Kotor is a beautiful walled town, very clean and full of delightful shops, cafes and restaurants. Very busy when the numerous cruise ships tip their passengers off to take a tour. The church bells ring out giving a wonderful atmosphere. Cats are in many areas with a charity-funded neutering campaign ensuring lots are well fed and cared for.

We were in Kotor for adventure and loved the trails and mountains.
The fortress is interesting but you need to be fit to manage the climbing.
The Old Town is interesting and easy to navigate around.
A lot of restaurants however most are serving very similar menus, wine lists are much the same and the local drinks options are really good both in quality and price.

It's great for a relaxing, time in nature or just general down time. It's got everything from water to mountains to trails depending on your interest and the time of the year.
Personally, it was great for some relaxing, down-time. I visited in shoulder season, where it was too cold to get into the water but perfect in terms of (less) crowds and ease to get around.
Kotor Old Town is simply charming, to trek through, to walk around or simply to enjoy a quiet evening with great food. It's lovely place to visit any time of day.
I would highly recommend a visit to Kotorska Suvenirnica in the Old Town. It's got a unique mix of souvenirs. Just ask for Marko he's an Encyclopedia of information and just a delight to talk to. We spent so long in there just talking about all the different souvenirs from cat magnets to olive oil, Christian saints, world maps and Murano jewellery.
The area in general is serene. A walk by the bay side and a good seafood lunch Konoba Portun restaurant, was the highlight for me. There are a number of lovely places. This was the only one I tried. And I loved it.
Other things to know:
The city is known for its unique cats and its love for cats.
Djir Taxi App is the best way to get a local taxi and get around.
In general, most people are very helpful and friendly. But that's also because they are mindful about hustlers - so best to do your research on prices and cabs.

I would recommend staying at Kotor over Budva.
I would recommend staying at Kotor over Budva. Eventhough we visited at April there were so many people. It was a nice, historical city. One downside is it was quite expensive and there wasn’t enough healty food options. The restaurants were overly crowded and the food was bad for the price we paid. The services was slow but they still took service fees everywhere. If you want to go swimming i would definitely recommend Budva not Kotor.

The city was very quiet and calm.
The city was very quiet and calm. Maybe it was because we went in March. Luckily the weather was very nice. However, I recommend that those who will come by road be prepared for winding roads. It is really difficult to find food outside after 22.00-11.00 in winter.

