The room was fine for the price. The staff all friendly and helpful, offering recommendations when asked. Location - right near the Malecón 2000 (boardwalk and park), Simón Bolívar Blvd shopping street, and a station for the AeroVia (cable car ride). Had read about lack of public safety in Guyaquil, but but as a solo-traveling white male (ie obviously a tourist, possible mark) I felt safe walking around during daylight as there were families with kids on the main street and in the park. Note that the safety situation is currently in flux, so do check gov't travel advisories.

Currently, other than very specific areas, the vibe is not good. Security, soldiers and police abundant; and, lots of guns visible. Bars on EVERY storefront. Most stores you cannot enter; you ask for what you need and pay through the bars. And, with a curfew in effect, it’s weird to see absolutely empty streets when there are 3.2 million people living in the city! 😳

A beautiful, safe and welcoming city.
A beautiful, safe and welcoming city. People are nice and polite, the prices at restaurants are just fine and the transportation is easy to use and economic. Malecon 2000 was a really nice tour. Also you can find many gastronomic options and delicious dishes. We would definitely back there

It's a nice town!
It's a nice town! It's so nice to walk along the Malecón where you can find some cafes, children´s playground, parks, and the ferriswheel. I appreciate the free (and clean) bathrooms (though you have to pay a few cents for toilet paper - if the dispenser is not running out of it) and free power supplies to recharge your phone all over the place! (bring your charger) I arrived in Guayaquil at around 2 pm on a Friday and left at 7 pm on a Monday, so I had about 4 days, which I think a bit too long. I could have left on Sunday instead. Overall I felt safe but I do take precautions, keep my backpack in front of me, never put it down in public places, etc. El Cerro de Santa Ana is nice. There are only 440 steps to get to the Lighthouse las Peñas, which is cute. You can see some free roaming iguanas at el parque Seminario in front of the Cathedral. It has a small pond full of fish and turtle, some are endangered kinds. It´s quite entertaining. The park is not big though and it´s full of vendors selling stuff. Be careful, do not stand under a tree, you might get ´rained on´ by iguanas perching on a branch above you. I also walked around Malecón Salado but it was deserted (sad). I also visited Isla Santay. A long walk from the city crossing a pedestrian bridge to go over to the island then another 1.7 km boardwalk to arrive to the village. Not much to see there and the boardwalk is in a dire need of repair. There are lots of holes caused by damaged, broken woods so cycling is not recommended. I booked a tour to see bottled nose dolphins but was cancelled due to low number of participants.

I enjoyed my time.
I enjoyed my time. I was only on foot, so there are a few things I may have missed without traveling by car that I will visit next time.
I felt safe walking alone. I enjoyed the live music along the water (the water is not an attraction).

We went for a wedding, so we did not explore Guayaquil as much as we would have liked. We did the city bus tour for $8.00, went to the iguana park, Mall del sol and got on the teleferico Wish we could have gone up the 400 steps!
This place is everything you need an nothing you don't. SUPER CLEAN! Very nice staff. Crazy close to the airport and bus station (a cab ride is just a few minutes and less than $5)
No frills, but just fine if you are in town for a stopover. We fly between the US and ecuador often, but used to usually go through Quito. Stying the night in Quito was always a pain, so this might be our new spot!
The Grand hotel Guayaquil is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Guayaquil. The staff is very well trained and very helpful. The room was nice and clean. The pool and facilities are excellent. Breakfast was rich, abundant and tasty and the restaurant serves good food. It is located right behind the cathedral and just a couple of blocks from the Malecon. The bar was also nice for an evening drink.
we had a long layover at Guayaquil on our way back from Galapagos. this place was perfect to drop our bags, do some sightseeing, take a shower and head back to the airport., Very clean and great location within a minutes walk to La perla/Malecon 2000, Las Penas, aerial tram etc. easy access from airport ($6 ride). Family owned and very friendly/helpful people.
we returned to the hotel after our 3 week road trip. At that time, We had asked, if we could watch the Super Bowl on Jan 12 in the hotel, and they delivered!!! We could watch in Spanish in the restaurant and in English in our room. Transport to/ from airport worked fine, when he had to return our rental car. Breakfast good.
The hotel is an old Guayaquilean House converted into a hotel in a proper way. The facilities are exactly as in the pictures. Urdesa is a good location to stay in case you need to move around Guayaquil. The staff is very kind and the treatment is like in a home. They are always willing to help you with your requests.
Location is great. Close to everything what I wanted to see.. Staff is very helpful and gave me all information I needed and also helped with airport transfer. Breakfast was very nice and their restaurant where I ate dinner do amazing job, had super tasty Ecuadorian style lentil burger with great view
breakfast is very good and meet my expectation. the hotel need renovation as it seems a old a little but it's not bad. In Ecuador we can consider it one of the best hotel to stay in. But in the international level specially for five stars it's away far specially if we compare it with Dubai, Singapore
The hotel is lovely and great value. The location is excellent but the real highlight was Johanna and the rest of the staff. They are extremely lovely and helpful and they go out of their way to make sure the guests enjoy their stay. The next time I'm in Guayaquil, I'll definitely stay here again.
First time i have felt SAFE to leave a Hotel here.
Historic quaint SAFE neighborhood, the staff was great, Iker went above and beyond to make us feel at home:)) The room was great and very big, stong Wi-Fi ,excellent breakfast. By far the best hotel I have stayed in Guayaquil
Friendly staff, all time ready to do anything, wonderful pool, excellent location, near shopping, markets restaurants etc, they call chap taxi to go to the airport, we are very impressed, thanks to Roberto and all great staff, and we loved the friendly people of Ecuador
Excellent hotel. Extremely clean and very safe. Very nice restaurant. Located beside a large modern shopping mall - with ATMs inside . Excellent option especially for foreign tourists transiting to the Galapagos. Airport pickup essential .
The airport shuttle was easy to catch -- the driver was very accommodating. Check-in was easy. Bed was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was ample. The hotel is a few minutes from the airport, a block or so to the Mall del Sol.
I had a long day of traveling and arrived at the hotel almost at midnight, check in was easy and fast, everyone was very friendly and the next day the airport shuttle was on time. Excellent service.
Close to the airport, staff was friendly, fast, helpful. Hotel interior room decor was modern, practical, clean and beautiful. Breakfast had a variety of good food. Pool area was nice and relaxing.
Exceptional staff!!!
Very close to the airport. That is essential in Guayaquil.
This is not a normal holiday Inn. It’s far better than that.
The food is excellent. Best hotel food we’ve ever had.
Clean place and friendly people! Perfect location, nice and quiet. Within walking distance of the airport and mall. AC was much appreciated in Guayaquil. Food is good. Wifi is strong.
Very nice and well situated business/airport hotel. The Security Guard and our Driver to the airport is an awesome dude! Very helpful and pleasant to talk with.
