Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Always love going back to my birth place of Hobart.
Always love going back to my birth place of Hobart. It was great to be a tourist for 7 days on honeymoon to do things that I have and have not already done. Salamanca Markets are the best of any I’ve been to. Mount Wellington was simply awesome! And the fresh seafood at Constitution Dock is second to none!

Hobart is a great city with lots of things to visit and see, majority are only a short distance. There is something for everyone covering environmental, historical, scenic, adrenaline, food and drink all with a close distance. Easy to get around so hiring a car is easy or you can take up the many day tours they have available. The food and drinks around all of Tassie is high quality.

Lots of history in and around Hobart. Car useful.
Lots of history in and around Hobart. Car useful. Not sure about public transport. City and waterfront interesting Lots to see outside the city - bush, countryside, harbours, inlets and beaches. Didn't have a chance to visit MONA. There's more to see and I'll be back.

Great little city/town with plenty to do in the city.
Great little city/town with plenty to do in the city. There's plenty within and hour or two's drive of the city, a must to get a car, forget the tours and do your own itinerary. Must see's Freycinet, Bruny, Maria Island, all within 2-3hrs of the city.

I went to Hobart for a family event.
I went to Hobart for a family event. I always enjoy going there as there is a lot for everyone in the family to do and great places to eat. The only thing I do not like about Hobart is that at peak times the Brooker Highway gets terribly clogged with traffic and that should be sorted out e.g. a communter train.
The room was spacious and modern.
Bathroom was bigger than expected, modern and spotless.
Amazing value for money.
Located on Collins St right in the middle of the CBD so easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, the waterfront etc.
I had some international meetings to attend via Zoom and the wifi was more than adequate.
Located above a pub so a little bit of noise from the smokers' area, but the hotel closes at 9pm during the week so very quiet after that.
My studio apartment was very well appointed - the kitchenette had everything I needed to prepare meals and the washing machine and dryer in the room were super convenient for a week-long stay. The room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. Location is also convenient - a short walk to the waterfront and into the CBD, with the added convenience of an airport bus stop at the front door. Also plenty of cafes and restaurants, etc in easy walking distance.
This property exceeded our expectations with the hosts going above and beyond to offer a unique, Tasmanian experience. Lots of complimentary extras included which were a lovely touch - most of which we didn't have time to take advantage of but the thought was appreciated none the less!
Nice to see an accommodation live up to the word "luxury" that gets thrown around alot - no cheap kmart furnishings or supermarket shampoo here. Everything was quality.
Modern, unpretentious, and fuss-free hotel. Great location (just a short walk to the main city areas). Comfortable-sized room with a great view of the mountain. Reception staff were super helpful and friendly. Cleaning staff were very careful and we came back to a clean and tidy room each day. Just a really easy and comfortable stay. No complaints; if I come back to visit Hobart, this will be the first hotel I look into again. :)
This apartment hotel was closely situated to the Hobart waterfront in walking distance to that, the many cafes, restaurants, bars and the CBD. The room was a good size with everything you need, including a kitchenette area, good sized comfy bed, washing machine and available parking (for $10 per night).
We were met at reception and the staff were very friendly and personable - always great at the start of a holiday.
Brilliant location, outstanding value for money. John was very accommodating. Casual and friendly. Perfect place from which to explore Hobart and surrounds. The Family Room with private bathroom was perfect for our family of 5. Highly recommend if you are looking for a place to stay within easy walking distance of the city, docks, Salamanca, Battery Point et cetera and want to avoid big-hotel price tags.
Great location in the heart of CBD walking ditance to lovely restaurants, pubs, Salamanca market and waterfront. It was great to stay in accomodation with a fantastic vibe and not your stock standard hotel/airbnb feel. Owner was extremely accomodating, letting us leave our bags early, helping
with car park and allowing us to keep baggage in building until well after checkout. Very lovely to deal with.
The apartment was good for self catering, very large and modern. We didn't realise that it was right next to the main restaurant area in Hobart, which made it easy to walk along and decide where to eat. The secure parking was worth the small extra fee. To walk into the CBD and waterfront was maybe 20 minutes, or a 3 minute drive. The local supermarket was a short walk.
For a hotel as cheap as this, I wasn't expecting much beyond a place to sleep. I was surprised to find it just as warm and cosy than the description, if not more so; the proprietor was a lovely lady keen for a chat and a good laugh. The breakfast was just the basics but all I needed and in a lovely dining room. This will be my place next time I visit Hobart.
The location with views to kunanyi/Mount Wellington and of the Derwent River were sublime and so close to everything we needed, as was the ferry from Bellerive to Hobart City which was within easy walking distance and adjacent to the Waterfront Hotel - their steaks are delicious! Our host Emily was wonderful and this property is highly recommended.
The apartment had everything we needed, as we came by plane, and limited to what we could bring. Everything was there, even a bottle of wine on the table when we walked in. The fridge had food for breakfasts, and lots of snack food, bread, cheese, milk etc. The view from the front door/dining table was perfect, looking over Hobart and the Casino.
Great location and easy walk into Hobart CBD, Salamanca and Constitution Dock ie. 25 minutes. Large room and same with bathroom. Very spacious. Plenty of eateries at your door step from the hotel, Noodle Box and even MacDonalds. Coles and Woollies virtually across the road.
The apartment was centrally located in Hobart and we could walk to any of the nearby attractions. Exceptionally clean and spacious just what we wanted for our stay. Recommend apartments rather than room so you can be more self contained and not on top of other travelers.
Crown hotel is located in the heart of Hobart CBD. Hotel facilities are very nice. Service was also great which is not offered by many other hotels in Australia, there is beautiful open deck where u can chill and enjoy fee drinks. Overall great experience
Great value for Hobart. Comfortable rooms within walking distance (14 min) to Salamanca. Lots of food outlets and Woolies nearby. Kitchen facilities were very handy. Free parking and fast wifi. All in all, I would recommend the apartments.
Welcoming staff at a great hotel opposite the Hobart waterfront. Our attractive heritage room had a beautiful harbour view and was clean and comfortable. Lovely restaurant with a good menu featuring local Tasmanian foods and wines.
Fantastic location to explore Hobart & Tasmania with the family. Very comfortable & clean accomodation which we would certainly book again if visiting Hobart.