Kotor, located on the Adriatic coast in Montenegro, is a gem...
Kotor, located on the Adriatic coast in Montenegro, is a gem of a city known for its medieval charm, stunning landscapes, and rich cultural heritage.
Nestled between the Bay of Kotor and towering mountains, the scenery in and around Kotor is nothing short of spectacular. The bay, often compared to a fjord, creates a stunning backdrop for the city. The hike up to the fortress atop the mountain offers panoramic views that are well worth the effort.
Kotor's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's easy to see why. The city is surrounded by well-preserved medieval walls, and its narrow, winding streets are filled with historic buildings, churches, and charming squares. The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon and the Maritime Museum are must-visit landmarks.
The city's waterfront promenade along the Bay of Kotor is a delightful place to take a leisurely stroll. The views of the bay, with mountains rising dramatically from the water, create a picturesque setting. Waterfront cafes and restaurants offer a perfect spot to enjoy the scenery.
Kotor serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding region. Day trips to nearby Perast, known for its charming islets, and the Our Lady of the Rocks church, are highly recommended. Boat tours around the bay provide a different perspective of the stunning landscapes.
We loved our stay about Vila Nautica, we found the location to be exactly what we wanted for our visit, close enough for a taxi to the old town and restaurants (€2.50 pre midnight).
Vila Nautica is In the village of Dabrota which is very close to walk there is places to swim and eat as well.
Lovely view from our balcony, room clean and spacious. The pool was a real hi-light for us
We hired a car which I would reccomend if visiting Montenegro in general- plenty of parking reserved at the Vila.
This is one of the best hotels that i ever stayed. It offered this balance in nature and was properly designed to offer isolation and privacy while staying there. The swimming pool was great, with the view of the Bay of Kotor! Also, one could walk inside the hotel area with Plum/Fig/Grape trees around and with great views of Kotor and the bay! The Sunset that I saw there while relaxing and enjoying in the Balcony was one of the best moments! :)
The location is perfect! It is inside the Old Town and it was very easy to find. The price was very low comparing the hotels nearby. Worth the price. The staff was also very helpful. They offered us a boat tour of the Blue Cave. And the tour guide picked us up from the hotel. The road for the fortress starts from the same street where the apartment is located, the staff informed us about it as well.
Enjoyed the location in the center of the old town of Kotor, it allowed you to immediately immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the vacation. The apartment is well renovated and has a nice view. There is also a small kitchen with dishwasher. Jaroslav, the owner of the apartments with his wife are very helpful people. They told us all the important information about Montenegro for tourists.
Very nice, cosy apartment with wonderful views of the Bay of Kotor. Well equiped with a large balcony and a pool to the front of the block. The location is within walking distance of several excellent restaurants on the waterfront and a small supermarket. Boka Heights is located 4.5km from Kotor old town if you wish to visit so a taxi (€7 -€8.50) is necessary or you don't have a car.
I stayed in Montenegro B&B in Kotor and also in Budva, both are placed in great location inside old town. I like the hostels very much, atmosphere there is really great, owners are very nice and helpful - they are also running travel agency, so they can offer trips and transfers in very reasonable prices. I recommended Montenegro B&B a lot!
Perfect location. Beautiful one bedroom apartment for the three of us. It was light, airy and comfortable. We had a gorgeous view looking up to the fort which I imagine is quite rare in old town Kotor. The setting is stunning. Our host was very helpful and friendly. In fact the people of Montenegro were really nice.
Location. Right in old town, close to everything. Air conditioner worked perfectly. The breakfast was very nice as well. Frigobar to put drinks. We could pay online (most of the places I saw in Montenegro accepted cash only). The bed and pillow were comfortable. In June it was not very noisy, even for the location.
excellent staff, luxury and a high level of service in beautiful surroundings. Indeed a very charming little hotel! ☀️⭐️☀️
Montenegro is such a beautiful country and all the people we met (with no exception!) SO kind.
The team at Libertas are doing a great job 👏
Everything, food, staff, rooms, location
Simply Perfection. Best hotel in Kotor, staff are the nicest kindest, amazing hospitality… highly recommended if you would like to stay in old town and enjoy piazza and the culture of old town of Kotor
The location was very good and just across the small bridge to enter the Old Town of Kotor.
Two great supermarkets, a wonderful bakery and amazing restaurants also just steps away. The views from the apartment were also beyond expectations!
Very nice apartment, modern decor, comfortable beds, about a 15/20 minute walk from the old town of Kotor, taxi to the old town from the apartment is roughly 2/3 euros, onsite parking which is great for Montenegro
A beautiful hotel in the centre of the Old Town. Our room was gorgeous and very spacious. The breakfast outside each morning was lovely, with good coffee and a good variety of food. Staff were very friendly!
Nice new apartment with a view to the bay of Kotor. Spacious and clean. Very friendly and helpful host. Good location, at walking distance to Kotor Old Town and the beach. Excellent wifi.
Hotel is located in the heart of old town. So location is great. Also breakfast iş sufficieant. You can warm/cool your room with A/C. If i travel to Kotor i will choose the same place.
Great location in old town. Only a short walk to get a taxi to go to Port Montenegro. About 15 euros. Any time day or night. Small convenience store for water ect 5 minute walk
Very friendly staff and a lovely , quiet location by the bay. A fifteen minute drive from the hotel to Kotor old town. A very Comfortable room and overall a great stay.
