Santa Cruz Huatulco is essentially a sun/heat/pool/beach location.
Due to its increasing popularity as a tourist destination, prices have escalated in the last 4 years. In fact quite sustainably. Hotel, food and boat excursion prices are similar to those in most Canadian cities. Taxi fares are quite reasonable.
If you are looking for cultural activities (museums, galleries, concerts, etc.), this is not a good location.
Be prepared for earthquakes.

Found some of the eating establishments were very expensive for the type of food offerings. It was very hard to find value for your monies. The local food carts were great and great prices.
Loved Nico’s cafe for a great sandwich. Trifty’s had great ice cream.
The local flea market was good, only found the jewellery stores outrageously expensive. They really insulted my intelligence. Needless to say I did not buy anything there. I usually pick up something, and was hugely disappointed. Mind you the jewelry styles were very dated unlike Cabo or Playa del Carmen.

Great location for access to the rest of Huatulco.
Great location for access to the rest of Huatulco. It's a main beach so it's crowded and the cruise ships dock here so the water is murky - no snorkeling. Santa Cruz has very few stores - no grocery store, no fresh fruit/vegetable stores - so you have to take a cab to Chedraui or into La Crucecita.

This place suits Canadian/American tourists in couple or family. So many Canadian tourists, and it seemed like the city had also made changes to accommodate the Canadian culture better. Not a very nice city and not very walkable. Taxi situation is great though, unionized and standardized rates. Feels very safe.

We enjoyed Huatulco and La Crucecita but you can give the little beach town of Santa Cruz a miss. It is a seedy little town that has completely caved to the cruise ships and disrespectful tourists. Not sure what the beachside restaurants are all about. They all seem to use the same kitchen!!! And the obnoxious behavior of the staff was so offensive, as if we are stupid and illiterate. We didn’t have this experience anywhere else in the state of Oaxaca during our month long trip.

Santa Cruz Huatulco is very similar to where I lived (Ixtapa) except it's a lot bigger. I only spent one night there and left the next morning. From what I saw it was very pretty, the buildings are nicely painted, no garbage on the street, the people I met were all friendly. I didn't check out the beach or go anywhere so I have no idea what the night life is like, it's a tourist resort town, fun and sun.

We spent 12 days at Villas Fasol with my husband. The hotel is like a treasure at a beautiful hidden spot. We had enough privacy but if we needed help, there was always someone nearby. The room was spacious and clean with an exceptional view to the ocean. Fridge, ceiling fan, a/c, safe provided. Freshly prepared, ample breakfast served every morning. There are two private beaches available and always kept clean, never crowded. It's perfect for relaxing and being alone. Highly recommend!
The hotel manager is wonderful. She is a great communicator, and tries to get the best transport and pricing for wherever you want to go. She definitely made our stay better by accommodating our check in and check out requests. All of the staff there are friendly and accommodating. There are excellent restaurants within walking distance. One of our favourites “Dons” only a block away. Beds are very comfortable, rooms with fridge is nice. The area is safe.
The location is very convenient to get around the area. The beach in front, although not great for swimming, can at least be used for a quick dip. Short walk to supermarket. 15 minute walk to downtown La Crucecita. Easy taxi to other beaches near by.
Our plunge pool on the lower level was great. 4 feet deep. Kept very clean. The kids loved it. The restaurants in the hotel are mostly very good/great, which helps when you don't feel like going anywhere.
Location is very central and easy to walk to the grocery store, markets and the main square. Breakfast is basic but good, fruit, eggs, beans. Hotel is nice and the rooms are huge. They are outfitted with a fridge, including freezer, sink and microwave. There is a kitchen table and the space if big. The staff are great and very friendly. They have a water fountain you can refill your water bottles at which was great.
For the price there were many things most travelers would find pleasing. Internet worked good, heat & air-conditioning, hot water in shower, adequate power outlets to charge phone/computers, modern bathroom, appeared reasonably clean, easily within walking distance of Zocalo downtown Crucecita. At this price point many hotels in Oaxaca lack many of these features.
Location is quiet and within a few blocks of zocalo/central park; very close to several good restaurants. The hotel met our criteria - clean, comfortable bed, cold air, and within our budget. It's not lux. The staff was honest, friendly, and most importantly, nothing was stolen from our room. We spent our days on the beaches and exploring the city.
The hotel is authentic and the staff working at the reception was very understanding (especially Ulise, that helped me with the check-in and information)
I payed the breakfast at the reception and I had a wonderful stay.
The hotel is very close to the beach and to Santa Cruz centre.
The breakfast is rich.
The location very central to most everything and taxis are very inexpensive here.
The hotel is a simple Mexican hotel, beds are comfy and rooms are very clean. Staff was most helpful and most friendly.
The owner has dogs that may bark on occasion, this was not a problem for us. Remember you are in Mexico.
Stayed here for one week over Christmas, we had one of the rooms with a private pool overlooking the larger pool area. Great property, right on the beach. Room was clean and staff was excellent. Very relaxing environment, would definitely come back.
As a 3 stars hotel I was happy to find it clean and comfortable for my stay.
The water pressure was excellent and the water was hot.
The area is closed to the centre and ADO station.
The breakfast was 120pesos, and it was ok, nothing special.
Nice clean facilities with comfortable beds. Great staff. Seems very safe with a front gate and guard 24/7. Rooms come with mini fridge, microwave, and coffee-maker, which most other hotels in the area don't have.
The breakfast was fine. The facility is beautiful and easy to drive to. Gorgeous view of the ocean and love the design of the hotel. Two beautiful pools.
