Bandama Golf Hotel, hotel in Valsequillo

Set in a protected reserve, this hotel is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and is the ideal place for a golfing holiday.

The room is very simle but nice. Everyrhing is as you'd expect it to be in a hotel. The hotel itself was very clean and the shower provided plenty of water. There's a Pool as well although no one really used it. The view and outdoor location is absolutely breathtaking. You're next to the path down to the caldera as well as a small hill you can walk up to for an equally spectacular view. Very peaceful. The girl working at the desk in Las Palmas was super helpful and friendly even though she wasn't there in person. There is free coffee and water which I really appreciated.

The town is small and has little to offer but the area is fabulous. Roads are hairy, especially for an Englishman! Restaurants are fabulous (Asador Grill Casa Brito and Casa Mario in Telde). Surrounding volcanic scenery is amazing! Roque Nublo, Roque Bentayga and La Caldera de Bandama especially. Whale & Dolphin watching trips are a gamble! We saw nothing but had an enjoyable (if a bit rough!) boat trip along the coast.

Casa Teresa is a nice house in an urban development.

Casa Teresa is a nice house in an urban development. The interior furnishings are very good, but it is starting to show signs of wear and tear. The ground floor is actually a basement which has to be lit all the time due to the lack of sunlight. This is especially true for the room with two beds. The room upstairs is very nice. The second room upstairs, which would be better than the one downstairs, is unfortunately not for rent. During our stay, renovations were underway in the house next door with lots of noise and dust, which we were not warned about in advance. During the second half of our stay (2 weeks in total), a number of tiny ants emerged and relentlessly invaded the kitchen area. The second part of the staircase to the terrace is very dangerous. Here the owner should provide contrasting markings on the edges of the stairs. Without this marking, it is very dangerous to walk down in low light. The overall impression is contradictory despite the cleanliness of the house on the one hand but for the defects mentioned and also for the owner's efforts to downplay the problems.

Valsequillo has no big hotels and is off the tourist trail, meaning you rarely hear anything other then Spanish spoken. The locals are friendly folk and there is a tourist information office with lots of local history displays and free maps of local walks and historical sites around the island. Valsequillo has a range of bars, shops and services providing everything you might need as well as several good restaurants, and is the start/end for several good walks. It is a great base for exploring the island if, like us, you don't like big resorts or noisy towns.
