Orta San Giulio is a little hidden gem in the North of Italy. I booked a bit by coincidence and I was very positively surprised. The old center is a very nice place to stroll around and the Piazza Motta is a great place to enjoy one of the terraces.

It is a lovey attractive lake with a very pretty island accessible by ferries from all sound the lakeside villages. San Giuliano is quite beautiful but is a victim of its success because it is difficult to access having to park some way out and walk and is of course very touristy. There are lots of narrow streets and boutiques and some super restaurants. A romantic place. The Venus restaurant was excellent right by the ferry port and the perfect setting for a cocktail and sumptuous meal.

Wow! What an unexpected surprise!
Orta San Giulio is a stunning little lake-side town, full of character, natural beauty and Italian charm. There is tons to do, including boat rides, water sports, private beaches, walks etc. and just enough restaurants to keep you entertained with fabulous food.

Beautiful little town in the Italian lakes.
Beautiful little town in the Italian lakes. The town is perfect for a relaxed break. There is opportunity for watersports, restaurants and bars as well as swimming in the lake and hiking in the hills and mountains nearby.
You cannot park in the centre of town, so be aware that you will need to walk luggage down to your hotel if you are staying in the centre. We got the train in from Milan, which was very easy and a much cheaper option.

I enjoyed walking around the lake, it was very relaxing.
I enjoyed walking around the lake, it was very relaxing. The lake water was clean and clear with some ducks always swimming on the lake.
The boat ride from Orta San Giulio to Isola San Giulio was short, but there is no social distancing in the boat (I would have avoided it next time).
Sacro Monte di Orta is a must-go, if you enjoy some walking on natural path and also seeing some chapels. Magnificient view from the top to see Isola San Giulio.

Everything. It is a lovely family run hotel with the attention to detail amazing and nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was great with homemade and locally grown produce; rooms were pleasant and clean; staff were welcoming and friendly; restaurant good value for money and food delicious with amazing views over Lake Orta. Would have loved to stay for longer. On the final day we had an early start, so the receptionist offered to organise for breakfast to be left in the bedroom fridge for us, which was much appreciated.
The apartment has been beautifully remodeled to include the charm of the original build, but with a respectful, modern touch. The color choices, the lighting, and the appliances all were very well thought out. The beds were extremely comfortable. The apartment is just above the local square, with a wonderful view of Isola San Giulio. The doors leading out to the balcony offer enough sound proofing that the activity on the square in the mornings was not bothersome.
Large hotel room in the perfect location! Close to restaurants, shops, and the ferry pick/up area. Breakfast was included, and the staff provided a take-away breakfast option on our last day since we had to check out before breakfast began at 8 am. The hotel staff communicated in advance the restrictions for entering the ZTL to load/unload bags as well as local parking information which we found very helpful. Overall a great 2-night stay!
The location in the main piazza of Orta San Giulio was fantastic. Our little balcony overlooked the piazza and the lake.
The room was very spacious with a comfortable bed. Very unique having an enormous shower in the room rather than the bathroom.
The breakfast was a bonus, and had a large variety of fresh foods.
We would recommend this hotel to our friends.
Nothing went well. We were switched from our original booking due to mechanical problems at the site. Then sent to another Piccolo site (Saint Catherines. This was totally charmless and a at a car's ride to the city centre. The room was complete devoid of any charm. The was no hot water, the room was cold and there were no blankets. Very Un
The hotel was very well located, right in the centre of San Giulian di Orta, so once you work out that the hotel is not accessible by car and that you need to use the nearby car park (10EUR/day), you're right in the thick of it.
Locanda di Orta is very clean, nicely decorated and annexed on to a Michelin star restaurant.
Where do I start... The rooms were glorious with beautiful antique furniture, the grounds were beautiful and historical, and the hosts have created a magical atmosphere here which feels like it's taken out of a movie. If you don't stay here while you're in Italy, the loss is truly yours, we will definitely be returning!
Best place I have ever stayed in my life. The location is absolutely amazing! Literally a few steps from the lake with private access. Even though the weather didn't help us at all it was worth it. The bathroom is elegant and spacious (very rare when it comes to Italy).
The location was unbelievable, outstanding. The view and all the area exceeded all expectations. The lake, the town square, Isola San Giulio and Sacro Monte are a perfect summary of Italian beaty. All the people there are nice and kind...
Service standard and elegance were perfection. Every effort has been made to provide a beautiful historic building with modern conveniences. The town of Orta San Giulio is magical.
The hotel is in the best location in Orta. Our room was very small but hat a window on the lake side. The at the reception the personnel is very friendly.
