Perfect location on the waterfront.
Huge room (I got the family one, with a cot in and everything).
Situated within 32 km of Samaria Gorge and 45 km of Botanical Park & Gardens of Crete, To Spiti mas features rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Sougia.

Place spotless, great cakes and wine!
Wanda is a great host and looks after the apartments well. We liked being a few km from the coast , great views, quiet and a cooling breeze. If you get a taxi to the top of the Agia Irini gorge you can walk back direct to Spiti Mas. Not too far away (about 30 metres) is a lovely restaurant serving proper Cretan food with a smile.
Offering a traditional restaurant and a sun terrace, the family-run Porofarago is located in Sougia, just 30 metres from the entrance to Agia Eirini Gorge. Free WiFi access is available in all areas.

Location beautiful place. Lovely owner , attentive service good food . Great place to walk from . We walked from Omalos to Sougia over two days.
Aris is a family-run 3-star hotel that rests on the edge of the old town of Paleochora, just a 5- minute walk from the centre and the beaches.

Paleachora is a great town and Hotel Aris is a very good place to stay. Well positioned with everything you need. The breakfast was exceptional. Every day there was a huge selection of fresh food with different Cretan specialities. The hotel owners are very friendly. Our room was lovely - decorative but simple. There is a beautiful garden with hammocks and different seating areas. A really terrific place.

A very scenic drive from Chania, especially via the Omalas route, (slightly longer but worth it). The town is tiny. 200 or so residents, but still manages some excellent restaurants. There is good walking, particularly the popular trail - one and half hours - westwards to the archaeological site at Lissos. Alternatively, one can arrange a boat to Lissos, for a few euros, either one way or return. At 0830 a longer boat ride can be arranged eastwards along the scenic south coast. Evening beach walks at Sougia are also nice. For a more strenuous trek one might wish to visit the Agia Irini Gorge. The entrance is signposted directly next to the road 4.5km north of Sougia, with parking. It is far less crowned than neighbouring Samaria. Some 7km long it takes about three hours to walk.

It was very quiet as it is November, so end of the tourist season, but nice. The weather is still perfectly fine to go to the beach, there are still some restaurants and bars open. It's a nice little quiet place to go hike or stay on the beach without the crowds of Chania or Heraklion.

Sougia is a small village at the mouth of Agia Irini gorge, approximately 1.5hrs drive from Chania airport (we rented a car) It has a couple of mini markets and a couple of gift shops but the main street hosts mainly tavernas. The beach is a pebble beach with crystal clear water. You have access to bus, ferry and taxi services allowing you to explore the surrounding area. We have stayed in Sougia 4 times and we love the tranquility and beautiful mountainscape.

Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city...
Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city hustle. Quite the feeling of hippie lifestyle, with relaxed attitude towards nudists. The beach has both areas for people who enjoy to swim with swimwear, and without. There are several tents around the far end of the beach, and the atmosphere in bars and restaurants is relaxed.
Great place for walkers as well as those who just want to enjoy the peace and quiet. Daily ferry service, and one bus service.
I stayed in Lissos rooms which was lovely and quiet, and ate in Livikon which had excellent grilled king prawns, and the fabulous lamb and beans dish

What a place.
What a place. Only one hour walk (or 7 minute taxi ride costing only 10 euro) to reach Sougia from the monastery estate guesthouse.
Locals were friendly and took the time to chat to you about your travel plans / share local knowledge. The food in every taverna we ate in was high quality fresh local produce and the prices very reasonable. Could pass an entire day on the sunloungers, listening to the sea then going for some Greek food, then watching sunset. Also Lissos is nearby - we didn't manage to visit but we took a boat trip to palaiochora beach which was lovely. Didn't beat Sougia though!

