The City That Has It All

Historically known as Canton and China’s third largest city, Guangzhou is the birthplace of the most popular types of Chinese cuisine such as iconic wonton soup and dim-sum. It has an impressive skyline, some of the oldest temples in the country and busy markets with everything from tea to hi-tech electronics.

The busy city center mesmerises with its futuristic architecture and beautifully lit skyscrapers but just a short trip away is the quiet haven of Nansha Wetland, a bird sanctuary. After a visit here that rejuvenates with new energy, you can then admire the traditional Cantonese architecture of Xiguan Residence, once occupied by the ruling class.

One of the city’s most popular attractions, the Liurong Temple is an absolute must-see, dating back to the 6th century and featuring a 17-story high pagoda. Make sure you don’t miss the traditional buildings near Yide Road as they are slowly being removed from the map due to the city’s rapid growth.

From a 1000-year-old lake garden, to plenty of theme parks, relaxing rolling hills and mountains, Guangzhou seems to have it all! Add impressive street markets and shopping centers and you are in for a fascinating ride.

Guangzhou Airport is a convenient metro or taxi ride away and Booking.com provides over 390 different accommodations options for you to choose from.

The photos shown is not as actual stay. The hotel is total run down. Bathroom is full of stains. Housekeeping is not doing a good job. The hallway carpet is badly maintain. Management is poor. Booking.com should make a spot check before you list Sunny Private Apartment to your website. It is so misleading to guess.

    My favourite city in China.

My favourite city in China. I lived here before for a year, and have visited many times. A great combination of modernity with Cantonese history and culture. Different areas, each with their own atmosphere. Very comfortable weather in winter, perfect to get away from the cold north of China. So much to see and do.

Not too much for the sightseeing and air quality is not always perfectly good, but the city is really comfortable for staying, we enjoyed every day being there. Couple days more there for shopping or going elsewhere wouldn’t hurt. We loved staying in the Huacheng square area. A lot places to eat there, couple of malls near and metro station nearby. Metro is a great way to get around the city. But like 4-5 days there for tourists is max

Guangzhou is a great, colourful, vibrant, multinational city which welcomes visitors with open arms. So many great places to eat, and a myriad of cultural sites in snd around Guangzhou to go sightseeing. Two weeks was too short to see everything, and I will undoubtedly return. Getting around by taxi or metro us easy and cheap. Late night shopping in the big malls is a great experience.

Wonderful city with great food, generally polite people and a plethora of things to buy. If you are into dried foods (flower mushrooms, sea cucumber, chilli, other herbs), this is the place in the world. We came across some replica items ... looked real, but the prices the people were charging were ridiculous so we walked away. Local fashion unfortunately suffers, but there are pockets where you can find some interesting stuff. The concierge told me that in 5 years that he has worked in the hotel, he has never seen a doctor visit the hotel and guests had to go to the hospital. If you fall ill, this is a nightmare if you do not speak the language. The hospital is chaotic and there is little to zero respect for queues - people just barge into the room and demand the doctor's attention. Naturally, they are all irritated. Bizarrely, the default in Guangzhou is to be Rude to you (in a hospital) until they realized you are not and then they are polite to you. But the service standard is atrocious. I'd say 2/10 for me because I speak some Chinese. If I didn't, it will probably be -5/10.

Hotel is in a very good position, around are a lot of restaurants. Big and nice rooms, modern unusual design - everithing electric drived. On the 6’th floor is a very beautifilul SPA and swimmingpool. Are also 2 jacuzzis outside on the teras. The view from the jacuzzy is amasing. Room service bringed good food. Nice terase bar on the 6’th floor with a big offer of vines. For the Canton Fair the hotel organised the transportation for guests with buses. Everithing was done perfect! Nice people, very helpful!

Spacious and clean rooms (when you are not assigned a room that just got disinfected from cigarette smoke), good breakfast, nice pool, and with a perfect location downtown Guangzhou, close to the metro and GZ main shopping malls. Multiple restaurants around. I believe the Oakwood is an excellent price/quality ratio given the rate we've had and the services/comfort provided. I feel the hotel to be perfect for a family stay, but could also fit business stays (wifi is under the China firewall though).

Stayed there for 3 nights, the location was great, many great restaurants and shops nearby hotel, only walking distance. Breakfast is great! Have a lot of variety every day, taste good enough for me. They also have some coffee machine so you can get real delicious cafe latte, capuccino or americano there. Room also great, I love the pillows and bed. They also have laundry room available for guest to use washing machine, ironing, etc.

The hotel is located near to the metro station and is a few minutes walk as described by many of the reviewer. The hotel is located in front of a busy streets with restaurants servings various food from parts of China, hair saloons and a bar beside the hotel entrance for those who like a drink. Checking in and out is a breeze and the room is clean with toilet amenities. The bed is generally soft and comfy.

The best thing about this hotel was its staff. They go above and beyond what's expected of them. They help you with restaurant reservation and they make sure that you have a calling card of the hotel with you at all times in case you get lost and can't speak fluent Mandarin. Next thing is it's very near the Canton fair exhibit. It took us around 5-8 minutes via the free shuttle provided by the hotel.

Staff is very helpful (thanks Kerry). Hotel is close to Pazhou Complex (Canton Fair). Many thanks to Paco Hotel for organizing a very convenient everyday transfer to and from Canton fair (with complimentary snacks and water)

Wonderful breakfast, as well as afternoon tea (with salad, until 20:00) and evening noodles (from 22:00 to 1:00). Surprisingly clean room. Through Booking.com, the hotel does not respond quickly, but within 1-2 days. You can find out information about the shuttle bus at the airport information station, they will call to the hotel for you and then you will find the bus next to the exit 43.

The receptionist was very friendly. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. They even provided earplugs on the bedside table, which was very thoughtful. It's very close to the airport so there are no shops or restaurants nearby. However there is a restaurant in the hotel and also a mini ship so not really an issue.

Great price. The front of house staff were very helpful. The airport transfer was extremely reliable & runs all day. The hotel is fine to sleep for a day stop over in Guangzhou. It is probably 2-3 star by western standards & we were fine with that because it's good value.
