Why did I wait so long to visit? A true surprise. Not as tourist-geared as Ubud/Bali. Authentic, catering to local domestic travellers, yet with a world class heritage attraction. Friendly locals, though the touts selling souvenirs did get annoying.

I returned to see Borobodur after 31 years.
I returned to see Borobodur after 31 years. It was as impressive as it was the last time. Everything around the temple is much better organized and channeled through the officials.
Still an amazing thing to do - I would recommend to read up on Borobodur before your visit to better understand all the stories behind it and its place in the Javanese and South East Asian history.

The information given by the guide is good and interesting, despite the fact that I am a Buddhist, there is much to learn from this trip. The thousand years old structure is just awesome but I must stress that anyone who wants to visit must do a little "home work" by reading up about Candi Borobudur , otherwise you might not catch some of the meaning behind the Candi and Buddhism. The Candi is fragile due to thousands of visitors and I urge everyone to visit with care and respect.

Borobudur temple is always so grand to look at and enjoyable in early morning or late afternoon. The history within the walls are just mesmerizing to look at.
After 9 am until around 3pm and on clear day, the sun gets too hot.
Having hats or umbrellas and plenty of water and sunscreen might help. But they won't stop the swarming sellers, before the entrance and after the exit, coming at you. So just be firm and polite and keep on walking if you do not want to buy anything from them. But if you do want to buy some souvenirs, you could bargain to a reasonable price.
I suggest to have a walk to the entrance stairs of the temple and don't forget to wear your comfortable walking shoes too.
This time around we took delman or horse carriage for around 5 minutes ride (less than 10 mins ride for sure) to the entrance stairs of the temple and, if not wrong, it cost around AUD20.
They also provide other services like train cars for a fee (can't remember how much), but I think it is better to hire them when you finished touring the temple and when your legs are too tired or when it's just too hot. Unless you want to explore the other facilities around (on the way to the exit) like checking out their museums and theatre.
You are not allowed to bring food or snacks into the temple complex (water is allowed). They will keep them for you to collect at the exit. So make sure you have enough food before going in.
We've never been to their restaurant/hotel in the complex, because there are plenty of choices of food just outside the complex.
For getting around outside the complex, in general, there are too many cars and motorbikes around the area, so you may want to keep walking on whatever pedestrian path available.
Cash is still preferable in the food chains and stalls outside the temple complex

Ofcourse its one of the things to see when your travels take you close to it. But it is a tourist trap. You can go in from 8.00 in the morning (not earlier anymore, like before you could go for sunrise, that is not possible anymore). You have to take a guided tour if you want to go up. The guide tells a lot about the history and is well trained. The costs are 500.000 rupiah pp. if you only walk around at the bottom it’s 350.000 rupiah. Before you leave the park you are guided through a fairly large market with touristy souvenirs.

The temple of Borobudur needs no review, it stands on his own.
New visiting rules (on 11/04/2023). Closed on monday. Reception opens on 06.30, but only for the parc. At 08.00 you can buy a ticket to go on the temple, and waiting till 09.00. Then they formed little groups of 15-20 people to go on the temple with a guide ! Visit lasts about one hour.
The whole resort is excellent, catering for a small number of guests in highly luxurious villas.
The resort has very friendly staff members throughout but I want to give special recognition to the whole team in the Patio restaurant, both the experienced staff members and those in training who provided excellent service: professional, warm and responsive to our requests.
Also special credit to the cleaning and ground staff who keep the rooms and the outside spaces immaculate.
Highly recommended.
Nice traditional looking villa w. all the modern comforts. A bathroom the size of your average hotel room. 3 x 7 m private pool on a immaculately gardened yard walled in from three sides and with a great view of the Menorah hills over the pool resulting in complete privacy.
All the staff was extremely attentive and the service impeccable. The Patio restaurant is great and has a great view of the Borobudur temple as do some of the villas. Also, from a western point of view great value for money.
The best thing about this hotel is exceptional service. The staff is very caring, attentive and helpful.
Location is great, the view from the room and from Sinar Hill nearby is breathtaking. It feels like time slows down there. Villa’s interior and exterior is very traditional and has its charm.
The staff helped us to organize all activities: VIP tickets to Borobudur (worth it), yoga, driver to Prambanan etc., provided complimentary transfer to nearby locations.
It was very clean and had all the things a traveller needed, like soap, tooth paste, towels, coffee, tea and a big flask of hot water! It was a very short bike ride from Borobudur! After a tiring visit to Borobudur temple, i was able to have a hot bath and some tea and relax with the TV!
The owner Habiba was very helpful and kind! When my Gojek app did not work she called a taxi for me via Gojek and I paid her the 120K IDR to get to bus station!
The small hotel is only 1km from Borubudur, and situated among paddy field in the village. It is tranquil if the rooms are situated on the inner side. The owner, Mr. Nuri, is very friendly and responsive, and he works also as our guides to biking the village and to the sunrise spot. He seems to know everyone in the villages and friends with everyone, which makes us feel like part of the family. Breakfast is exceptionally tasty!
What a beautiful place! It's a great break from Yogja. We travelled here by scooter for a few days, highly recommended. The staff is super friendly, the surrounding is quiet and the pool area coulnd't be more comfortable. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night (go for the 'big dinner') and that was very good. The room was huge and very luxurious with a comfortable bed.
The hotel is close to the Borobudur at about 5 min walking. For me the main reason to stay here was the closeness to the temple to visit early in the morning. However since the the Borobudur only opens around 8am now, a taxi from Yogyakarta and back is during covid maybe a better option. The pool was great though!
This is one of the best accomodation in our trip in Java. Host are super friendly and kind. Very good breakfast included. Room is very nice, modern, and superclean! But the best is absolutely perfect garden, where you can spend time at the terrace. Hot water all day. It's a few minutes to entrance to Borobudur.
Look like bali in java, and we can walk to candi borobudur. The staff very frendly. And for the first my morning i got late wake up. The Hotel still cook n give my omelette for me. And i stay for 2 night with so wonderfull day because i can stay with my pet, he got the big bed only for him.
Quiet, close to Borobudur. Very Javanese hospitality. The additional jajanan pasar for breakfast is special to us. Breakfast looking out to the Borobudur temple is what we're looking for in the morning. Bed is quiet comfortable, bathroom big enough with hot water, water pressure ok.
the best location, only 10 minutes walking to the Borobudur temple. the staff are supper friendly and helpful. The room was clean. the breakfast was excellent! we really enjoyed staying the Omah and highly recommend to everyone.
Excellent hotel close to the Borobudur temple. Staff are super friendly and helpful, we received the best possible service and enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the pleasant restaurant. Great value for money!
Our family realy had a great time during our stay here... our main purpose to visit Candi Borobudur, and the location and services from the hotel made our trip completed beautifully. Thank you
Very nice and kind staff, we even get our breakfast at 11 am after visiting Borobudur....
Perfect location near the temple.
And the swimming pool after the visit in the hot sun .....super.
Fine homestay very close (walking distance) to the Borobudur. Very helpful host who assisted us with anything we needed. Fine Indonesian breakfast. We were happy.