Strategically a great place for the Samaria and Irini Gorges...
Strategically a great place for the Samaria and Irini Gorges. We self catered so didn’t go into town other than to the mini markets where you can buy everything. The ferry to Agia Roumelli and Paelochora go from here too.
To Spiti mas is a completely renovated traditional house in a quiet village in a perfect location for people who are looking for authentic places close to nature.
The food in the area is great and locally sourced. Very conveniently just across the street is a very nice family taverna and only 10 min driving away is Sougia from where you can take shuttle boats to other beaches, or buses to the Samaria and Agia Irini gorges.
The hosts are very kind and helpful, and we were overall very happy with our choice.
Great little apartment in Sougia. Very convenient to all the local hiking trails, private parking, not far from the restaurants but not in the middle of things so pretty quiet at night. Wifi was out in the whole area for part of our stay and was mediocre when it was working but way out there it's not unexpected. Very comfortable and clean! I recommend buying groceries in Chania if you're going to cook while you're there.
Simple but clean and comfortable accommodation in Sougia.
The hosts are very friendly. Quiet and good location, close to beaches, shops and restaurants.
The kitchenette in our room was well equipped to make your own breakfast. There is also a shared kitchen if you booked a room with fridge only.
We would definitely recommend to other travelers and also stay again next time.
Galini was the first hotel as one enters Sougia by car, and we were able to check in immediately to the rooms we had booked. Quiet and well-kept hotel. Comfortable rooms. Helpful property manager. While it may be the furthest hotel from the beach, Sougia is small and the walk to the water is 5 minutes. Can't go wrong here. Easy parking.
Conveniently located but quiet. A very small well run family owned hotel a block off the beach. Helene also owns the small convenience store next door, great for ice, wine or what have you. We stayed in the top floor apartment with the loft bedroom. The apartment has everything you’ll need for a couple of nights or a couple of weeks.
The owner is very friendly which makes a huge difference when travelling alone! She was happy to keep my bag for a day while I did a round walk as well which my knees are grateful for. Room was spacious and comfortable and air conditioning easy to use. It's looking out to sea and close to everything in Sougia.
The hotel cooperates with the local restaurant across the street, which is not only offering a free welcome drink, but also serves typical cretian food with a special twist... try it out and don't be suprised if you find yourself skipping the sea views of the other restaurants to enjoy their daily specials.
Quiet and comfortable apartment with a great view to the surrounding mountains. Hosts are friendly and helpful. Perfect location to wind down und start exploring Sougia and the nearby nature attractions. Good and functional equipment for self-catering.
Fell in love with the stray cats wandering around.
Location was key to catching ferry to and from Sameria Gorge. By staying in Sougia we didn't have to arrive early or more importantly drive back in the dark after the hike. Although it was the end of the season we received excellent service and enjoyed our balconies room during the full moon.
Great location and friendly staff. Sougia is a brilliant small town with a stunning beach and interesting attractions a short trip away (such as lassos ruins). Nice sized rooms that are very clean, the taverna is also great for a drink or some food. would highly recommend.
The Syia Hotel is a lovely place to stay while visiting Sougia. Marcos went out of his way to make certain that we had everything we needed, and his hospitality couldn’t have been better! The studio is spacious, clean and very quietly located just off the beaten track.
lovely studio and warm welcoming people. very well appointed with everything we needed. we were about 150 metres from the sea and Sougia has great places to eat amd drink. a very chilled and relaxed place to stay. Parking on site
we will stay in these studios again
The host was extremely helpful and friendly. The private courtyard was lovely to sit in with complimentary wine after the journey to Sougia. The hotel was on the edge of town so rather quiet and peaceful. It was only a few minutes stroll to the town and the sea.
Very cute, friendly and welcoming small hotel. Very clean and lovely rooms. We felt comfortable from the first moment.Irini in the reception is very lovely and welcoming and she helps with all things you need to organise.Thank you so much for everything!
Gorgeous quaint hotel in the middle of nowhere! Great place to relax and unwind. Perfect for people looking to hike and visit that part of Crete. The staff were lovely and the food was delicious. We loved our stay and can’t wait to go back!

This hotel really gives an experience like nowhere else, combined with the staff and then location you get a perfect rejuvenation.
It was a clean, comfortable room, in easy walking distance of everywhere in Sougia. Jason was always kind and more than helpful. We would stay there again.
