Hoi An is a nice city with old typical houses and a well maintained urban ensemble, with many old houses and temples to visit. It’s also nice that many streets are car and motorbike free (only bicycle). However it became a victim of its success, attracting many tourists and having many shops and restaurants and bars, and too many lights and noise in some areas at night.
So for me two nights would have been enough, however it is nice to combine with the local beach. It must also be said that food is very good and there are very good restaurants.

A beautiful place with a lot of heritage and beauty.
A beautiful place with a lot of heritage and beauty. Friendly riverside night life and great beaches only 15 mins away from the old town. The most amazing stage show with 500 participants a must. Simply stunning. Called Hoi An History. I belive the Acrobat show is amazing at a different location. We missed that sadly. Needed at least 4 or 5 days at Hoi An. 2 not enough.

Hoi An is a lovely, quieter area with a river and beach and historic town. Tbh, I found everything too hard to navigate as there were so many of everything, it’s hard to know which clothes shop, leather goods, lanterns, experiences are the best. I also found the prices higher than I expected but appreciate they’re making the items in front of your eyes.
Food-wise, there’s something for everyone, and Grab will deliver it if you don’t feel like braving the heat. We did the silk village, which was a short and seaweed tour of silk making, walked the old town, and did a bike tour to the neighbouring island which was fabulous. Next time we’ll stay there longer and shorten the time in Danang. I’d also select a hotel right in the ancient town, to duck down and back up multiple times a day.
Personally, we found the river boat lanterns lovely but meh. Instead, our favourite was a bicycle guided tour thru the countryside. Grabs are plentiful for both food and rides.

Lovely historical town with great atmosphere on the water's edge. A great place to visit despite the mix of traditional culture with an emphasis on tourists (which can take the edge off the experience of being there. Typically prices seem to be inflated for tourists as prices just out of the old town are cheaper.). Tailoring/dress making is big and if you have time you can have something created for you. The beach seems to be only a short distance away but unfortunately our stay was not long enough to check it out.

My wife and I have both visited Hoi An, albeit separately, around 10-13 years ago. It was both our favorite place in Vietnam. It has got a bit busier since then but is still a great destination for relaxing.
There are so many places to go out to eat and drink in the market area. Getting around is easy with walking or taxi's.

