Germany’s oldest city and a provincial capital of the Western Roman Empire until the 3rd century, Trier is overflowing with exquisite architecture and Roman ruins such as the Amphitheater and Porta Nigra gate. The colossal Cathedral Trier is also the oldest of its kind in Germany.
The historic landmarks continue with the 2nd-century Roman bridge that crosses over the Moselle River, which also passes through nearby Luxembourg and France. Cruises along the Moselle start in Koblenz and end in Trier.
Trier was the home of Karl Marx and the 15th-century University of Trier is home to a large student population that often refers to the university as Karl-Marx-University of Trier. His birthplace is now a museum, Karl Marx House.
A wonderful example of the Christmas markets in Germany can be found each year in Trier, at Hauptmarkt Square in front of the cathedral. Make sure you check Booking.com for special deals on hotels during this period.

Trier is an interesting town, however be aware all the facilities & services you might be familiar with & expecting, may not be available. Such as; taxi, Uber, restaurants open outside of regular hours - these may all be an issue, according to what we experienced.
Some of this was due to Christmas & New Years limited hours and services. Taxis and Uber-type services are an issue, and appear unreliable.

I love Roman history so Trier was a must-see for me.
I love Roman history so Trier was a must-see for me. The main tourist attractions are easily searchable online but the city is small enough to be completely walkable. I was there at the end of November and there were already Christmas markets set up which was fun to walk around - buy the Glühwein (mulled wine) if you're there at that time.
You have to eat at Weinstube Zum Domstein! They have traditional Roman food offerings which were delicious. I loved the meal so much, especially sitting in the Roman Basement (Römer Keller) where they have displayed Roman artifacts. Such a cool dining experience.

Trier is quaint and manageable for a small city.
Trier is quaint and manageable for a small city. Friendly and hospitable locals. There were enough English-speaking workers in various establishments. I enjoyed the walking trails. The city has a lot to offer for Roman history enthusiasts. It has a far reaching and interesting history as a city in its own right.

The city is very historic and was not overrun by tourists at the time of our visit. We stayed two days and nights and were able to see the old town and Roman amphitheater, baths and Porta Nigra, on top of the main two cathedrals and main square and shopping. The city seems very safe and easy to access by walking or bicycling. As with other cities we visited during our two-week Germany trip, we parked the car and walked or took public transportation.
Great Cozy little studio. Equipped with everything necessary
- Very clean
- And everything there even for longer stays, fully equiped kitchen, good internet and a comfortable bed.
- For the same price as a hotel room the absolutely better choice. Also the location was amazing, right in the center of Trier, close to many quite cafés and good restaurants.
The host was really really nice and helpful. The coffee machine including free pads was a very nice touch!
Will come again!!
The hotel has a good location with easy access to the public transport.
The room was equipped with an electric kettle which makes the stay more pleasant.
The staff were generally responsible and flexible. As the lady in charge of the breakfast let me start my breakfast a little earlier than the regular start time because I had to leave earlier to catch my meeting. Also when my bill needed changes in the address, they sent me the modified bill so quickly by email.
We had a wonderful stay at this beautifully appointed and characterful hotel. Staff were all friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was excellent and we also enjoyed a lovely dinner in the hotel restaurant, choosing from a menu of local specialities. All the staff we met made our stay special. Located in the old town, only minutes walk from the main attractions the Romantik Hotel zur Glock is the perfect place to stay to explore the fascinating old city of Trier.
This property is fantastic and the location is central to shopping and the sites. The rooms are well appointed and maculate. Hotel staff goes above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. We arrived early and the staff kept our luggage safe and transferred to the room. Upon arrival we were treated to sparkling wine, and complimentary water, fruit and chocolate. This property is an unbelievable find for under $200 a night and breakfast included.
Perfect location, only minutes away from the town centre with its sights, restaurants, pubs, and shops. The hotel is very clean with friendly staff and modern, pleasant facilities. Outdoor parking or a spacious, bright garage are both available against an extra fee. You can buy soft drinks, beer or local wine at the reception desk. An extensive breakfast buffet allows for a perfect start into the day.
Really nice hotel.
Very friendly staff, very clean and nicely taken care of, good breakfast, comfortable beds, big bathroom with great water pressure in the shower, bus stop to trier city center right in front of the hotel, free parking in front of the hotel, pizzeria next door for drinks and food.
We enjoyed our stay very much.
Clear recommendation for a stay in the area!
Really like the Roman theme and the way it is done.
Breakfast is great and very peaceful compared to many hotels.
Location is excellent, slap bang in the middle of town. Early arrivals (recommended so you can see something of Trier) can get a handy parking spot right next or very near reception,
Big hotel room. Private parking near the hotel.
Trier city center reachable by bus. 4km walking distance allongside the Moesel to the Roman bridge in the city center is possible when you first walk to the Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke.
Nice hiking routes starting near the hotel.
The location was excellent! Right in the heart of Trier and extremely close to the city sights- all are within walking distance. The hotel is modern, clean, has comfortable beds and the breakfast was good. I would choose this hotel again due to location and value.
I like everything about the place. It was very clean, with its own bathroom and kitchenette, a view of the quiet neighborhood and the nearby mountain, the bus stop is just 2 minutes away. It was more than enough for my 3 nights stay in Trier.
Clean modern hotel, good size room, close to main attractions of Trier. Staff were very helpful with an unusual request. Enjoyed staying here at an ok price. (€87) Aircon was great and easy to manage.
The hotel was in a good location, just a few hundred meters from the city centre. The staff were helpful and friendly. It was very warm when we were there so the air conditioning was appreciated
Good hotel in the centre of Trier close to the historical centre. Nice breakfast. Parking available but we where on motorcycle and there was a parking place next to the hotel.
Cute hotel and cozy, clean room. Self service check in and check out was awesome! And you cannot beat that location. It was only a 3-4 minute walk to the Chirstmas markets!
