A cultural eye-opener. Lots to see and do - but most major attractions are spread far from one another. Expect to take a couple full days touring Kandy and the surrounding areas. Two of my strongest recommendations: the British Was Cemetery. The caretaker has tended the graveyard for decades and knows each detail about each soul laid to rest. This town is best served with affordable eateries and several modes of transportation. Cooler weather compared to the Sri Lankan capital city, Colombo.

We have been to Kandy a number of times before, this time it was just a break in the train journey. It is a big varied city with lots to do and see. You can enjoy the view over Kandy from both the balcony and the roof terrace. There is even a bus that goes down and up the hill, if you don't want to rely on TukTuks. The breakfast we got was always delicious and we woke up with the view of the monkeys in the trees. Best stay in Sri Lanka :)
