Due to current political issues in Ecuador, we were a little apprehensive about making the trip. However, only minutes after we landed in Quito we fell in love. The airport is amazingly clean and has all the amenities you would want. Quito, the La Carolina area, was extremely clean and very secure. The shopping was fantastic and there were tons of restaurants to choose from. All that said, we were most surprised by how reasonably priced everything was.
Also, a lot of bars do not take credit cards. Ecuador uses the American dollar, so have some on hand so you don't have an awkward experience.
We would definitely make the trip again.

We were just there one night to experience the city having spent a few nights in the mountains near Pifo.
Loved the crazy city - beautiful architecture. Lots of security/police presence which made it feel safe. My partner was unwell so I explored the city solo - I was approached by a policeman who gave me a map and ensured I was safe/aware of where to walk etc.
It is easy to travel by foot. I would have liked longer but feel 2-3 nights would have been plenty.

We stayed 2 nights in Quito.
We stayed 2 nights in Quito. We had one full day in Quito, which was not enough. We happened to be there during Carnivale. We took a cab to the Basilica and then walked to Independance square to observe the celebration. Later we had a great meal in the nearby hall.

I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito.
I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito. A pickpocket stole my wallet and I lost USD 200. The police didn't seem to care and most couldn't speak English. Every single day I was harassed by beggars, some of whom were very aggressive. I didn't feel safe in Quito and became paranoid. I couldn't wait to leave. I would NEVER return to Ecuador and probably not any other country in South America. There is a nationwide state of emergency now, and it's very dangerous. I advise my fellow Americans to avoid Ecuador like the plague unless you go straight to the Galapagos Islands. Ecuador is by far the worst country I've ever been to and I've traveled all over the world.

It's an old city, with lots of history and historical buildings. Many museums, often free. The surrounding mountains are beautiful and the climate is excellent.
Most of the people I met were friendly and willing to help a confused stranger. There are some beggars, and some unsavory areas, as with any sizable city.
I highly recommend visiting Wikiri Sapoparque if you're an animal lover. It's a great and unique experience.
This bed and breakfast is located in the historic old town of Quito, 5 minutes walk to the Grand Plaza, the Presidential Palace, etc. The room we had was on the top floor; it was spacious and private. There are two sitting areas with gorgeous views of the city. Breakfast includes eggs as well as fresh fruit, cheese, and a selection of cereals and yogurt. The staff was exceptional, especially Enrique. They helped us with getting taxis, directing us to sights and restaurants and were just all-around helpful and friendly.
The family that runs the place is kind and understanding. I was planning on doing a few different activities in Ecuador so I was in and out a few different times to Quito. There was no issue with storing a bag there or being flexible with dates. The atmosphere is great with great staff as well. The garden area is such a great refuge to return back to after exploring the busy city. I’m grateful for the time I spent there and I will not stay anywhere else next time I am in Quito. Thank you.
This was our 3rd stay at this hotel, during our trip to Ecuador. We stayed here on arrival in Quito (from UK) and enjoyed the hotel so much, that we booked again after flying back the Galapagos, and finally, after touring Ecuador, prior to flying home. Veronica, who managed the hotel during our visit, was helpful and friendly. Both of rooms we stayed in, were lovely, clean, comfortable and spacious. Close to all shops, market and eateries. Great secure parking and a good breakfast.
Excellent hotel, the staff greeted us and were very accommodating even though we arrived very late. We couldn't get up to the hotel at first because of a road closure so went for dinner and came back. The staff upgraded our room because of the inconvenience getting to the hotel and that was totally unaccepted and very much appreciated. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic and the view over Quito was spectacular.
Very cozy hotel! We had a room on the 2d floor. It was big, clean and looked authentic. Hot water was always available. They serve classic to Ecuador breakfast (omelette, toasts with jam, fruits, fresh juice, coffee). The hosts are friendly and helpful, one of them, Darwin, speaks English. The hotel is located at the one of the most beautiful street in Quito, very green, safe, quite and close to the bars
We had a lovely welcoming when arrived. The room was above expectations and the staff made it up everyday which was lovely. The staff were superb and helped us with any questions and possible places for us to go see. We will be returning to Quito once weve travelled around ecuador and most definitely would love to stay again here.
exceptional value. the staff was wonderful and kind and they made sure everything was perfect for us. they allowed our kids to play with their dogs and brought us a yummy warm drink for our family. it’s well placed in Quito Old Town. there was some street noise but it was manageable. I would stay here again!
Wonderful old hotel, originally a manor house. Fantastic staff, well maintained, lots of interesting stuff to look at everywhere, a great breakfast. A 1 minute walk from La Ronda, 8 minutes from the Plaza Grande. The perfect place to stay in Quito. Our room and bed were huge. Great value for money.
We really liked the fact that the location was within walking distance of all the main sites in Old Town as well as many restaurants and cafes. We also enjoyed the breakfast, especially the tastes of Ecuador. ZFinalky we were very happy with tge hospitality and friendliness of all the staff
Please first read "Don't like":
After booking.com contacted the manager, the room boy and the manager excused themselves for the behaviour of the room boy.
Just by insisting to receive a factura we received it.
Ecuador is a poor country. Making black money won't help Ecuadorian society!
Breakfast was one of the best we have had in south america! It was perfect location in the old town. Staff were super helpful with our plans in Quito and the rest of Ecuador. Rooms were spacious and clean and the shower was hot We loved our stay and would reccomend!
Super trendy home Service, super Homemade including breckfast, very nice open terrace for yoga or make open kamin fire with city quito view ,
Central and quite , very nice ecuador room design , very frendly owner , super price all together top 10😁👍
The security measures at the hotel were appreciated given we were staying during a busy festival time. They helped carry our bags and navigate us through busy streets to our driver. The location and ability to explore Old Town were great.
The proprietors of this family owned hotel were incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, my room was comfortable and the location was very convenient for sightseeing in the old town.
The staff is friendly and very helpful. The terrace view is amazing, I spent great time there. Room was little bit cold, breakfast was yummy, and definitely recommend this hotel for your Ecuador trip.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They assisted us with a lot of things, such as safety precautions in Quito, transport options, ecuadorian telephone number/mobile internet and so on.
Feeling at home is the most important thing for us while we are traveling, Old Town Quito Suites met all our expectations of a very cosy place where we felt safe and comfortable at any time.
This is one of the best hotels in Quito. It has very clean rooms and friendly staff. I have been to other hotels in Ecuador but I give this Wyndham the highest rating: excellent.
The views and the finishes in the hotel are stunning. The restaurant is very good and the complimentary breakfast was delicious, one of the best we have had in Ecuador.
