This is a charming small town in a region which begs...
This is a charming small town in a region which begs exploration. The inventor or the bicycle came from here; markets and quality shops abound alongside the river and canal shoulder to shoulder with some really impressive historical buildings and beautifully preserved traditional houses. Bustling, yet relaxing at the same time. Good food is available in a whole range of restaurants and less formal eateries and, of course the Champagne region is right 'next door'.

Another note for our stay at Ibis, Bar le Duc. We were so appreciative that each time a guest walked into the breakfast room the concierge supplied freshly warmed croissants. It was a very nice touch.

The old town up the hill is very nice.
The old town up the hill is very nice. The Italian across the road from Studio Martelot was really good for take-aways and the staff were friendly. Rue Martelot is very central and ideal for public transport.

We were pleased with our room (112) and the Matisse poster on the wall. The room was simply furnished, but we had everything needful, and the bathroom was above expectations. Dinner, though, was absolutely excellent, and way better than one might expect from the rather dowdy outside of the place.
