The hotel is beautifully situated on Lake Ashi, right beside Hakone Shrine and the Tori gate out in the lake. The hotel runs a shuttle bus from the nearby transpot hub on the banks of the lake, where buses to and from Odawara as well as the sightseeing cruise ships can be boarded. The hotel was also extremely clean and well presented. Our room was spacious and comfortable.

It’s pretty close to the main train station. The (restaurant) staff was pleasant. We enjoyed the onsite onsen. The town shut down early, so it was convenient having the Box Burger right there.
Pro-tip - Five minutes away is a cute shrine “Hien Waterfall” that should be visited.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit. I recommend 2-3 days to really experience and explore. I got the Hakone free pass and made my way around the loop over 2 days and the scenery was breathtaking, an extra day would have allowed deeper relaxation and extra exploring.
Definitely explore the shrines around the lake and try and get to an Onsen while you are there. I did find it tricky to find tattoo cover patches, so possibly worth looking into before travelling to Hakone if you need to cover up.

Beautiful nature and atmosphere.
Beautiful nature and atmosphere. The trip to Lake Ashimoto was lovely and the scenery impressive. The highlight of our stay in Hakone was dipping in the local onsens, we loved the experience and the feeling of relaxation after a bath. We ate at different local restaurants, mostly found via map apps, which made great food at reasonable prices. We used the Hakone Pass to get around using trains, cable cars and the ropeway, all very convenient and easy to use. We could have used a couple extra days to visit some of the attractions in the area, that we did not have enough time to enjoy.

One of the highlights of our trip to Japan was visiting Hakone. We would wholeheartedly recommend staying in Gora and doing the loop up to the mountain and then on the sightseeing boat. The Hakone Free-Pass offers great value for money.

The hakone free pass is excellent and a must for all visitors. There is an abundance of sites and tourist offerings about the area. We did the railways the open air museum the boat and ropeway and achieved all of this within about 24 hours. It is a beautiful destination and a must from the hustle and bustle of the city life
We chose this hotel for the private onsen in the room which was great ! The hotel also has its own outdoor and indoor onsens. Location was ideal for hiking - we got the ship across Lake Ashi and did a walk up Mount Mikuni and the surrounding mountains. You can get great views of Mount Fuji from the lake (which is a 10 min walk down from the hotel) if the weather is clear. To get here we got a train to Odawara and then a bus (ask tourist information in the station) which took about an hour, and there's a bus stop right outside the hotel.
Amazing service and the location next to the ropeway allows for easy transportation around hakone and access to lake ashinoko. Much better than traveling around by bus which can get stuck in traffic. Meals and service were top notch and the private Onsens were fantastic. They have several you can reserve which direct views of the forest. We reserved the rooftop Onsen with panoramic views of the mountain valley and it was unforgettable. We also had a private Onsen on the deck of our room which was wonderful to wake up and soak in.
LOVED Staying at this hotel - it far exceeded my family’s expectations
From the moment that we arrived, we were treated as valued guests
We are looking forward to staying again at this hotel.
Highlights that we enjoyed:
the architecture of the buildings, the preservation efforts during the recent restoration; hotel museum, gardens, tea and apple pie on the veranda, the onsen, flawless French dinner and wine pairing in the “Fujiya Dining Room” and a most spectacular breakfast in the morning
Mt Fuji peaking through the clouds was seen through the hotel room window, with the hotel located in a quiet forest spot, it's on the list for a must visit next time we stay in Hakone. From the generous variety at the buffet, to the well equipped onsen bathhouse, it was truly a wonderful stay. The futon beds were easy to arrange ourselves, super warm even on a cold night. They've even got fairy lights out in the garden at night with great photo locations.
I love the tranquillity of the surroundings - located mid of Mt Hakone, away from main road, little crowd of guests staying in nearby guesthouses and especially the view of Mt Fuji and Lake Ashi at the window. There was a day I met the staff who was there to urgently repair the onsen - he was very polite and tries his best to answer questions. The room and beds are clean, doesn't feel dated and no odd smells (that is if the tatami scent don't count).
Our fee includes breakfast and dinner. Both were great with a lot of choices and varieties to choose from. Onsen is out of the world good. I had one of the best nights' sleep in Japan that night after enjoying the indoor and outdoor Onsen. Our room has a great view of the lake and the pirate ship coming by. The traditional Japanese clothes that the hotel offered to walk around the hotel was a nice touch. Parents really enjoyed the stay there.
Decent accommodation in traditional Japanese ryokan style. Four private onsens, two indoor and two outdoor that are across the road and up the street. Outdoor onsens were very nice, and it was pretty relaxed to get a time slot to use it. The owner also let us store our luggage there for a few hours after we checked out while we visited Lake Ashi.
Great little restaurant across the street that was very affordable. Around 1000y pp.
Everything was perfect. We were able to drop off our luggage in the morning before embarking on the Hakone Free Pass loop. Once we checked-in, a wonderful dinner was served by the ryokan's friendly staff. We were also fortunate enough to have booked the Sakura room where we had a private bath. The public onsens were also fantastic and very relaxing. Overall, a very comfortable stay and a reasonable price!
Hotel Lalaca offers a very classic Ryokan experience. The staff are very friendly and it's a very peaceful spot in the mountains with private onsen as well as some other amenities (massage chairs/table tennis). This is more of a retreat hotel as you've a walk to anything else in the area.
The kaiseki breakfast and dinner were outstanding in terms of quality and value, and the onsen were excellent.
Amazing experience at a traditional Japanese hotel. The Onsen were super relaxing and the view was exceptional. The room view was amazing and the beds were super comfortable. It's close to the bus stop so it's easy to visit the main attractions in Hakone and come back. A bunch of restaurants nearby! The breakfast was super delicious and very traditional. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
The onsen facility is nice and you can use both onsen facilities on the main Okada hotel and yu no sato spa which connected to Hakonenomori. We did both dinner and breakfast included plan and it was amazing, would definitely recommend including the meal plan since the hotel is bit far from the main street and most stores close early in Hakone.
The scenery surrounding the hotel was priceless. The calm, surreal and breathtaking view of the lake, which makes up for the distance that the hotel is located from the Hakone town (about 20 mins drive). Onsen was great, food was delicious and the staff were helpful. We (travelling with parents and 2 year-old) love our 2 night stays there!
A secret tipp if you are looking for a traditional Japanese styled hotel in Hakone.
Professional staff with friendly service, yummy Japanese breakfast and dinner with beautiful set up. Above all, the Onsen experience especially the privat slots was just amazing.
P.S. the bus stop is just in front of the hotel.
This is the third stay at Hakone, each hotel has different experiences. I love how this place has a personal house keeper. It was a wonderful surprise.
All dinner and breakfast are excellent. Hotels private onsen was great. Traditional room is a great experience accompanied with lovely meals.
There is a shuttle bus from Hakone-Yumoto Station and from Hotel Okada lobby back to station. Easy access! Shuttle Bus Schedule can be check in their website. Onsen is not crowded because it’s spacious. Dinner & Breakfast Buffet are available only with advance reservation.
The room was very large, in Japanese traditional style, with all you can need. The garden and the onsen of the hotel are AMAZING. stunning. These just worth the price of the room, and the travel to Hakone. I would definitely go back there.
Staying here is a total experience. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and almost as if you were the only guest.
The actual location of the hotel in Hakone is amazing, gorgeous views and onsen experience is amazing.
A cozy stay in a family run hotel very close to the Hakone-Yumoto station.
Staff was very kind and the room was spacious and clean.
The onsen was a great experience.
