Cartagena is a beautiful city with stunning architecture, a lovely waterfront, charming squares surrounded by restaurants, and wonderful Roman ruins to see. We would definitely return for a longer stay, as we were only there one night.

Cartagena is a beautiful, small city- not crowded like the other cities we visited. Beautiful architecture along with Roman ruins, especially the amphitheater. Didn’t get to fully explore it, because I was sick one day. Worth a repeat visit.

If you are interested in history there is lots to see in this area, The Roman Ampitheatre, The Underwater Archaeology museum, Drive out from Cartegena on the minor roads in to the hills to discover lots of industrial archaeology. Take a boat trip round the harbour. Discover Aledo a hilltop town. Eating out can be cheap if you eat the menu de dia or a feast if you order off the main menus.

I spent 16 nights in Cartagena because I ran out of money during my backpacking trip in Europe and this was one of the cheapest places to stay in Spain.
Cartagena is a naval port town dotted with ancient ruins, medieval batteries, and beautiful mediterranean foliage. You can spend your time relaxing at la playa, hiking in the national park, having beers at hole-in-the-wall bars, and people-watching with your tostada de tomate in the late morning. The people are friendly and the street cats are adorable. It’s very walkable but there is an extensive bus service as well. It’s maybe not the most amazing coastal spot in Spain but if you’re broke, Cartagena is a lovely town to spend your time in.
Favourite hike: Mt Roldán
Favourite breakfast/coffee spot: Cafés Céldran
Favourite activities: the tourist boat (only 6€!), the Roman Theatre, and the Municipal Archaeological Museum

Cartagena is a lovely city.
Cartagena is a lovely city. Loads of things to see, museums, Roman ruins and more modern sights like the Civil War air raid shelter near to the castle.
The centre of the city is lovely with lots of places to eat and drink at not very expensive prices. The tapas choice is brilliant and offered by every restaurant. It's easy to walk around the town and you don't need a car. The open top Tourist bus is a good way to see the city, so well worth the hour round trip.
We'd definitely make another visit.

Great little city for a two/three night stay (maximum).
Great little city for a two/three night stay (maximum). Lots of history in the Roman teatro, the castle and the naval museums. Nice traffic free city centre with plenty of choice of restaurants and bars, Friendly and safe.
Beautiful location, and convenient for the sights of Cartagena. The apartment has an appealing historical feel, and stretches about 20 metres backwards away from the street: see later for why this is important. There is a large kitchen-dining area, and an internal courtyard. Self-catering is easy. It is good to have parking available (at €10 per night not very far from the property). You can play corridor cricket, but this works best for those wishing to practice leg breaks, and their defence. Good luck with that, Googlie Translate.
Clean and cheap. I should have booked a bigger room. We drove there from Granada. It was easy to find and easy to park at the property for free. If you're on a strict budget and just want somewhere to shower (modern small bathroom) and sleep then the a Manolo would be fine. Good quiet air-conditioned. The staff were wonderful and helpful with maps and things we should see. We loved Cartagena.
Beautiful view and localization, unforgettable experience. Exquisite space on the rooftop with sunbathing chairs, large table and barbecue grill. Roomy, comfortable and absolutely fully equipped apartment. Chilly and quiet area with empty, wonderful beach. Good starting point to dive into Spanish culture and history. Excellent local food. Best place to slow down and take a deep breath :)
Location - very close to the bus station, train station and not far from the port and shops. The staff was extremely helpful. The bathroom was big enough, a good wardrobe. The check-out was at 12 which is comfortable. I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. It was not included, so it's not so cheap 9 euros, but it was enough food and comfortable to eat in the hotel.
The hotel interior has definitely seen better days (as in faded carpet in the halls, dated/worn furnishings in the room), but the location, staff, value, and breakfast made up for any shortcomings, as far as we were concerned. Everyone who works there was kind and helpful — we'd go back, I'd say.
The staff were kind. It was a modest room. A bit antiquated but nothing out of the ordinary. It was exactly as expected. A cheaper end pension, which was clean and served our purpose for a one night stay perfectly.
Cartagena is beautiful. There are magnificent Roman remnants. One can enjoy the view of the city and the sea from a splendid park above the town. The city has special and romantic atmosphere. The hotel was nice.
Everything: the room was clean, big and the hostel super well equipped with everything you need. Also, it is close to the city center and convenient to visit Cartagena.
The rooftop has an amazing view.
We could walk around the whole of lovely, pedestrian-friendly Cartagena easily from the hotel. There's a public car park nearby (Parking del Rey) which costs 16 euros with the hotel's discount voucher.
