Regensburg’s cobbled streets, colorful façades and step gables constitute Germany’s best-preserved medieval center. A 12th-century stone bridge crosses the Danube River between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town and islands forming the Stadtamhof district.
Regensburg was an important trading center and its wealthy merchants built tall towers, like the Goldener Turm, to outdo each other. The dual spires of its Gothic cathedral tower over red roofs sheltering sidewalk cafes, traditional bierkellers and modern bars.
Niedermünster abbey also has square towers, while the Alte Kapelle’s most impressive feature is intricate gold interior detailing. Nearby Neupfarrplatz houses the annual Christmas markets, while the old town hall is on Kohlenmarkt. Just down the street, a large David and Goliath mural adorns a house.
A plaque outside a more modest house marks Oskar Schindler’s former home. Much grander is Schloss Thurn und Taxis, an 8th-century monastery converted to a noble residence. At the eastern end of a park encircling the historic center, there's a villa built for King Maximilian II of Bavaria. It overlooks riverboats cruising past a more outlandish royal creation, Donaustauf’s Walhalla monument, resembling a Greek temple.
Booking.com has a great range of Regensburg accommodations including 4-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guesthouses near the train station.
We loved Regensburg. It is a beautiful, quite city with friendly people, great food, and reasonable amount of traffic. Our visit was very plesant. Nothing went wrong. Dining in the restaurant and shopping in the supermarket are both quite cheap.

I travelled to Regensburg every month for 15 years working and never tired of the city. We still visit every December to meet old friends and enjoy the Christmas ambience.
Plenty of traditional Bavarian restaurants - my favourites being Hacker Pschorr and Dicker Mann - but lots of modern places as well
A beautiful old city centre - exactly how you would envisage a traditional Bavarian city. Not to be missed

Regensburg is a wonderful medieval town.
Regensburg is a wonderful medieval town. The entire old town is easily walkable and there are so many ancient homes/buildings to see. Get a local guide so you don’t walk right past something incredible without realizing.

Beautiful old town, compact, easy to walk everywhere.
Beautiful old town, compact, easy to walk everywhere. Nice restaurants and cafes with great views. There are almost no cars in the old town and it makes it a good experience. The city has a very interesting history. Little shops with all kinds of things. Well worth a nice weekend.
Had very good dinner at Al Camino pizzeria+Peppers mexican- those two places make one restaurant on Haidplatz - and they have tasty tank beer!
We took a 45 min tour via the electric train (leaving every hour from the Domplatz at the cathedtral. The audio guide (in 6 languages) was informativre and fun.
Beautiful hotel , spotlessly clean with excellent on-site parking, we ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely, especially the breakfast , never stayed anywhere that offers such a variety of food to fill you up for the day, the staff are wonderful, its about a 20 minute walk into the old town which has plenty of bars and restaurants.
Breakfast was the standard German offering, breads, meats/cheese, yoghurt, cold cereals. Each morning the buffet was fresh and plentiful. They were making custom coffee for guests as requested.
The location was slightly outside the old town, however, only a few minutes walk. It was residential and away from the business of the city.
A beautiful room with nets around a 4-poster bed, plus a kettle and coffee machine
The location is in the old town, and with a bus stop outside- train direct to and from rail station
They provide an amazing vegan breakfast (as well as other choices)
A hotel with character
If you are looking for a spacious property, great location, clean, and extra amenities, than this place is for you! We visited Germany with some friends and this was by far the best place we stayed and the best value! We would stay here again, and hope to come back.
The hotel is centrally located in the old town, so it was close to restaurants, shops, and sights. The rooms were clean and large with air conditioning that worked well. Breakfast was good and quickly served, and the service throughout the hotel was friendly.
Hard to think of a better-located hotel relative to the attractions and altstadt. The breakfast was very good and staged in a spacious and beautiful room. The staff was helpful with dinner recommendations. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
The hotel is located in the center, few minutes walk away from the train station at the edge of the old town. The building is well kept and the room/bathroom was also clean. Staff was very friendly and spoke good English.
The hotel is in the middle of the Old Town, in a really good location. The room was spacious. Although breakfast is not in a buffet form but served, and the choice is limited, it was actually delicious in its own way.
The location is great. On a quiet street but super close to the main old town city center. Also very close to the river and a nice plaza with food trucks.
The apartment is spacious, comfortable and clean.
Everything, from the reception to the departure. The restaurant definitely adds flavour to the history of the hotel. Can't wait to stay every time I come to visit my son. Truly a one-in-a-million location.
it was a new facility, excellent staff and when all the new roads are completed it will be even better. Good restaurants in the area. Close to train station and an easy walk to the “old town.”
Hotel was located within walking distance of the old town. Close to shopping and restaurants. Parking was located behind the hotel in a garage. Small breakfast room with good selection.
Modern, comfortable hotel, it is one of the better ibis hotels I've stayed at. Staff were professional and helpful. Underground parking lot made travel easy.
