It felt very unsafe, even for Sunday, in the city center. We haven't seen any police or other public servants anywhere, the city is filled with people of all types and mainly poor people asking for money. Also, you could smell weed everywhere and rubbish. Broken bottles on the sidewalk, urine smell and a bad feel about the whole place. This is the city center. The whole impression is of a decaying city, unsafe and not that tourist friendly. Will probably never return.

the city is under construction works (obviously to have a better face in the future) but it doesn't seem the safest place to wonder on the streets..a lot of digging and broken streets due to the renovation works in the whole city..i wouldn't spend more than a day here

The town is well located for day trips to Bruxelles, Brugge and Luxembourg. Town itself has many little cafés and restaurants as well as popular chains. A nice warm shopping mall in the center. Extensive redevelopment going on everywhere (railway station and road junctions). Palais de Beaux Arts seemed firmly closed when I visited (a Saturday in January) despite many posters advertising it. I will come back, but when it's warmer.

The Charleroi is cozy small town with good restaurants (like Cafe Le Luxembourg).
Good point for accomodation and place near to Brussel (only 1 hour to Brussel centre by car or train) if you are planning to visit the capital city.
Good architecture and place for walk.

We had stayed in Charleroi many years ago, and found big changes. The bus Station at Charleroi Sud (now known as Charleroi Central is now very big) and is still under construction. Once finished the area will be lovely. There are lots of competitively priced accommodations to choose from. The public transport system is excellent from trams to buses to trains. Everyone is very friendly and going at Christmas was special. A couple of Christmas markets to see and the ice rink looked good fun. Since we last visited - several years ago - a shopping centre has been opened which has many shops to visit. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas - was lovely and warm and catered for everyone. I would say don’t use use Charleroi for passing through, spend at least a day and enjoy what it has to offer. We are locally and found the food very good and varied.

Charleroi is a good place to stay if travelling around and has good rail links to Brussels. The centre has seen better days and looks run down when walking around at night. I was travelling around a a lot so was just based there as handy for Brussels south airport and my early morning departure flight home. Not a lot in the way of sights as its a ex industry
area.
Sweet Home is a wonderful option for those who decided to explore this wonderful country and is arriving at Charleroi Airport. The house is quiet and the rooms are very comfortable. The bed was excellent, and the room had everything stated on this site including a kettle, some coffee and tea, etc. But I would like to send my special greetings and gratitude to the amazing host of Sweet Home, dear Frenande, who took great care of me and helped me with many things. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back again soon!!
I only stayed one night as I went there because I had to catch a plane the next morning at the Charleroi south airport.
Excellent hostel. Rooms were spotless and clean. Beds were comfortable. Social area was large. I had to catch an extra early flight but they still had snacks I could take and eat because I was leaving before breakfast. Very close to the shuttle bus to get to the airport. Great Hostel
The hotel is pretty nice and the rooms are clean with plenty of space. The location is great, 7 minutes by car to Charleroi Airport. The room had an electric kettle and TV with hundreds of TV channels from many different countries. The owner is super nice and helpful. It was difficult for us to go out to eat so he prepared dinner for us. He also took us to the airport at 4am. Definitely recommended!
Nothing. Honestly terrible. No air conditioning, dirty room and honestly in the worst location ever!! Stay at the ibis budget it’s better placed because at least you can walk from the airport to the hotel. This hotel is 1hr 30 mins from the airport and will set you back 30-50€ one way to the hotel [no shuttle]. You can only use airport taxis as Uber does not operate there.
Great place to stay near Charleroi airport. Creatively docorated big room with aviation and Tintin style. We were starting our cycling trip from Charleroi and it was possible leave our cyclebags to Hotel which made our trip much more easy. Good breakfast and very good service. I will recommend.
This is an extremely convenient hotel for a stopover if you are transiting Charleroi airport. It is fantastic value with a super efficient bus shuttle service and really awesome staff who could not be more helpful. It is a budget hotel but has aspirations to be more!
Fantastic welcome and service. The hotel is well located near the Charleroi airport. The room was clean and correct. The host made the stay a real pleasure, driving us to a great restaurant nearby as well as making the transfer to the airport early in the morning.
The hotel is 10 minutes away from the airport. The personnel is very friendly and helpful. We needed to stay one night between flights and it was great value and close to the airport for the morning flight. The hotel offers free of charge the airport transfer.
Hotel is very close to the Charleroi Airport, which is great if you are validating your European Pilot License. The staff was very nice (when they were there). Served it's purpose to be close to the airport, and it has free parking!
The hotel is close both to the Charleroi South train station and the city center. Also, the transfer from/to the Charleroi airport is easy because the bus station is right in front of the hotel.
The room size and hotel location is good for spending the night before traveling from CharleRoi airport. The room was clean and comfortable, not the fancy type. Staff were helpful and nice.
- nice rooms, comfortable beds
- hotel offered free-of-charge shuttle bus to the airport in the morning
- hotel staff very flexible and prepared to accommodate customer requests
They offer free shuttle, that's perfect, if I am ever traveling through Charleroi airport this is the hotel that I am choosing to spend the night after or before.
