Colourful and historic, modern and colonial, local and touristic, Cartagena de Indias represents one of the liveliest Colombian beach resorts. Its character mixes cultures and peoples, including natives, Spanish, African and Arab. Its rich legacy granted its Old Town the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Echoes of those times can be seen throughout the historic centre, in the city walls, the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, and the colourful streets and colonial squares. Some of the best hotels in Cartagena de Indias can be found here.
Proudly Caribbean, Cartagena’s soul gives the rhythm to the streets, and the music coming out of cafés and restaurants is nothing but a physical manifestation of its collective spirit. Follow the beat, get to the seaside, and have one of your best holidays. Hotels near Cartagena de Indias’ beaches will be the perfect stage.
You can reach the city flying from Bogotá El Dorado International Airport to Rafael Nuñez Airport. Don’t miss this remarkable piece of Colombia, Booking.com offers you the best hotel deals in Cartagena de Indias.
Lots to do if you work with local tourist agents. Leave the area and go to Baru for glowing plankton or boats to Rosario archipelago. Old town. Watch out for street vendors selling trinkets and being too pushy.

The best attraction in Cartagena de Indias is the National Aviary of Colombia. There should be more options to visit it for more than 2 hours.
Photography tours with Paola Sanchez are also great for people who love photography.

A lot of great food options, best seafood in Colombia.
A lot of great food options, best seafood in Colombia.
Our favorites:
- La Cevicheria
- La Mulata
- Cafe del Mar ( bit pricey for what it is, but worth it for the sunset drinks )
- El baron ( great tapas in the middle of the square )
Town with a rich history and lots of important landmarks and sights to visit. Great colonial architecture, colorful streets and lively people.
It is very touristic, with a lot of locals non stop trying to sell/push tours/restaurants and goods on the street, felt a bit like India sometimes. There are great street performances of dance groups and artists happening, which i enjoyed a lot though!

Great place to visit as long as you don't mind being harrassed non stop by street vendors trying to sell you hats, cigars, sunscreen, tchotchkes and other things, having menus constantly thrown in your face or being honked at by multiple cab drivers if you stop on a sidewalk for even a second wanting to know if you need a ride. Everything worth seeing in Cartagena can be seen in one day, two tops if you want to see some places out side the city

Better to go to brasil for vacation. or Cuba. Cartagena is a little rough on edges and no good food to be had anywhere. Been here 20 times due to family. much better places to vacation in northeast Brasil and for much cheaper

If you are American, everything there feels like a price...
If you are American, everything there feels like a price gouge and/or a scam. You will pay New York prices for a very low quality experience advertised as being five stars top notch. I have traveled a fair bit and unfortunately nothing that we did in Cartagena was worth the price we paid for it - not the hotel, not the food (with the notable exception of Crepes & Waffles restaurant), not the history tours, not the snorkeling adventure. The scuba diving adventure, which we booked and paid through Viator, got canceled on us by the scuba company at the last minute (9pm the night before) only to be told by the next morning at 8am "if you pay us directly" we can still go. Needless to say, we didn't go. I felt pretty burnt. I would not recommend travel to Cartagena to anyone.

The hotel is gorgeous, well kept, clean and perfectly located just outside the old city walls. The breakfast was tasty, the bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning perfect, and the room smelled absolutely beautiful every day (like delicate caramel:). But the best part of my stay were the staff. Rafael in particular was in regular contact before I arrived to address any questions or concerns I had about transport, etc. Would absolutely stay there again if I am lucky enough to return to the lovely city of Cartagena.
the building room and general design , every floor represents a Colombian community and art all over the building, the pools on the second floor with a connected view with the ocean was fantastic!!! and seeing it from the outside point of view, it looks like a real boat as you can appreciate on the front picture of the building!!! everything is like being on Arabia!!! beautiful and the personnel are very helpful!!
best hotel on my entire vacation tour !!! we stay in so many hotels and this was the best of all !!
This place is beautiful. It is very nicely decorated and the pool is very nice (small but enough for an afternoon swim to refresh after walking around Cartagena)
The location is good. Everything is within walking distance in Cartagena Old town. This hotel is not right in the middle of the touristy attractions but close enough. It is located in a quiet street close to a nice plaza and a bunch of good restaurants.
The staff at check-in where very nice
Amazing location! Don’t even think two times and booked this room right the way! Room it’s clean, bed comfortable, ac works good, Wi-Fi works good, host is very friendly! And on top it’s nice terrace. Across the street You have new mall, distance walking it’s everywhere 5–10min ( getsemani, main plaza, whall etc). If I would ever come back to Cartagena this is where I stay again!
The location was perfect. Getsemani is a stunning neighborhood to stay in and so close to the old city. The staff at Arsenal was always helpful and kind. It was my birthday and they surprised me during breakfast with a happy birthday song and pastry. The hotel itself is worth it. It’s super clean, the rooms were really nice and spacious. Honestly, it exceeded my expectations.
A very, very high level place, it is easy to see how much investment and thought was put into the hotel.
The hotel looks amazing, very clean, luxurious and high quality. The hotel staff are very nice people.
The roof of the hotel with the pool and the beds is very nice.
Excellent location near the old city.
In short - we were more than satisfied and recommend!
Hotel was beautiful. Unique layout of rooms and in an absolutely fantastic location. Few minutes stroll from the wall in a really pretty street.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the pools were beautifully located with sunbeds and towels provided. Not many rooms in this hotel - it really is boutique but that made it quiet and relaxing.
Location is right in the middle of the action. Lots of restaurants and music and a short walk to the walled old city.
Carlos at the front desk was very helpful and always quick with a laugh.
The hotel is pretty, though because it's an inner courtyard, it gets hot.
The cleaning staff worked really hard and were really lovely.
This hotel is really central. You are in the heart of the action in the old city which is great. Staff were friendly. Good breakfast served between 7am and 10am. Really good air-con in room which was great. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Nice (albeit small) pool open between 9am and 9pm on roof. Would stay here again.
Our stay in Casa India Catalina was perfect! The location is fantastic, the colonial style building is impressive and it has everything is need it to spend a few days in Cartagena de Indias.
The facilities and fourniture in the room are a bit old but functional.
The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is tasty.
The only redeeming quality about this hotel was the breakfast and it's probably because it doesn't belong to the hotel. There is a cafe attached to the hotel where they send you for breakfast. It's really good, with a full breakfast menu to choose from.
The location, within Getsemani, is excellent - close to the activity fo Getsemani and a pleasant walk to the old city and the waterside activities. The hotel has an old world charm and pleasant reception staff.
Perfect location - next to the castle, 15 min walking distance to the old city. Modern hotel. Tasty food. Pool on the roof with great view. Comfortable bed and pillows. Clean bathroom. Shopping mall nearby.
Kathleen was wonderful at the reception. Loved the bird book in the lobby. Room was very comfortable and the location of the hotel is perfect for walking around the old city.
the room was big well maintained tv had cable with international channels and the hotel is well situated in old city town not far from anything by foot
