lille and within walking distance to the old town and cool restaurants and places to explore in Lille. The bed were very comfy and air conditioning was not loud.
The hotel is in the city centre. You can walk to every sight of the Lille. The place itself like 3 mins away from the railway station. Everything was very good, I like visiting Grand Hotel Lille, and next time I go to Lille, I’ll stay in the hotel
The location was excellent. Near to metro station as well as train station. The hotel was located Westfield Euralille building, so was easy to find a place for dining and shopping nearby. Mini refrigerator was very useful. Staffs were friendly.
Great location just opposite Gare de Lille Flandres and just a short walk to city centre. We stayed in an apartment which was small and cosy but had everything we needed for one night. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
Great location to explore Lille. Right across street from train station. I was a bit skeptical booking a hotel so close to train station as area is sometimes sketchy. Not in this case. Room was clean, quiet and comfortable.
Funky hotel in a stunning historic building. Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff. In a quiet corner of Lille a 10 minute pleasant stroll to the centre. Great local bar on the corner opposite the hotel.
Comfortable hotel in the very centre of a lively Flemish city. Lille was a positive surprise as a French city with so many Flemish characteristics. All shopping possibilities and monuments nearby.
The hotel is in a fabulous location to explore the centre of Lille. The beds were comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the reception area was a great place to relax.
One of the best locations in Lille after so many times there. And definitely welcoming people, you can ask for everything, with so many smiles and jokes
