Aviero is beautiful. The town centre has amazing Portuguese style buildings, the streeets are very clean, it is all very walkable and the gondola trips are very reasonably priced and leave from the canal in the central area. These tours are in multiple languages, so suitable for everyone. The local restaurants have all types of great food at very reasonable prices and local supermarkets and shops are really good value. People are friendly and helpful. Loved our stay there.

Lots of tourists in Aveiro at the weekend, many on the moliceiro boat trips along the canal. Lovely way to sightsee if weather is good - it was quite hot before Easter but with a cooling breeze. The multi-lingual guide on the moliceiro gave detailed and interesting information about Aveiro, especially the Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings as well as the stunning modern architecture. Also the fishing history of Aveiro was explained well.
Lovely walks alongside the canal from MELIA hotel, quiet and very little traffic until you arrive in the centre. On Sundays many market stalls selling numerous antiques along both sides of canal.
Back street walks are full of interesting surprises, traditional tiled buildings, sculptures, cafes, restaurants and bars. Very easy to walk around and explore or cycle on numerous dedicated cycle paths. Also excellent S Joana museum and art gallery in centre.
Good place for a long weekend or even a week if you also want to get out of centre to the beaches.

Aveiro is a charming city with fantastic food and friendly people.
We are moving there, that is how much we like it. It is much cleaner and quieter than Porto (where we have lived for the past 3 years.)
There is lots to do, shopping, eating, sites, boat rides, museums, to name a few.
There are lovely cities nearby as well. Ovar, Costa Nova, Águeda and Ílhavo. As well as Coimbra.
It has a great central location 2 hrs from Lisbon and less than an hour from Porto.

Aveiro is a beautiful city overall, my favourite place is the Ria of Aveiro wit his colourful boats and the Barra's beach with his colorful wood-houses as well.
I ate in a restaurant near the shopping centre Forum. I've rent a car from Lisbon to get around so I didn't need a public transport but there's a bicycle in the city to rent to get around which is very useful.
You have to go to a restaurant on time between 12-15 otherwise it won't be easy to find a place that open till late for lunch.
I like traditional restaurants around the city instead of the fast food ones. In Portugal the food is amazing!

I regret not being able to explore the city thoroughly during my visit. Nonetheless, I had a delightful evening at a local pub, which turned out to be a truly enjoyable experience. The people in the city are remarkably warm and friendly, adding to the overall positive impression of my brief stay.

Seeing pictures and videos of Aveiro was excepting more then what I saw. Those who say Aveiro is Portugal's Venice they must not been in Venice. For us it was waste of time to stay overnight. Maybe it was due to construction that was going around the city center. I was very disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend staying overnight. Maybe quick stop on your way.
All the facilities are top notch. The owner is so helpful and sweet. The dinner (€15) was incredible. Breakfast (€5) was also wonderful. The room (hostel portion) was super clean, brand new, great bathroom and bedding. I cant say enough wonderful things about this hostel...and there are also private rooms. There is an inground pool and umbrella table and chairs to hang out. It has been the best hostel i have stayed at as a Camino Portugal pellingrino. You should definitely stay here.
We needed a hotel near the bus station in Aveiro and Veneza Hotel fit the bill perfectly within walking distance. The hotel is located in a quiet area of town yet within walking distance of the Old City, shopping and restaurants. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room and bed were very comfortable and the bathroom spotless. Breakfast in the morning was very generous and filling. Be sure to go on a Gondola ride in the Old City - so much fun !
This was one of our favorite stays in our 2 week visit to Portugal. The location is stellar, easy access to public parking if you have a rental car, and I hope you do, because a short drive away are some amazing beach towns. The layout of the apartment is interesting and cool. The beds, like just about everywhere we've stayed here, are on the firm side. I've slept well, but some of our crew like softer beds. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
Absolutely fabulous apartment, very well located and beautifully laid out! With a scenic view over the canal - one could hear the occassional hooting as the Moliceiros went by below. Such a lovely ambiance. Conveniently located across the way from the lovely Forum Aveiro shopping centre. Would love to stay at Avenida 60 again! Highly recommended.
Good location, being a short walk from the station and the centre of town. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially in providing suggestions for dinner. Thank you. The room was clean and breakfast was adequate with hot and cold choices. We would certainly recommend the hotel and would stay there again when visiting Aveiro.
Location of the hotel right in the centre of Aveiro could not be better. Very central with lots of restaurants nearby. All the staff we dealt with, were polite and extremely nice. Hotel very clean, apart from the mould in our shower. Very confortable lounge, with free water provided. Public areas very nice. Overall, good.
The Sailing Apartment is ideally located, close to the center of Aveiro but with free parking options close by. It took us 10min to walk to the old city center, and there is a mini-market close to the apartment. Rui was very friendly and gave very good recommendations, although we came late due to traffic.
Amazing value for money and excellent location to explore the town but also other nearby towns: Agueda & Costa Nova were amazing! We had one of the best meals in Portugal just a 5 min walk from this hotel and the reception staff helped us to book a boat ride which was cute but we could have skipped this.
The owners are doing a wonderful job restoring Aveiro's oldest hotel. My room was cozy, but felt roomy with the 14' high ceilings. And the location, directly across the street from the beautiful tiled old train station couldn't be better. Plus the owners were very friendly and helpful.
A wonderful house and garden, absolutely unique and cosy. Very friendly hosts. Beautiful breakfast. Great location in a quiet neighbourhood very close to the lagoon. We loved the bicycle rides to Aveiro (enchanting city center) and to the lagoon (beautiful bike paths through nature).
Comfortable and clean, friendly environment and helpful people, the property has everything you need and require including kitchen appliances and stuff for cooking. Beautiful garden and area, very quiet place. Close to Rio Aveiro and Aveiro center just 5-10 minutes drive by car.
The apartment is very well located in the centre of Aveiro, the view for the canal can be enjoyed from the living room and from one of the bedrooms. Very comfortable, well equipped and clean. Would have been worth it to stay for a little longer.
The location was excellent, right in the center of it all! Our stay was very comfortable, we stayed in the room with a small kitchenette. It was very spacious and clean. Elina was so kind and helpful! We really enjoyed our stay in aveiro :)
The facility was very beautiful. The hostess was beyond wonderful. The breakfast was excellent.
It is a beautiful old house that is wonderfully maintained.
After staying in 9 previous places in Portugal, this was our favorite.
quiet it had a nice breakfast excellent location if you are going to stop overnight from aveiro and leave to other Portugal places. it’s far from the city. you must have a car
Perfect stay in a very nice room. It is big enough and really clean. Staff was really nice. The breakfast was very good. The room is closed to the city center of Aveiro.
