Fès is a kaleidoscope of colours, smells and sensations, and its intricate urban design is an allegory of its own identity. Live up to the pace of this ancient Babel, and go the whole hog immerging yourself into its 1001 Nights atmosphere. Check out the Booking.com hotel deals in fascinating Fès and enjoy!
Commonly spelled Fez, this city was Morocco’s capital during Middle Ages. The city was originally composed of two separate settlements located along the banks of the Jawhar River. Madinat Fas was founded in 789 by Idris I, while Al-'Aliya was founded by his son Idris II. Both towns grew autonomously until the Almoravids unified them in 1070 under the name ‘Fas’. The city is still considered a beacon of the Islamic civilisation, due to its ancient ‘madrasas’ Islamic colleges.
The Old Town or ‘medina’ has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing one of the best preserved historic centres in the world. The famous ‘riads’ or small traditional hotels are located in the medina, which is also called Fes Al-Bali.
The city can be reached through Fès Saïss Airport, or from the airports in Casablanca and Rabat via railway or bus connection. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Fez New Town or a historic ‘riad’ in the medina, don’t miss Booking.com’s wide offering!
I travel frequently. Fez, and Morocco in general, is underwhelming. While several day trips are possible, the main attraction in Fez is the Medina. It is interesting to walk through it but after a few hours I had enough. You cannot enter most attractions (Mosques, University) so you're left wandering the Medina. The shops are diverse in terms of merchandise but they are overly aggressive and often rude.

I lived in Fes for five years, so I will be biased.
I lived in Fes for five years, so I will be biased. I love this city and it has a special place in my heart. I learned Arabic here over 20 years ago, I came back some years later and worked as an English teacher and Arabic to English translator, and my recent visit was a visit for the peace of my soul.
If you are going to visit with a family, I would recommend an apartment in the new city (la Ville Nouvelle), especially the two that I stayed in. The old city (the Medina) is not easy to navigate with a stroller and the facilities in the riyads there are not family friendly (unless you are willing to pay top dollar), to say the least. Staying in the Medina means roughing it, so if you're young and single, or a young couple with no children, maybe you can hack it.
For food, I highly recommend Jawhara Cafe next to the American Language Centre (Rue Ahmed Hiba) for breakfast (great harsha, malawi, coffee, tea etc.) and Restaurant Florence on Rue Hassan II for lunch or dinner; they make amazing couscous, tagine, and every great Moroccan dish at great prices.

What an amazing city - filled all the senses .. such warm hospitality, amazing food and history abounds - the artisans and craftsmanship of the local people was astounding - I loved every minute during my stay from the getting lost in the Medina's alley's to exploring the historic city - My tour guide Hassan was magnificent - so spoiled by all his knowledge and ability to read his customers.... We so enjoyed all his recommendations and more importantly - all the knowledge he shared with us - Please make sure you allocate enough time in this beautiful city and enjoy the hidden Roads and their restaurants! The food and spices are simply amazing!

Fez is good just for a day and it’s good to go to chefchouien from there for a day trip. Be careful of the people who take you to the tanneries and local outlets where they overcharge for stuff. The Medina has lots of shops having cheaper stuff of similar quality so better to check in different places before buying. Food is very good everywhere. Taxis are cheap. Place is very safe.

