In 20 years the lovely, quiet and quaint town of Lijiang has developed like no other, become a tourist magnet (seemingly mostly for Mainland Chinese tourists) and has almost completely lost its charm... unless you wake up early and walk in the deserted streets at sunrise (before 8am). From morning onward it is choking with tourists, even in low season (can't imagine high season !!), discos at night become restaurants during the day, and the whole place is just guesthouses, retail shops and restaurants. Even old ladies selling strawberries can't give change on 20 yuan and ask for payment by AliPay or WeChat Pay!!
Shuhe and Baisha are no better, victim of their "heritage" status that has completely destroyed the soul of those places.
Luckily, with electric cars and electric scooter the air is fairly pure and the sky still blue. It makes for nice photos, but forget originality. A very good example of a UNESCO Heritage site that has become a victim of its success... go and visit before it's even worse, but in low season please............

With covid over the crowds are back, did i mention the crowds? dont go its far too busy now
Only Intercontinental gives a reminder of the former peace of Lijiang - this too only a reminder when you see the scrum for breakfast

The staff were fantastic.
The staff were fantastic. In particular the manager Joye accommodated every request we made and did it with a smile and genuine sense of friendship.
We needed some complicated forward planning and both travel and accommodation reservations to be made. Mr Joye assigned a very nice, intelligent and competent young lady named Cassie who did an amazing job and we are now traveling again with all of her advice and recommendations proving to be excellent.
We would throughly recommend using this, and most of the staff speak English.

It was a nice ancient town to walk round and was very picturesque.
The good thing was that it was car free. Unfortunately the shops sell most of the same things. The places to visit around Lijiang were easy to visit by car.

Lijiang is a wonderful town.
Lijiang is a wonderful town. A great place to get a glimpse of China's past. The Local Naxi people are colourful and friendly. Beautiful sights all within walking distance of the Old Town. Highly recommended.
Great Yunnan traditional food in the Old Town at "Yun Xue Li" (Yunnan Snow Lijiang) - 云南省丽江市古城区七一街兴文巷95号
A great vegetarian buffet (at only 18RMB per person) in the new town is Auspicious Vegetarian Restaurant Building 6, Jinkai Plaza Complex Building, Gucheng district. This is about 10 minutes walk from the North gate of the Old town.

The Old Town is ok for a walk through, but it's really touristed. The original old town is still there, but it's not that will maintained. If you're going to higher altitude, use it as a stop over.
The room we stayed in was spacious, clean, and well-maintained. The facilities were excellent and suitable for our needs. The location of the hotel is right in the center of the old town. We were able to walk to many of the main attractions, making this room convenient base for exploring the city.
We were impressed by the owner. She was welcoming, attentive to our needs, and went out of her way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed the local breakfast that the owner took us to. Thanks again for everything Sisi :D
I travelled in December and I loved the cozy atmosphere of this well located room, with its big comfy bed, electric blankets, heater and tub! The overall atmosphere of the inn is beautifully charming and rustic (like the city of Lijiang itself). Most of all, it was the kindness and hospitality of Xixi, the owner, who went above and beyond to accommodate me by couriering my pre-flight covid test results to the inn and helping me ship some things home. Outstanding all around !
Beautiful city views from the room! Hotel staff is super nice and helpful, even speak a little English. You get authentic Yunnan teas and a tea set in your room which was a nice surprise. Lots of heating options in the winter too, including a space heater and heating packs. Great location - nightlife area and the Old Town canal is only a few steps away. Has a strong inn-like or homestay vibe. The open calligraphy table and playable guzheng were nice touches.
We liked everything very cozy place.Great place in Baisha village , after we visited Lijiang old town which is not nice at all we moved to Baisha with not much expectations and than magic happened. It is beautiful small village and Flamingo is probably the best place in Baisha. Highly recommended! Staff is also very nice and professional gave us a good advices for local and western food and some coffee shops. They gave us a small map as well
The place was hospitable from the start. Their original walking map of Lijiang Old Town was fantastic. It took me through wonderful spots, many away from the thronging tourist crowd. The floor heating and bed heating were unexpected. These would serve very well during the cold seasons. And, if you are into wines and local produce, they serve some delicious local wines, cheeses and ham. Went as a solo traveler, but never felt alone there.
The design of the room was so stylish and practical, bed super comfortable, shower great, sofa/desk - wow great design. And room was super clean. Staff was also incredibly kind and helpful especially when I stupidly lost my room key in a matter of hours of receiving it ugh. Price of room was extremely reasonable too. After staying here, I plan to seek out this hotel brand in the future elsewhere - I was Very Impressed
The accommodation environment is very nice, a small courtyard filled with fresh flowers. The staff in the shop are all very friendly. Kyrie, Joye, and the landlady Cici provided us with a lot of help. In the evening, Joye even took us to the bars in Lijiang to have fun. It was a very pleasant stay, and we will stay at her place again next time we come to Lijiang. 👍👍👍
Breakfast was decent. Joey's services was excellent. Came to China with my phone and internet completely cut off. Most grateful to Joey for helping me obtain a decent priced ticket home, plus many of the usual services. Without Joey's help, my entire trip would have turned into a nightmare.
Hotel right in the middle of the old city. Nice tourist hangout.
This is a beautiful boutique quaint gem of a place in Lijiang. It has a stunning view from the dinning room window of the rooftops in Lijiang. It is perfectly located, right in the middle of the Old Town Lijiang. The staff of this hotel is friendly, helpful and with a "I can help you with that" attitude. It was wonderful to spend Christmas here.
We enjoyed our stay at Lijiang. The hotel is at good location because it’s close to the main road and walkable to the ancient city. The staff is friendly and supportive. He replied me very quick. His English is also good and he helped us whenever we need.
The room is tidy and clean, we enjoyed the services and atmosphere of the ancient city
The location is perfect for first time visitors to Lijiang. It’s very close to all the must see recommendations, such as Si Fang Jie, the Four Square Centre, and my favorite attraction- Mu Fu. The unit is just beautiful and very clean. They also provide a washing machine and dryer for their guests. The hosts are super friendly and helpful.
The room is clean and huge. Though this is located in the Old Town, the amenities and facilities inside are modern and luxurious. The owner who runs this place ensure that the guests are well taken care of. Not to mention there are always fresh fruits, tea and even plum wine available.
Great inn in the heart of Lijiang old town. The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff was nice and provided great recommendations to enjoy the city and its surroundings. It is a quiet inn with amazing view on the old city.
Excellent location adjoining the ancient city.
Great facilities.
Resort style hotel.
Very good service. Staff attentive and eager to help.
Some staff speak English.
Hotel a good choice for international travellers.
The breakfast was great - a good selection of both Chinese and Western options available. The room was very comfy and spacious. The hotel is on the edge of the ancient city which makes it very convenient.
The food cooked at the hotel was exceptional, very well cooked, had a very homely feel to it. The staff were extremely friendly and they were super helpful as well.