Loved An Bang beach. Lovely sand, and great for swimming.
Loved An Bang beach. Lovely sand, and great for swimming.
Lots of good, cheap accommodation.
Lots of lovely restaurants - especially good for veggies!
No high rise buildings. Nice local feel/vibe.
One of the nicest places we have stayed in our 3 month SE Asia trip.
We loved staying at Fireworks Homestay, without a doubt the best place we have stayed yet! The family who lives there are so nice and really helpful. When we arrived they gave us recommendations on where to eat, and what to see while being in Hoi An. Fireworks Homestay is located close to everything in Hoi An, both the beach and the Ancient old town. They have bicycles you can borrow for free, and a delicious cheap breakfast. Overall a great place to stay with the best host while visiting Hoi An.
Would definitely stay here again!
This was by far one of my favourite accommodations in Vietnam. The hosts were wonderful and went above and beyond to help me, including receiving a package for me and helping me get to An Bang beach when no grabs or taxis were available. The pool and the plants on the ground floor were gorgeous, the breakfast was great, and the room had a good shower/bath separate from the rest of the bathroom area. A little further from the central old town area than other hotels, but made for a nice walk and made it a little quieter at night.
We've just spent a wonderful week here, and it's become one of our favorite hotels in Vietnam. The family rooms are so spacious and beautiful with comfortable beds. Everything was spotless clean and the whole staff seemed to be in good spirit and always helpful.
We truly appreciated the free bicycles and the pool area was relaxing and clean.
There was a lovely breakfast buffet with good coffee.
The location was perfect for us, very close to the old town and not far from An Bang beach. We were really sad to leave!
My family and I spent 11 days at Square Villa and we wished we could have stayed longer. The rooms were spacious, all the furniture was new and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was always super friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcomed. The whole place is kept spotless clean, linen and towels are new and the location is great with the old town a short walk away. We especially enjoyed having the free bicycles. It was the best place we've stayed in Vietnam so far!
The room was larger than expected. The room was very modern, comfortable, and had everything I needed. THEhotel was a 5 minute walk from the night market, and the Japanese section of town. Breakfast options were all very tasty, and the staff were friendly and helpful, with great tips on what to do in Hoi An. Great location, best place I stayed while I was travelling in Vietnam. I recommend that Volar de Faifo should always be a option when visiting Hoi An.
Breakfast and the service with it have to be experienced to be believed! Some of the best vietnamese food we ate on our trip, served by the ever smiling and delightful father of the family. Our room and bed were large and comfortable. The Village Homestay is in a great location, just a couple of minutes walk to the old town, but away from the craziness!
It rained almost the whole 4 days we were in Hoi An, but staying here really brightened up our stay.
A very beautiful Vietnamese boutique hotel, the room are clean and comfort, the staff were super friendly and nice, the breakfast are superb, many selection and very delicious, they served very good Vietnam coffee too. The location are perfect, just opposite Hoi An old town and just next to the night market and the very happening bar and restaurant area, everything just in walking distance. We enjoyed our stay here very much!
Pomelo garden was the best hôtel I've stayed in vietnam. The rooms are Big, clean and so confortable. The tropical garden is Amazing with a great pool. Located in a quiet area 15 mn from old Town by bike. You Can have free bikes at the hôtel or rent a motorbike with them or grab. The owners were so nice they made me feel like family. They will do anything to answer your needs. Definitely the highlight of my trip in Vietnam.
Location was a bit out of town but taxis are very cheap. Quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. Not far from beach or Hoi An Old Town (both about 10 mins in taxi). Lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Bathroom had lovely decor. Grounds of hotel are stunning and has a nice pool. The staff were fantastic and the laundry service was brilliant. Breakfast was made to order and very tasty/quick service.
Hoi An Palmy Villa is one of those little gems. The facilities are great, nice large rooms, very friendly and helpful owners (family) and staff who do anything to please. Nice, big pool. In a great location near Ba Le market so easy going to either Old Town, the beaches or the rice fields. For long staying guests they even provide a free lunch one day for you with traditional Vietnamese meals.
A tastefully decorated villa in a quiet neighborhood (away from the crowds, busy still easy walking distance to the old town). The room was spacious, bright and had an amazing view of the river from almost every corner. The stay was complemented with friendly and helpful hotel staff, that makes sure you have everything you need. Breakfast was nice, with plenty of fruits and great coffee.
The owner of the homestay and her parents are so welcoming and helpful, and their German shepherd is such a gentle giant. My room (the cheapest option) comes with a kitchen area which surprised me. This best part about this homestay is that it is a one-minute walk from Cosy corner, a lovely cafe, and An Bang beach village restaurant (they serve delicious Vietnamese food and Indian food).
Lion King is a lovely little gem of a hotel in a great location - walkable to all the sites and historic old town. Ms Flowers and her husband Robert were wonderful hosts that made us feel like family. They even bought me a birthday cake, as we arrived at their hotel on my birthday. The rooms were clean, efficient, and most importantly COOL with great AC. We were sad to leave!
The hotel is located on a quiet section of town. It takes about 15 minutes walk to the old town. It is small enough that it fines you a cozy feeling. The pool is well maintained and the restaurant serves all kinds of dishes, western and Vietnamese. The staff is very friendly and eager yo talk with the guests. The wifi is good enough to steam movies through Fire Stick.
This is a great property, near the old town with lovely rooms, AC and fans, a pool and courtyard. The staff were fantastic and helped me organize activities, arranged laundry and transport. You can use hotel bicycles to get to the beach and around town. Nice towels and linens and the room was quiet. I had a great balcony with a view over the garden.
Wonderful boutique hotel. Located just a few minutes walk from the center of old town, close to plenty of restaurants, spas, shopping, and night market. Very complete buffet breakfast. Room with river view is a must ! All the staff were courteous and went out of their way to serve us, including Min, Jack and Amber. Highly recommend.
It was in a good location within easy reach of the old town and only 4k from the beach .
Bikes are available free of charge or you can hire scooters for £5 a day .
The hotel is a boutique hotel which gives it character and intimacy.
Breakfast is good and the staff are super helpful .
Big shout out to M’s Sue 👊
Beautiful, small hotel very conveniently located near old town, and close enough to go to the beach by bike or taxi.
Very clean, comfortable beds, great shower and lovely setting.
Received many excellent recommendations for restaurants, and yours which were arranged by the lovely owners.
Nice hotel with good breakfast close to the beach. It is a 10 minute drive to Hoi An old town. Mia is very friendly. Her family has a tailor shop and they make beautifull clothes within a day for a fair price. Mia also has a spa with great service! Would definitely recommend this place!
The food here is amazing - best I had in Vietnam. Free shuttle bus to beach and old town very useful. Hotel is peaceful, comfortable and clean. Pool and bar are lovey. Staff are polite and helpful. I would stay here again and again!