just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time.
just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time. If you really want to see then 1 day would be plenty but for me even this duration might be too long. In this city you always need to be on your toes or else you are an easy target for people who wants to just squeze money out of you
The Riad Fes Aicha is perfectly situated, just a minute away from Bab Rcif, the entrance to the souks, tanneries etc.
Riad Fes Aicha is beautifully traditional, a little boutique hotel hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the souks nearby.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Our host was fabulous: helpful and kind, anything we asked for he just made happen.
The traditional breakfast was a piece of art too, delicious and plenty.
We definitely recommend Riad Fes Aicha and we’ll definitely come back.
Riad Idrissy was my most favourite Riad in my entire trip travelling around Morocco. The Riad is absolutely beautiful. It is beautifully maintained and in a great part of the medina. The staff were wonderful and friendly and made our stay even better. The food at the restaurant was amazing and the cooks were lovely. I would highly recommend this riad and will stay here for a much longer time if I visit Fes again. I absolutely loved the place, and it made our stay in Fes memorable.
Amazing riad — the building itself is beautiful but it was the staff that made it the best riad in Fes, highly recommend. Shoutout to Medhi for bringing us lots of tea, helping us with a currency exchange, and calling us a taxi. Soukayna was wonderful, very kind and hardworking, a pleasure to talk to. She gave us a great crash course on the cultural and educational system in Morocco and helped figure out if we bargained well in the medina (which we did not). 10/10 would book again
We had an incredible stay at Riad Soultana! The location is perfect – nestled in a safe area of the Medina. The terrace is a hidden gem with breathtaking views. Our room was a dream – spacious, beautifully decorated, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfast was also nice. Special shoutout to Aziza – the star of our stay! She went above and beyond, helping us organize our time in Fes and throughout Morocco. Grateful for the fantastic experience!
This hotel was absolutely perfect and this regards to the hotel itself and the staff. The room was comfortable and bathroom super clean - and trust me, this is not that common!
Fatima was ready to prepare breakfast even at 3 a.m., nothing being an issue at all. This was the first time someone was so helpful to me in Morocco and I have already been in Morocco 3 times.
Thanks a lot for this and I am sure to pick this hotel if I come to Fes again!
Beautifully done decor inside and outside the rooms. It is a very comfortable stay with AC, hot water. Location is pretty great too with the Dar being right outside the medina. The best part is the staff. We had the pleasure of meeting Aziz, Abdel, and Munir who always pointed us in the right direction with any questions about fes and the medina. Breakfast had a variety and hosts go above and beyond to accomodate diet restrictions when possible.
Really great location in the old Medina in Fes in a restored historic home. Breakfast was very nice and dinner was good as well! Violeta was friendly and interesting to talk to. She even packed us snacks because we had to leave early and could t stay for breakfast. Very hospitable. She also arranged for a tour guide of the Medina. Her name was Fatima and she was fabulous. The best guided tour we had in Morocco! Ask for her.
Located in the hustle and bustle of the Fez Medina, you’re right in the middle of the action and get to experience the full Medina lifestyle. Karim is an amazing owner/host, no request is too small or hard for him to help out with, he’ll help out with booking tours and bus tickets and will also give top tips on how to best deal and navigate some of the city’s tourist traps. An amazing stay for the price!
The staff Mohamed and Hassan were so lovely and welcoming. They did everything they could to make sure we had everything we needed. They even helped us find our mother when we lost her in the medina.
The building was also very beautiful and spotless, the cleanest stay we've had in Morocco. When we return to Fes we will stay here again for sure.
The location of the Riad is perfect for visiting the medina of Fes. It's a hidden away treasure and the comfort inside is immense. The courtyard was really fresh, while the staff are super friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful and perhaps the highlight was the super abundant breakfast. A wonderful way to be introduced to Morocco!
It is in the middle of the Medina, so you can visit all sides of the Medina with out too much walking. The pool was refreshing. The two gentlemen and lady working there were very kind and they even cooked us lamb chops. They were delicious. It was the best meal we had in all of Morocco! I will definitely come back here!
The location is one of the best. So close to and with easy access to the medina of Fez. And to have the quiet and feel of your own slice of paradise at that location is quite unique. The nearby parking(s) are conveniently close and the low cost make them worthwhile. We also enjoyed the very good breakfast. Well done.
Location is the best: only three minutes walk to Bab Boujloud, main access to the medina of Fez. You will never get lost. Enjoying one or two nights in the Moroccan Riad is a worthy experience. The host is a very friendly and helpful. The local welcoming mint tea is impressed, Breakfast is good. Highly recommended.
very comfortable hotel, large clean room. nice outdoor terrace. location was a comfortable walk to the medina (25mins) or to the centre of Fes.
good place to stay to explore if you like walking.
makes a very pleasant change from staying in riads at the end of our Morocco visit.
They gave us a nice room upgrade.
Beautiful Riad in the heart of the Fes Medina. Our room was wonderfully decorated in the Moroccan style.
The breakfast on the terrace was the best we had while in Morocco. Truly superb!
Othman was a superb host! He seemed to work 24hrs a day!! Always gave us good advice and was very available for suggestions.
The best part of Fes surprisingly was this hotel. We just loved hanging out on the terrace and watching the scene and the lights and sounds of the city. Sunset from the terrace here is magical.
We ate our meals on the terrace. The Moroccan salad has been the best that we had in all of Morocco.
The location is ideal to discover the Fes Medina. The hotel is an old house which was well restored to reflect the ancient style. All the staff were very helpful. Ideal for someone who loves to travel back into the past to get a feel for how people lived hundreds of years ago.
Actually to be honest the best experience I had in my life in Moroccow and that place I stay with Nabil he's so kind. He give us lot of information about Fes Medina also he show us best places to eat I really hope to come back again and I can recommend that place for everyone
This riad was the best one we stayed at while in Morocco. The rooms were huge, the breakfast was amazing, and the service was exceptional. Our experience with this Riad went above and beyond expectations. We will stay here again when we’re back in Fes.
This was our best stay in morocco, due to the kind personnel and the amazing riad design. This riad is most like a hotel stay, very professional and you don’t feel like you are intruding in someones home, like in other riads. The roofterrace is amazing
