Regensburg’s cobbled streets, colorful façades and step gables constitute Germany’s best-preserved medieval center. A 12th-century stone bridge crosses the Danube River between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town and islands forming the Stadtamhof district.
Regensburg was an important trading center and its wealthy merchants built tall towers, like the Goldener Turm, to outdo each other. The dual spires of its Gothic cathedral tower over red roofs sheltering sidewalk cafes, traditional bierkellers and modern bars.
Niedermünster abbey also has square towers, while the Alte Kapelle’s most impressive feature is intricate gold interior detailing. Nearby Neupfarrplatz houses the annual Christmas markets, while the old town hall is on Kohlenmarkt. Just down the street, a large David and Goliath mural adorns a house.
A plaque outside a more modest house marks Oskar Schindler’s former home. Much grander is Schloss Thurn und Taxis, an 8th-century monastery converted to a noble residence. At the eastern end of a park encircling the historic center, there's a villa built for King Maximilian II of Bavaria. It overlooks riverboats cruising past a more outlandish royal creation, Donaustauf’s Walhalla monument, resembling a Greek temple.
Booking.com has a great range of Regensburg accommodations including 4-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guesthouses near the train station.
We loved Regensburg. It is a beautiful, quite city with friendly people, great food, and reasonable amount of traffic. Our visit was very plesant. Nothing went wrong. Dining in the restaurant and shopping in the supermarket are both quite cheap.

I travelled to Regensburg every month for 15 years working and never tired of the city. We still visit every December to meet old friends and enjoy the Christmas ambience.
Plenty of traditional Bavarian restaurants - my favourites being Hacker Pschorr and Dicker Mann - but lots of modern places as well
A beautiful old city centre - exactly how you would envisage a traditional Bavarian city. Not to be missed

Regensburg is a wonderful medieval town.
Regensburg is a wonderful medieval town. The entire old town is easily walkable and there are so many ancient homes/buildings to see. Get a local guide so you don’t walk right past something incredible without realizing.

Beautiful old town, compact, easy to walk everywhere.
Beautiful old town, compact, easy to walk everywhere. Nice restaurants and cafes with great views. There are almost no cars in the old town and it makes it a good experience. The city has a very interesting history. Little shops with all kinds of things. Well worth a nice weekend.
Had very good dinner at Al Camino pizzeria+Peppers mexican- those two places make one restaurant on Haidplatz - and they have tasty tank beer!
We took a 45 min tour via the electric train (leaving every hour from the Domplatz at the cathedtral. The audio guide (in 6 languages) was informativre and fun.
We hadn't visited Regensburg before, so didn't quite know what to expect. We were very happily surprised to find ourselves staying at this charming hotel, in a large bedroom in the 14th century house. It was like visiting a well-maintained medieval manor house, yet being permitted to stay there as guests. And right in the heart of the beautiful old town too, wonderful.
Everything about this stay was exceptional, from the smile on our breakfast eggs to the friendliness and care of the staff. Highly recommended.
Amazing! Highly recommended! As soon as we arrived we were offered a free drink! The hotel is in the heart of Regensburg, and it's easy to access all the attractions from the hotel. The location of Hotel Sorat on the Isle is perfect. And such a close walk across the old bridge to the heart of the Altstadt. The room was large and light-filled, the view across the river ever-so-pleasing. We found the room and furnishings to be very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was very good. Parking was easy and convenient. We recommend this hotel for a unique experience in lovely Regensburg.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and the hotel is really quirky, full of decorations. Some might find that tacky, I just loved it!
The rooms are spacious, the breakfast is excellent and overall it made for a very pleasant stay. The old town is just a short stroll away.
There's plenty of parking, including several chargers for electric cars, so I was able to continue my journey the next day with a full battery.
Hotel is on a great location, just 5 minutes out from the highway A3 through Germany. We use it already more times when travelling towards South Europe. The facilities are very good, the breakfast is excellent! We have booked a junior suite, which is a two bedroom suite and has an own little kitchen with fridge. The receptionists are quite kind and helpful.
Beautiful hotel , spotlessly clean with excellent on-site parking, we ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely, especially the breakfast , never stayed anywhere that offers such a variety of food to fill you up for the day, the staff are wonderful, its about a 20 minute walk into the old town which has plenty of bars and restaurants.
Wonderfull small boutique hotel in the center of the old town of Regensburg. Interesting hotel history and we enjoyed reading the many arts catalogues in our room. BTW: spacious room (superior double), definitively recommendable. Wonderful breakfast in the French style bistro on the ground floor (btw: The dinner option is also very nice).
Location is short walking distance to old town. Restaurants are nearby. The host is very fast in response, friendly and kind to let us stay on the 2nd floor as our luggage is too heavy to carry up to the 4th floor room originally assigned. I highly recommend staying in this accommodation if you ever visit Regensburg, value for money!
If you are looking for a spacious property, great location, clean, and extra amenities, than this place is for you! We visited Germany with some friends and this was by far the best place we stayed and the best value! We would stay here again, and hope to come back.
The lack of a lift was overcome with help from staff shifting us to a room on.lower floor. The help with luggage was much appreciated. The room could use two cooling towers instead of just the one. This was exceptionally hot week in Germany.
The hotel is located close to the Old Town. Nice clean building. Very nice and helpful staff. Breakfast modest but adequate. The highest anti-Covid standards are maintained. Quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Parking is a big plus.
Good location, just 10-15 minutes to the city centre. The room was very clean and comfortable. The advantage is that they allow pets in the hotel. The breakfast was tasty and offered a wide range of food, although a bit pricy.
Lovely hotel right next to the river, beautifully decorated room. Even thought I arrived late, and there was nobody at the reception, I got clear instructions how to get in. I was travelling with my dog, he liked it too :)
We went just for an overnight stay during our long trip through Germany.
Everything was just as you (tired traveller) would need it to be: welcoming smile, clean, quiet room, hassle free check-in and out.
Really nice small hotel, small but very comfortable and quiet room, nicely decorated lobby and breakfast room. Perfectly situated in the old town but next to a parking garage so easily accessible by car.
This is a classic Ibis Hotel, with nice, clean rooms, and everything you can expect from the famous hotel chain. It is ina very good positions, at a 14 minutes walk from the city center.
The staff were great. Location is awesome. Room is way above par for what we have been getting in Germany. Really liked staying here. Included breakfast was great.
Nice hotel near old town city center. The room with AC - very important during heat wave in the summer. Veried breakfast and near location of the parking.
