It's easy to get to by car. We were on our way to Switzerland and wanted a halfway stop, so we spent an afternoon exploring Trier. Since we had our own car, the location, which is a few km from the historical center, was not a problem. It was in a quiet part of town, so perfect for us to get some rest and hit the road again the next morning.
